Especially the less in-your-face ones – Emily Procter as Calleigh Duquesne from CSI: Miami gets a LOT of mileage out of her accent, but Kyra Sedgwick as Brenda Johnson on The Closer is waaaaay too over the top.

It is not a sign of ignorance - just noticing the differences. When I go to NYC - I am begged by store owners to talk for them. They get a kick out of it. What’s the big deal? I don’t think they are ignorant to wnat to hear language spoken in a way the rarely hear it.
This is probably the coolest you have ever written–now I am intrigued to hear this so called Texan accent.
BTW, isn’t it interesting that the very center of the country is the most “accent neutral”. Living in MN for the last 6 yrs I have become oblivious to the it’s accent but now my parents make fun of me for the way I overstress my long O’s–as in: “oh, yeah! Don’cha know.” Seriously, is there anything more f’d up than a New England accent?
Ahh the Texan accent. It is important to realize that there is not one accent of Texas. As in most other areas, Texas outdoes itself in the accent department. If one has a decent accent, it is not that hard to determine the general area of Texas they are from.
I don’t really have the time to go into some of the various accents, but know this, never confuse a Texan accent with a “Southern” accent, they are worlds apart.
Oh, you mean those fat, lazy, stupid, poor southern girls? Why don’t you leave all of those to us fat, lazy, stupid, poor southern guys? Oh,you forgot to mention our poor dental hygiene in your previous post.
The best Texan accents for making a tent in my pants are from around Lubbock. Just thinking the words Texas Tech gives me a semi.
Next would be East Texas and then West Texas.
I was born and raised in Lubbock. I thought that all girls looked like that. Imagine my disappointment when my dad got transferred to El Paso. No Texas accent at all in El Paso. I was made fun of to no end.
BUT - green-eyed hispanic chicks are a hotness that has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated.

Are you sure the green eyes are a requirement? I think Marzia here does pretty well without the green eyes.
(Yes, Marzia is Hispanic. And yes, I’ve met her last time I was in Plano – she works at a gym there, just by the hotel I happened to be staying in… And yes, she’s even hotter in person. Accent included.)

The south has serious problems because of the fuckin welfare the dems put in. They wanna sit back relax, smoke drink, or whatever. The north kinda fuckin owns cause of the industry as stated before. I have spent significant time in the south and this attitude is sadly prevasive.
Southern schools are nothing compared to Northern schools. Just to mntion a few, Harvard, Yale, columbia, etc. Why do you think shows like the Beverly Hill Billys succeed. They don’t make this stuff up ya know. BTW I have cousins from Kennetucky so dont tell me I don’t know jack shit.
I agree, but the dems diddnt do it. The South did it to themselves, and Regan too screwing up the Bretton Woods agreement. The Church had a huge part in the decline of southern economy and productivity, mainly because of the seperation of the white and black races. The northern states were always more liberal, and integrated, so in turn, better. The south favored segeragation and the Church, economically speaking, unable to hold it’s own that way. 2nd tier nations in the middle east segregate their ethnic tribes and place their church first, so they are just as stable as the south in America is. Texas and most southern school children have a problem learning how to read. I lived in Georgia and I learned little to nothing there. I move to New Jersey and strangely I learn more in schools then I ever did. As long as the southern states keep education to a minimum standard, they will produce sub standard students. The north or the Dem’s cant help if the south wont admit they need help. Most, if not all Southern men and women will agree there is nothing wrong with their states. Either they are too proud or sincerely dont realsize whats going on, nothing will change.
I want to see the south rise again, and I am willing this at any cost. Get everyone to agree “Hey, the southern states are in trouble” and you might have some momentum to work with.

Until then, good luck.

It’s changing. Poverty is no where near where it used to be. Industry is flocking to the area. Look at Atlanta in the last 20 years. Look at the Raleigh-Durham area. Dallas, Houston, and Austin can be included as well. Once Texas got off the oil tit - we have made some big strides. It is a process - not a gov’t program.
It will take continued hard work by the INDIVIDUAL - not a New Deal-like handout.
But you have way too much agricutlure in the region to ever be equal with the Norhteast. Price takers are just above beggars. And that is all agriculture is - a bunch of price takers.
And “equal” is a realtive term. Why in God’s name would any self respecting southerner want to be anything like a damn yankee?

Thank you for saving me from having to type this.
Yankees: Down here, we actually feel sorry for y’all. You guys don’t know what it means to live in a culture that isn’t dominated by constant attention to clocks, schedules, stress, etc.
I think that’s why y’all are so rude to each other. The reason there’s such a thing as “Suthen 'Ospitaltay” is because we aren’t kicking each other’s asses trying to rush around to get everywhere as fast as we can.
All of us down heeyaw just shake our heads and wonder why y’all seem so intent on hurryin’ up and dying. We call it the “Yankee Mystery”.
