When i was waiting tables back in the day i was taught to just always use the term “folks”. It’s warm and polite, non gender/age specific, and doesnt seem like you are trying hard to be non-specific.

And as an engineer, i appreciate efficiency in language. Gotta value-engineer EVERYTHING.

I read through this whole lengthy article and found it quite interesting. The gist appears that you can only be for the advancement of POC if you fall lock step into current rhetoric.
