The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

Ah, Ross Clark. The lone remaining embattled Libertarian Thatcherite. Never mind him.

Asian is probably the most confusing classification in the US, even more than hispanic/latino or whatever it’s called now (latinx?).

Lebanese are Asians. Syrians are Asians. So are Pashtuns in Afghanistan and all Indians. Dark skinned Gulf Arabs, despite living in Asia would be classified as white in the US, unlike European Spaniards.

Should the label ā€œasianā€ be considered racist? I’m asking this in the old common sense way, not new wokeish.

I don’t think so. It’s more about pragmatism. Different cultures, languages, ethnicities, religions, skin color and all that.

I think this would apply to first generation immigrants. Probably won’t matter to the next. I don’t know; don’t really care. No plans of ever moving to the West. I’m a tropical boy. 21 degrees celsius is cold to me lol.

In the US, Hispanic is designated as a cultural distinction, not a race. Source Census

@idaho Good job on Range Master. Dumb clowns

I really think that the people, ā€œlatinoā€ or otherwise, who came up with latinx don’t speak Spanish well, if at all. They certainly don’t know grammar and the difference between a noun and adjective.

Can we have gender based language in this woke era?

Spanish is transphobic because it forces children to describe the world through imposed binary genders.

On a serious note, I’ve recently talked to a woke Argentinian person (blue hair shaved on one side, obese…the whole package) and realized that she (?) used a made up neutral gender. First I thought it was my Castilian vs. Rioplatense Spanish but actually it was a wooden effort at ā€œfeminist Spanishā€. Apparently is not that uncommon there among upper-middle class wokes.

No. Everyone must learn Hungarian. It has no gender - there’s no difference between he/she his/hers etc. and is therefore the perfect language. And Tagalog as well if I recall correctly.

I’m just glad it went as well as it did considering the context of ā€œIdiot with gun in one hand, cell phone in the otherā€.

I was really expecting to see something else.

Can we shake on that, er nevermind.

You’re smarter than that - you know these people want to obfuscate and control language … just look at what Hirono did to ā€œsexual preferenceā€ … now that’s apparently an offensive term…

I’m fuckin’ triggered

I look forward to your online tirade…

Oh, that’s was it. Age and prolonged drama, for me, are negatively correlated it would seem.

That is probably true but I also believe they either can’t speak Spanish (forget about read and write it) or speak Spanglish, at best. The fact that Spanish speakers cannot pronounce Latinx (because it’s unpronounceable) says something about their linguistic skills. Besides, grammatically speaking, Latinos (as a noun) is inclusive. It refers to males, females and presumably those with blue hair and nose rings.

Are you questioning the linguistic skills of Alexandria Ocassio Cortez? I know she can pronounce it and I’m sure (she thinks) she’s as, if not more, knowledgeable of linguistics as Chomsky
