Have you ever actually been to a boy scout meeting? The local one meets at the same time as the girl scouts at the same grade school. It’s mostly mom’s bringing in their sons in my city. I’m not sure where this mythical father son bond exists where women taint things, but it’s not in reality.
I’ll be honest, when I look at a bunch of grown men throwing shit fits over GURLS being allowed into a troop of kids that learn life skills, I don’t think of the girls as being fuckin ridiculous.

Boy scouts are nothing compared to Communist Youth - for 8 to 12 year olds it was awesome. You got to learn all sorts of cool stuff - how to throw a hand grenade properly, how to dig anti-tank ditches, how to shoot from a M48 and the M-1 Garland… Genders were equal, the only difference that the girls had to attend extra courses about rudimentary battlefield medicine.
Of course, at the time you didn’t realize you were being brainwashed by a genocidal ideology and taught to snitch on your parents to the Party.

Most boys and girls for that matter aren’t going to be comfortable talking about a lot of things when in mixed gender company. It’s not so much a matter of what they can’t do, it’s more a matter of what they (the boys) won’t do. It was a safe environment for boys to be boys. To bond with other boys. To deal with boy issues. As far as sexual things go, yes, if you’re out camping or whatever it gives a boy(s) an opportunity to talk with his father(s) about things he wouldn’t likely bring up even at home. Body issues, the whole puberty thing, etc…
I don’t have an issue. I think it’s “stupid” that there’s an all-girls troop in the boy scouts, which is why I posted the link. If the boy scouts want to alienate the group of people that has kept them around for a hundred year that’s on them, but I’m not going to begrudge a life-long scout his anger of an organization selling out to make money and I’m not going to call him a sexist or a pussy just because he’s unhappy about the change.

Gotta say, the number of times I went camping with my dad/uncle/Grandpa and we left the girls at home, none of this came close to coming up.

Were boys not permitted to join? From my sample size of 1, I’d say it’s pretty likely they made their own group due to getting pushback from the boy scouts. The boy scouts in my area certainly have.
