The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

That depends on the subject, the level being taught, and a great many other factors. In the case of your run-of-the-mill elementary school teacher, a good start is to instill a baseline of reverence and gratitude for the men and women who put themselves in harm’s way so we do not have to.

Without that, we’ve got nothing.

The problem right now is that old glory is associated with Trumpers, the right wing, etc in pop culture. That symbol that we should all hold dearly was taken as the symbol of the right, and as such was consequently seen as representing right wing values… not american values. I know a number of people that feel uncomfortable flying american flags at their homes on the 4th, veterans day, memorial day, etc because they and many others perceive it as a symbol of the jingoistic right wing in todays culture.

I would bet that what you see the flag symbolizing would be agreed to as good and respectable by the large majority of woke folks… the difference is that they dont see the flag as symbolizing those values anymore. IMO its a “don’t worship the idol” type of thing. The values the object symbolizes are important, not necessarily the object itself (though the commonly accepted meanings of some symbols are so powerful they override any other alternative meanings e.g. swastika, confederate flag). I think its important to recognize, respect, and empathize with what the flag symbolizes to other folks, especially those that saw combat where the flag has a much deeper (and inarguably “good”) meaning than most of us can fully understand. But at the same time, i think you should also understand that the flag is a symbol that means different things to different people and “disrespecting” the flag is not necessarily disrespecting what you see the flag symbolizing and what it means to you.

That said, what an idiot that teacher is. Useless contrarianism mixed with social media attention whore. Ugh.

Thank you for explaining this. You’ve given a very good example of what constitutes an inversion of the concepts I believe are worth taking the time for public educators to explain to children.

No, she isn’t. And she won’t be a teacher for long if she thinks bringing her personal idiocy into a classroom is appropriate. Most parents don’t want politics pushed on their kids. Most kids don’t want politics pushed on them. She is also filming a video inside the school which is probably a no no. She is there to work, not make videos for tik tok.

At the very least, professionalism and respect for the job. Unfortunately, in teacher education programs, teachers are essentially told to be activists as well as educators.

The problem is that the teacher needs to grow up.

So because you disagree with it means it shouldn’t be done? What about parents who think the opposite of you. Doesn’t that kinda make you a hypocrite.

Even if an agenda is being pushed. Does a kid not have a mind of their own?

Disagree with forcing one viewpoint on kids? You can’t push religion on kids, for example, so it’s not an absurd position to have.

What does this even mean? Regardless, it’s irrelevant. School does not operate by majority rule. If you have one parent who is not Christian, he can have anything that’s Christmas themed shut down. Or, the school has to recognize all religious holidays, even if only one student follows it.

The opposite.

No. And it’s one reason why we have laws against statutory rape and, those laws are even stricter with teachers. Why? Because teachers are in positions of authority. Even if a student is past the age of consent, a teacher may not have a sexual relationship with the student.

I could only get about halfway through the video before I’d had more than enough of her shit. If I had a kid in that school I’d be raising hell and/or pulling them to go someplace else. I’m sure my kid has teachers who’s politics I don’t agree with. Fine. Keep it to your self and do your job.

Yk what you have a point. So you’re saying school should be neutral rather than biased.

If so, then I agree.

Teach kids how to think, not what to think. The teacher in the video is an English teacher. She obviously didn’t learn what the point of analyzing literature is. But these are the morons who major in English these days. They actually hate English literature, old dead white men, and are lazy.

You can’t blame the right for this. The flag means the same thing it always did and right wingers still use it in roughly the same way they always did. It’s the left that started burning it, kneeling for it, and trampling it.

Why wouldn’t I be? Seems like vaccines have a pretty strong track record of being a net positive. I’m not pro polio.

I live where I live. It’s not a bubble.

This is the stupid thread I posted something I found stupid. As everyone else does. And even the anti vaxx people should see how stupid using that as an argument is.

You clearly didn’t read my post and where my number came from although it was clearly stated.

I mean at this point did you even attempt to read my post before replying to it? Who brought up any of this? It wasn’t me.

It’s odd that you would type so much in a “reply” to me when it’s clear that you aren’t replying to what I said. Seems a little strange to ignore my post and attack me with a bunch of shit I didn’t even write and then somehow have the balls to call me a troll.

The left doesn’t have a monopoly on disrespecting the flag, or US flag code…
or situational ethics.

Everyone knows that everything you read on the internet is true:

I need a prescription from a vet to get ivermectin for my dog to prevent heartworm. You can buy in bulk from farm supply stores without a script but you need to know how to dose correctly for your livestock.

Dog owners who want to bypass a vet, and probably save some money, can also buy in bulk but they also need to know how to dose correctly. This information is easily found but for people, I don’t know if that info is available. Anyway, if idiots buy ivermectin in bulk and get sick or even die, they will make it illegal to buy without a vet’s prescription which will cost those who really need it, like farmers or dog owners, more money. We saw this with ephedrine.

Maybe there’s hope after all.

When I first saw the story, I figured she’d be in the East Bay, or an urban SF or LA school. But Newport? She may as well have tried that shit in the heart of Texas - the end product would have been the same.

Nine replies - guess I wound you guys up. Did not mean to troll, not on either side of the argument other than wanting you all to realize that it is your decision and should not be foisted upon you by your government.

Your body, your choice.

What?

Oh dear lord.

I don’t know about NZ, but in the US, that would be a lawsuit against the supermarket. Many woke policies are simply based on fear of getting sued.
