The Shaving Cream Racket

We should all be shaving like this…

Can someone explain this “shaving” thing? Can it help me?

well, today was the 5th day shaving w/ just water, and the 3rd consecutive day.

dang it if johnny bow tie wasn’t spot on.

Lucky you. Maybe its because I could not shave under the shower (sinkshave), but I had to switch back to oil this morning after 2 dayssink` shaving because of razor burns. Long live the shower!

You total cheap bastards.

Just try this for an investment…

1 shaving brush (with badger hair)
1 double edged old skool john wayne type razor.
palmolive soap.

Cheap as chips, no scam and been producing results for ever. You can always add baby or shaving oil UNDER the shaving soap - the palmolive has no added chemicals and perfumes which is the real reasons your faces turn to mush and sting like a bastard.[/quote]

BullShit. I recently bought a old fashioned double edge razor after reading several articles promising the best shave ever. It took me twice as long as shaving with my Mach3, and after the bleeding finally stopped, I still had to go over it with my Mach3 to get it smooth. There’s a reason DE razors were replaced: They suck.

well, i’ve been shaving w/ water and a mach 3 for 3 weeks now.

when i started this i figured “yeah, just like anything else you can get used to it.” but i never in a million years woulda figured i’d actually get better shaves, day in day out, than i did w/ the foam. much better. i’m not going back.

Good for you. I’m still experimenting. Oil tends to clog my pores a lot, even after a double soap rinse. So I had to go back to foam this morning. Plain water + El Cheapo blade gives me skin burns after 3 days in a row when watering my face at the sink instead of under a shower. Maybe the Mach 3 is the X-Factor I need to finish this test.

Found this one while searching for shaving cream alternatives:

Why don’t people know this? It’s just part of the lost knowledge of our time. Wean yourself from it for a week, and you will find that your shaves will be closer, unbloody, and quick. Imagine a full shave in less than a minute, with no cuts, gashes, or discomfort. It is within your grasp.

Bullshit. I tried this for a week and my shaves took 3 times as long, were painful as hell, and tore the fuck out of my face. Pass the Colgate foam, please.

other possible factors: i usually don’t shave weekends. i use straight aloe from the supermarket econo-bottle for aftershave.

My best combo so far: Splash face with hot water, let it get in the skin 2-3 minutes, apply oil over areas to shave, splash face with hot water, shave, rinse (hot then cold water). Some of the oil stays there, but it acts as a moisturizer, so in a way it’s a good thing.

Quickest alternative to above: baby lotion. I hate the smell, even after rincing most of it off.
