The Second Republican Debate

I give Trump the advantage for turnout, because I doubt Hillary, Bernie, or Biden is going to excite any Democrat at this point.

Bernie excites them but its just a smaller subset since hes a bit off from the usual democratic platform everyone has been aligning their ideals with.

Mark Levin explains the Trump Phenomenon, and I think he nails it.

I’m one of those who actually likes him and I’m not afraid to admit that I will vote for him if he is nominated (but I would MUCH rather vote for Cruz).

This is certainly how I feel about the man.
ZEB wrote:

But, I agree he needs to drop that nasty side in the end it can only hurt him.

As Mark Levin said, drop that nasty side, and he ceases to be Trump. That nasty side is part of what is so appealing about him.

As someone who is thoroughly fed up with the tyranny of language the PC left has wrought upon us, I personally love it.

“Our leaders are stupid”
“Megyn Kelly’s a Bimbo”
“Look at Carly face”
“Rosie’s fat”

These are all non-sense spewed for entertainment value. He thinks he’s on SNL. He can be anti-politically correct without saying dumb things.
Yeah, that’s the underside of Trump, very nasty and ugly. But the flip side is that voters view him as being someone who gets things done. Someone who is capable unlike the typical politician who is constantly promising things and never actually accomplishing them.

But, I agree he needs to drop that nasty side in the end it can only hurt him.

Hey, I’m not a big Trump fan but when you kick it up to 10 billion you’ve done a lot right. Sure as I said he has had his failures but overall he’s one of the richest guys in the US so I have to give him his due. Fiorina doesn’t nearly have the resume of Donald Trump.

I would support Fiorina in a heart beat over Hillary (the liar) Clinton. I don’t have to even think about it. Here’s why, if we have another four to eight years of out of control spending by the left we are pretty much done as a country. The left doesn’t get it and they never will. They need to continue to feed their many followers and new recruits with out of control give-a-way programs. Not to mention the judges that want to change the laws (for the worse) from the bench not really interpreting the constitution but making it up as they go along. No, we cannot afford another democrat President for a good long time.

On the other hand regardless of who the republicans choose I will vote for the republican philosophy. Granted it is far from perfect and past republican Presidents have let me down. But I do know that we have at least a chance with a republican President. And if we get a republican House and Senate in addition to a republican President we might just make a great comeback!

I get it you don’t like Trump personally, neither do I. What’s to like? He’s a big mouth bragger who loves himself first. At least that’s the impression he gives. But, I sure will support him over Hillary Clinton the liar, Bernie sanders the socialist or Joe Biden the liberal gaffe machine.

Don’t make the mistake that the majority of people in the US make. Don’t vote for or against personality. Vote for a philosophy, a party (even tough the party is not perfect—far from it). And if you want more left wing judges, higher taxes, run away spending and big government make sure that you stay home on election day and give Hillary a chance to win. All because the republican candidate is not the exact one that you want.

(Personally I don’t see Trump making it all the way. But keep in mind a half a loaf is better than no loaf at all!)
ZEB, it isn’t that I don’t like Trump’s personality. It is that he is a democrat and a progressive. I fully believe if he gets the nomination and ultimately the White House he will set conservatives and Republicans back 15-30 years. He’s a RINO if there ever was one.

No.

Thing is, he knows what he’s doing. He won’t do that. This is NOT a stupid man by any stretch of the imagination. His statements are not gaffs and that’s part of the reason he doesn’t apologize. He’s saying exactly what he intends to say. He knows how to negotiate and how to position himself, whether that involves ingratiating himself with people or getting them emotionally riled up, he maintains the upper hand. We are witnessing this.

Again, I’m not saying I think he’d make the best President, but I do think he is extremely competent. If your primary concern is him being a closet RINO, then why aren’t you equally upset about Kasich, Bush, Fiornio, Christie, Graham or any of the other pretenders in this race?

Personally, I agree with you that he is not a true Conservative. However, I don’t think he’s an out and out liar, and I do think that his ego drives him to achieve what he says he’s going to achieve. That’s one of the things that makes me feel like I can trust him more than I can Bush or Kasich. At least Trump is honest about his flip-flopping. He is a businessman, not a politician, so when he does things, it will NOT be because he is making behind-closed-doors deals with lobbyists or Democrats or whatever other special interests. I imagine he’s probably actually planning to do a lot of what he says. And what further separates him from that pack is that he has the mouth, the fortitude, the wherewithal and the ego to blast through the bureaucratic morass, cut through the red tape and actually get a lot of those things done.

Again, I want Ted Cruz up there, but I don’t think Trump would be the disaster that you do. The more I watch him, the more I like the guy.

