The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

To even make this a news story. Even if, and it is if, those 100 were all black, it would be an insignificant percentage of black employees. I wouldn’t be shocked if they were mostly white.

“We are now more than a month and a half into witnessing nightly violence on our streets,” he tweeted. “Portland continues to be used as a staging ground for violence night after night. This is causing unprecedented harm to our communities, livelihoods, and Portlanders continue to fear for their safety. My main concern is this: that the continuing violence will lead to further injuries or even deaths.”

Really Mr. Mayor? How about stop wringing your hands on Twitter and make some decisions based on the welfare of the people who put your spineless ass in office? You city is in lawless chaos and all you can do is whine? You have a state police force and a national guard, where is your Governor? Hiding behind twitter?. What about the people who actually have to work in Portland, don’t you think its hard enough to cope with a pandemic and still try to work everyday?

A month and a half of violence. Inexcusable. Your citizens, who are trying to live “normal” lives during this time, deserve to work and live in safety.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

It’s a shame. I love Portland. It’s where I grew up, but I won’t go near it unless I have to fly out.

I agree. So back to my original question: Where is the Governor in this mess? Is anyone in charge in Oregon?

What a statement, sums up everything. At least you can fly out, think of how many cannot afford to leave, stuck in some Marxist chaos, trying to work and feed a family. Damn.

If you look up Kate Brown, the governor, things will make sense.

It’s like a Mexican standoff, can you say that anymore?, between two people with their backs to each other.

First Bi-Sexual Governor and doesn’t actually live in the capitol city (neither did her predecessor) and Is terrified of addressing anything directly so defers to Ken-Doll. Portland would vote for Trump if there was a (D) at the end of his name. They don’t care who it is. The more interesting person to look up is Kitzhaber and his girlfriend. Imagine a sitting governor having serious legal allegations, still be elected governor, then resign one month later. The state of Portland didn’t care and outvoted the rest of the state. Another reason I’m an advocate of the EC on a state level. I’m not a fan of a single city controlling a very economically and socially diverse state.

Mr. Mayor? Ms. Brown? wake up little doggies, its time to do something.

slingshot

I own three wrist rockets, with proper ammunition, you get about 250 FPS. Our hero thug shot a medic in the chest.

Mr Mayor? Ms. Brown, wake up little doggies, your police are under attack, exhausted from weeks of rioting and need you to lead. Oh, I forget, their just police, who cares if they are injured or killed, as long as I stay in office and kiss the thugs ass.

“When people ask me ‘What does a world where we defund the police look like?’, I tell them it looks like a suburb.”

I think she described a world without violent criminals.

It’s definitely a good question. State by state, people make their own bed, and isn’t that the way its supposed to be?

I mean we’ve been hearing for like for ever “Don’t Tread On Me” and “Molon Labe” talk, and how people want the government out of their wallets and out of their lives. Laissez-faire government, right?

So here’s where the ethical/philosophical rubber meets the road. People really need to decide what level and type of government intervention they want in their lives, then take the action required to make it happen. And we really need to be brutally fucking honest about it.

Do people want freedom? Liberty? Justice? Or do they just want to be careless?

It seems to me that more and more, they just want to be careless. Not looking out for themselves or each other, but since we all pay taxes we have a big boogie man to blame when things go wrong- our various bureaucracies. It’s a Police problem! Or it’s a Legal/Justice system problem. Its an entrenched systematic institutional (racist, sexist, what-ever) problem!

No. It’s an Us problem. We want law and order until someone tells us what to do. We want the guys in black tactical gear to come in and kick someone else’s ass. We want our money’s worth without paying for it. :joy:

We want scapegoats.

She’s an idiot on many levels. Also, suburban forces are (generally) funded very well in addition to not having large numbers of violent criminals.

Yep. People want “freedom for me, not for thee.” Very few people accept the rights of others.

*BERKELEY, Calif. — After a nine-hour meeting lasting into the early morning hours, the city of Berkeley announced Wednesday it would move forward with a proposal to remove police from traffic enforcement duties.

Now the city will work towards forming a separate traffic department that will use unarmed city workers to conduct traffic stops, according to the Associated Press. Nothing will change immediately, but the vote calls on the city manager to order a “community engagement process” that will pursue the creation of the new department.

6 days after graduating from the academy, my FTO pulled over a vehicle for doing 40 MPH over the speed limit. After the stop, the driver got out of the vehicle and opened fire, killing my FTO. You don’t forget shit like that. So, the city of Berkeley wants unarmed city workers to enforce traffic code. Brilliant.

The East Bay Times called it a “landmark decision,” with experts saying the plan to separate police from traffic is likely the first of its kind.

A “landmark decision” ? for who? so, members of the council can wear their “woke” t-shirts with pride?

“For far too long public safety has been equated with more police,” said Mayor Jesse Arreguin at the meeting.

Yeah, less police means more public safety, brilliant concept there.

Other changes approved by the city council Wednesday include aiming to reduce the police budget by 50%; removing officers from homeless outreach and services and mental health and crisis management; and establishing a community safety coalition committee, according to the Times.

Yeah, also a sound decision, especially the establishing a " community safety coalition committer" What the hell is that? Who is in charge? What authority do they have?

The Berkeley Police Department said it does not comment on council decisions. However, police unions for Los Angeles, San Jose and San Francisco released a joint statement Tuesday ahead of the council’s approval, obtained by the Associated Press, on the matter:

“We do not believe that the public wants lax enforcement of those incidents by non-sworn individuals. Traffic stops are some of the most dangerous actions police officers take. What happens when the felon with an illegal gun gets pulled over by the parking police?" the statement read, “Nothing good, we’re sure of that.”

Call the committee members on the radio and say: “got a situation here” He / she has a gun, what do I do? Just unbelievably stupid.

Here is a good example of what can happen:

And as many of my Law Enforcement friends have told me; “domestic” disputes are some of the most deadly.

I wonder if Berkeley is going to send in Social Workers on these calls?

@idaho…it’s Berkeley, for Gods’s sake…

When Tyler, or Austin or Dallas County…or Mobile or Birmingham or Charlotte or Crooklyn start calling for this nonsense, maybe I’ll have some concern. But Berkeley? Not even a little…

The stench from the bench is making me clench.

Yes, domestics are very dangerous, especially, in my state. If you are called to the scene and visual evidence exists an altercation took place ( visual bruises, minor cuts, broken lamps or whatever) you are required by law to arrest one or both parties. Most citizens know this, so when you show up they are already primed to fight. A no win situation.

Yes, I know its Berkeley, I know their reputation for liberalism. However, Portland and Seattle are considering some of the same changes. Yesterday, the head of the NY State Trooper Association called on the Governor to pull them out of NYC because they do not feel they have the backing from the NYC Mayor. No surprise there.

It’s like a lot of things wrong in our government, people who are making or screaming for policy changes have no experience in what they are screaming to change. So, they are going to get people hurt or killed.

It Texas ever goes this way, its time to “head for the hills”.

No freakin’ DOUBT!

Again…it’s Portlandia and Seattle…!

Probably will call for lightning up a blunt when somebody is stopped for a traffic violation…you know…to “ease” the situation?
