Yes, the staff works hard. I know multiple as well as a large percentage of them are attorneys. I have also worked on a few senatorial campaigns / been a financial backer.

Most politicians are not powerful. The money behind them is. A level of money that none of us will ever see more than likely.
The great recession was from 2007-2009. 2010-2011 things were back on the upswing. So, yes if you have 2 degrees as summa cum laude from a top university and couldn’t find a better job than bartending for years following - you aren’t too bright in the ways of the world.
