The Return of Even More Movies You've Watched This Week III

I watched about a half of “The Smashing Machine” last night. I really liked what I saw. There were many great small details that sucked me in! Kerr’s voice inflection, Paul Varelens’ fighting stance, Mark Coleman’s EZ chair, even Sakuraba’s orange shorts.

Some scenes/conversations were taken directly from the OG Smashing Machine documentary that I saw once like 20 years ago. Or news stories or just general perception of MMA around '98-2000.

It really took me back!

I’m excited to finish it up soon. And it would be interesting to hear the opinion of someone who didn’t know anything about Kerr or 2000’s MMA gossip or the Smashing Machine documentary.

We watched “Bugonia” last night. It was a really weird movie that was written very well and shot beautifully

@FlatsFarmer saw an older Sean Penn movie recently “At Close Range” this was like 1986 I think.
He was actually fairly jacked in this movie, like he had thickness to him and they had him wearing tight shirts.

He completely mogged every other actor in that film, his bro was in it too, mogged him. Chris Walken played his criminal father and you can see Walken is way taller but looked like total shit with his dad bod gut next to Penn.

Another good Penn film is “State of Grace” Irish Organized Crime movie, real good from the late 80s I think.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out for sure!

I watched “Bad Boys” awhile back. It was pretty solid.

I also started “The Gunman” from 2015. Penn was in great shape for that one too.

Did you see he won another Acadamy Award? Dude is legitimately of the all time greats now. He came a long way from Spicoli!

Everybody knows Christopher Walken, but all his respect earning, carreer defining movies were from before my time. Its good to hear about Good Ones to watch.

I watched “28 years later: The Bone Temple” last weekend. While it was entertaining, it didn’t have really any zombie action which kinda sucked. It also had what felt like a rushed and oddly cobbled together plot, and THEN they tried to add in emotions, to make you feel for the zombies, which really didn’t do much for me. Then the ending felt like they just threw it together last minute.

Again, I LOVE the 28 days, weeks, years, etc. series but this one was not one of the better ones. I’m hoping that the next one will be better. I would have watched it no matter what, but I definitely walked away a bit disappointed.

28 Days Later is one of my all time favorite movies. So well done and the music is awesome. I went and watched 28 Years and was let down by the overall plot. I also never liked the idea of “The Alpha”. Then I watched the Bone Temple the other day and I thoroughly disliked it! Giving any kind of emotion to an infected completely ruins the whole premise IMO. Getting infected it worse than dying. And the whole Jimmy storyline felt so forced and cheesy. Super disappointed in where the movies went after 28 Days.

One of Walkens best films ever was “Deer Hunter” if you haven’t seen it, you should really see that one, it’s brutal. DeNiro was damn good in that too, that’s when he was legit Oscar performance!

I saw The Deer Hunter during my “70s film appreciation period” in my 20s. Since then I’ve watched a scene or 2 here and there, but I haven’t gathered the the strength to sit through the whole thing again.

I hear ya, it’s not one of those films to rewatch the whole thing again unless you are studying to be an actor or deep into film production, lol.

I think the overall plot itself is excellent though.
