I watched an 80s sci fi movie called Arena.
Some human on a space station wants to become the first ever human to win an intergalactic fighting tournament. It’s an hour and a half of watching some guy punch rubber monsters.
Totally epic, loved every second of it
After you insisted that I watch Showdown in Little Tokyo, I had a craving for “B” movies with hilariously awful dialogue and acting, so over the weekend I watched the one with my all time favorite action star…
DEATH WISH 3!!!
With a wonderfully horrendous soundtrack by Jimmy Page!
ah good old Charlie. Those films are awesome. I don’t even know how many there are, pretty sure I’ve seen 5
yeah I think there were 5. Part 3 was the most over the top.
aye good ole Uncle Charlie. Sure was cool but he was no Michael Biehn that’s for sure
Who’s Michael Biehn? That name sounds so familiar.

dude, have you ever seen Up? First 15 minutes are the saddest fucking thing you’ll ever watch in your life.
Not going to give out any major spoilers, you don’t want to know every detail before you see the movie.
It was well done, the story was easy enough to follow, even for someone not familiar with Star Wars. JJ Abrams set up the story leaving questions, only to be answered in future Star Wars movies. Abrams pulled off the same effect with Star Wars that he did with the remake of Star Trek, which in my opinion was very good. This movie is worth seeing, light years better than Phantom Menace, Clone Wars, and Revenge of the Sith, you are not getting any of the Jar Jar Binx bullshit with this.
They also showed the trailer for the new Independence Day sequel, looks really good too.
It really made the prequels look even worse and such a horribly wasted opportunity. It really makes it look like the prequels were made by a computer that had been fed the components of a Star Wars movie and it spat out gibberish. The cartoony special effects piled on top of more cartoony effects with horrible over acting by CG characters and terribly misused real human actors are left even more inexcusable after this new movie.
George Lucas seemed to have lucked out when making the very first movie. I heard he was saved from disaster in the editing room with the original movie. He had a fluke and people thought he was a great director. I think he may have a good eye for things but he should have stopped there and let someone else do the prequels.

The epic soundtrack saved the first film, IMO.
Anyway, I think I’m one of the only people in the civilized world who couldn’t give a rat’s ass about Star Wars. Any of them.

Have to agree, I think part of it looking much better is that JJ Abrams shot this movie in 35mm film like episodes 4,5, and 6, not the digital bullshit.

Same here.
The latest Star Wars wasn’t bad though, just like the latest Terminator wasn’t bad. That’s about it.
The Force Awakens is the worst of the Star Wars Movies. It was certainly more polished from an acting and special effects standpoint than the prequels, but the story is quite badly written and unimaginative. It’s possible that 8 and 9 can explain some of what happened and make it reasonable, but I’m not holding out much hope. I was quite disappointed.

Which Star Wars movie was your favorite?

I sense much hyperbole in Silyak’s post.
Anyone who thinks the new movie is worse than any of the prequels obviously has a much different taste in movies than I do and am glad they disagree with me.

Episode 5 is the best.
I see the prequels vs episode 7 a question of substance vs. form. The prequels are a good story that is told poorly. Episode 7 is a poor story told well.

The prequels didn’t have a good story. Between the trade embargoes, Jar Jar and George Lucas’s description of Star Wars as a “soap opera”, I swear he was trolling fans of the OT. Should’ve seen it coming after the Holiday Special and the Ewok spin-offs…

This is the scene that evoked three prequels worth of backstory but delivered nothing:
It’s also the basis for the new movie.
Once it was established that Vader=Anakin, that scene was never going to have a completely satisfying explanation. But that issue arose long before the prequels. I’m not sure what the scene has to do with Episode 7 though.
I would like to know more about Supreme Leader Snoke, there is some speculation that he is Darth Plagueis. I would also like to see more about the creation of Kylo Ren. This more than anything pissed me off.
