The Return of Even More Movies You've Watched This Week III

This is one of the main problems with the movie. It creates situations which are meant to elicit an emotional response. But it never bothers to earn it.

Who gave a shit when Holdo sacrificed herself? In fact, which part of her even suggested even she was a suitable replacement for a general when she took command?

If it were Leia, the entire kamikaze sequence would have been astounding and a perfect end to her story arc. The emotional impact would be further emphasized with Poe’s reaction and then maturing from a reckless cowboy to an objective leader since he was so close to her. They could have then at least justified the fat Asian chick stopping Finn from sacrificing himself later. They could have given her the conflict of choosing between saving “the ones she loves” after watching both her sister and Leia sacrifice themselves, and allowing them to die as heroes or for the greater good or something.

Present that cheesy statement as an idea, not a stupid declaration followed by a fucking prepubescent kiss. This can be a potential theme that can be explored further in the next episode.

Make all these events tie-in with a common theme. This is why people are so divided over the movie. You confuse the audience when you don’ even understand your own theme/core values. Everything exists as separate, seemingly random events. Then you piss them off by shoving messages in their faces expecting them to accept these messages just because they are there.

In fact, the whole movie is about stuff not earned.

  • Rey is all-powerful. FFS even the worst of 80’s Rocky ripoffs at least had a silly training montage where the hero awkwardly fucks up first but eventually learns powerful shit.

  • Kylo kills Snoke so easily. At least it was fucking funny.

  • Fat Asian chick and Finn claim victory over the rich people on casino planet. You can’t just make me feel everyone is evil by virtue of their social class, nor can you make me assume everyone is an arms dealer(that would be absurd) or abuses animals and children and therefore make it a moral victory that resonates with me. You need to pinpoint individuals and depict actions that make me despise them first. And who do they think is going to be cleaning the place up after they trashed it?

  • Leia can fly around in space(LMAO!!!). Look, I understand she has The Force in her genes or something. But you gotta give some hints that she’s capable of doing something like that earlier on so the scene does not look like a complete cop-out. The Snoke death scene is the perfect contrast. He’s supposed to be fucking powerful but he dies so easily.

On a separate note, did anyone else almost fall off their seat laughing when Yoda shot lightning bolts from the sky?

Bright: Heard a ton of terrible stuff about it, but honestly I didn’t think it was that bad…I mean it wasn’t that good…but I enjoy Will Smith, and the whole plot was fairly interesting (to me.)

I’m probably just a troglodyte and didn’t understand any of the nuances though haha

I thought it had a lot of wasted potential, but it was just put together poorly. For example, what was the significance of the Shield of Light? They made a big stink about the group and then it went nowhere. What about the prophecy of the Orc raising from the dead or whatever? There’s a whole scene about it and then nothing. Who is the dark lord they mention that doesn’t show up? Why is there magic? They don’t even really explain what a “bright” is other than a magic wielder. There are probably 10 other WTF things in the movie.

It was almost like the direct assumed everyone had read the book (I don’t even know if there is one) or thought this was a sequel.

I heard they’re making a sequel so maybe it’ll make sense after that.

I couldn’t even make it past the interrogation scene with that silly looking elf and the bum they picked up. How did you guys watch the entire movie lol?

Bright, yeah, was kind of “meh” for me. Watched it whiile riding a stationary bike, so maybe that’s part of it. Seemed like a rehashing of old ideas (Elfstones of Shannara, Alien Nation), but at least mildly entertaining. Saw the trailer for it with my daughter when we went to see TLJ. I was hoping for more.

IMAX was even more exhausting. It’s not a feel-good movie, that’s for sure. I don’t know if it was intended or not, but the sense of elation and release that you sometimes get at the end of war movies (when the good guys finally prevail) just wasn’t there for me in this one. Even with Churchill’s iconic statement and Farrier’s return to the beach, I was just deflated afterwards.

Lol, ya… It did pick up a bit after that, but not much.

There have been several war movies that have literally drained me. Blackhawk Down and Saving Private Ryan being some standout examples.

This is my biggest complaint with TFA. At the end of the day though, these just aren’t good movies. I went into TLJ without expecting much, and I wasn’t disappointed. Even better, I wasn’t sitting there picking it apart like I was with TFA, because I was expecting everything to be stupid and senseless. As a result, I kinda enjoyed watching it.

I thought “Wow, Yoda is so powerful that he can literally create lightning bolts… and can influence the world even though he’s a force ghost. Why doesn’t he go fight Snoke then?”

Gotta say, y’all aren’t making me wanna go so TLJ … I have a feeling my eyes’d roll outta my head.

The film is beautifully shot and directed, but the plot and the theme is so scrambled and messed up that the film feels incoherent and aimless.

Agreed… I haven’t seen any of the new(est) SW because of this thread. If it’s half as bad as what Disney did to Indiana Jones, then it’s utter shit.

This made me feel sadness in my soul…I only recognize the original 3 #notmyIndiana

Fight Snoke? All you need to do is sneak up behind him and slice him in half while he’s staring at Rey’s butt lol.

Ultimately, the new trilogy makes me sad because it diminishes the OT individual heroes and their accomplishments in the original trilogy.

such is the heroes journey, the sun fades on one while another story rises to be told

The fans are upset because Luke was not Luke lol. He was Grumpy Luke. In the end he almost becomes the equivalent of an internet troll before passing on.

There’s a lot of unintentional humor that can be derived from this film if you are a fan of bad movies.

The only problem was the FAT ASIAN CHICK. Fuck. She’s the absolute worst character ever created in Star Wars. Yes, worse than Jar Jar Binks because he was mostly in the background and they didn’t dedicate an entire subplot to him.

I’m fine with the sun fading. This is more the sequel saying that the sun never really shone.

I will say that I laughed a fair bit at the new movie. Jar Jar Binks actually sort of did have a subplot in E1. But I’m with you that the Fat Asian Chick shouldn’t have been there.