I don’t think he is dumb. I think he’s very intelligent actually. However, I don’t see how you can have so much faith in him. He says what he means? Then why did he specifically make a comment about Fiorina’s face and then say he was talking about her personality? Megyn Kelly is a “bimbo” come on Cortez.
Again, I’m not saying I think he’d make the best President, but I do think he is extremely competent.
In real estate, absolutely.
If your primary concern is him being a closet RINO, then why aren’t you equally upset about Kasich, Bush, Fiornio, Christie, Graham or any of the other pretenders in this race?
My primary concern is that he is a closet liberal. When any of the folks you mention become viable contenders or win the nomination I’ll gladly cite the reasons I don’t like any of them with the exception of Fiorina and possibly Kasich.
Personally, I agree with you that he is not a true Conservative. However, I don’t think he’s an out and out liar, and I do think that his ego drives him to achieve what he says he’s going to achieve.
I don’t understand how you can just ignore his past. The man was in favor of single payer healthcare. He is in favor of raising taxes. It’s a long list of flip flops. How can you trust a guy like that?
That’s one of the things that makes me feel like I can trust him more than I can Bush or Kasich. At least Trump is honest about his flip-flopping.
Or he’s just playing the conservative base to win the nomination. Bush and Kasich both have records they can’t hide from, but Trump gets a pass. I just don’t get that. For crying out loud Jeb is being skewered because of his last name.
He is a businessman, not a politician, so when he does things, it will NOT be because he is making behind-closed-doors deals with lobbyists or Democrats or whatever other special interests.
I don’t believe that.
Like what? Deport 12 million people, not gonna happen. Make the military “so big and so strong” what does that even mean?
And what further separates him from that pack is that he has the mouth, the fortitude, the wherewithal and the ego to blast through the bureaucratic morass, cut through the red tape and actually get a lot of those things done.
I think what separated him from the pack is that he’s a celebrity and that’s about it.
Again, I want Ted Cruz up there, but I don’t think Trump would be the disaster that you do.
I honestly have no idea what you can possibly base this on. He talks a good game much like our current President.
The more I watch him, the more I like the guy.
I feel the exact opposite.

If nothing else at all, Trump has absolutely destroyed Jeb Bush’s previously thought to be in the bag chances at this race. And good for him.

Here is one of Trump’s hilarious, brilliant attack ads. Tell me this guy is not running a savvy campaign. I just love it. It’s so completely different from the conventional, and yet, it is so much more true and effective.

If he was going to completely do the opposite of what he said he was going to do (something he is NOT known for, at all), then why on earth is he running as a Republican? The Dem field is WAY more wide open, and there are far worse candidates to go up against.

I just don’t see your reasoning on why he should do a complete turnaround on all of his positions. Again: He’s a businessman. Not a politician.

I think it is because Hillary Clinton, at the time, was basically being anointed POTUS by a lot of people while the Republican party didn’t have a clear nominee in sight. Plus it’s easy to attach the likes of Jeb Bush.
I have no idea why he was once for single payer and still thinks it’s a great system, but now he mysteriously doesn’t.

Yes, he’s a business man. The same businessman that is proud of the fact that he’s bought politicians to get what he wants. You don’t think he’d try something similar as POTUS?

I get the idea and I’m on board. But, saying someone is ugly, or fat is just beneath the dignity of the office. Use that “nasty side” to put an opponent in his or her place with facts.

I don’t think he can get through a speech without calling someone stupid or a jerk. All I am saying is less of that and more ranting about how bad the economy is and how much better we can do.

Okay, let’s say that there is a question as to whether he is a conservative or not–fair enough. You say he’s not, but you don’t know for sure. However, if you help elect Hillary by staying home we KNOW FOR A FACT that she’s NOT a conservative. Better to go with the person that says he’s a conservative than the one that you know will work against conservative ideas.

By the way, if Trump did win he’d want a second term for certain. I don’t think he will be able to lie to the electorate and win reelection. Isn’t that at least in part what they don’t like about standard politicians? And what has made him so popular?

If he is the nominee we have to at least give him the opportunity to let us down. Chances are he won’t. But Hillary will most certainly screw us in the end.

Well, then don’t expect to vote all that often. The odds of you getting the perfect candidate of your choice is slim. And guess what? When you get your perfect candidate there is someone else saying “I don’t like him I’m staying home.” And your guy loses.

Politics is really about compromise at every level. The guy you think is no good might very well end up being a decent President. And the person whom he’s running against, if she wins, will be another disaster along the lines of Obama. Try to take your emotion out of the equation and vote for the best candidate of the two.

It’s the only way we ever win in the end. Otherwise, if everyone felt as you do our turnout would be dismal.

As I said in the end your perfect candidate is someone else’s nightmare candidate.

Use logic.

Was Romney that bad? I wasn’t as tuned into politics but he didn’t seem like a bad guy. What were the alternatives? The difference I see this election is that there are a lot of good alternatives to Trump.
