The Real Victims of Katrina

Who is asking people to sacrifice their lives?
Men are not whales or birds or whatnot – they are individual rational beings. They cannot live (very long) under any collectivist ideal. A mind cannot be forced, or it dies. The man who attempts to do so becomes subhuman (such as a Nazi).
Actually, that’s the ONLY way man could survive on this planet. It was the collective that brought our species to where it is, not the individual. Idividual nomads never accomplished anything beyond filling the stomachs of predators.
Socialism cannot work for this reason. Man has a particular nature. He requires freedom, especially from other men.
Socialism, Communism, Fascism, and so forth, are societies on the way to death. Each man must decide his own goal and purpose, without regard for other men. Socialism wishes to replace this with ‘the good of society’. It cannot work, just as a bird cannot eat like a whale and a whale can’t perch in a tree.
So you not only want to abolish taxes, but also civilization as we know it? You really are a forward thinker. Are you seriously a teacher?

I see you didn’t mention Democracy in the above, why not?

I’m not going to sift through all forty pages of this argument, but the original poster was right. In addition, unless you’ve lived with Louisiana politics and priorities for a few years, you don’t know how bad things are run.

Yes, I was there, and the begging, blame and associated BS has run me out of that state for the final time. You yankees, when they call New Jersey the Louisiana of the east coast, it’s not a compliment. Think Tammany Hall, but it’s been going on since Huey Long was in office. It still is now.

BTW, in case anyone dosen’t know, the Federal Flood insurance program exists precisely because no company that wanted to stay solvent would insure 95% of this crap. Which, coincidentally, is why people shouldn’t build there, looking out for their own self interests and all.

That’s an interesting first time post to the forum.

Please provide us some more of your vast knowledge in regards to Louisiana Political corruption. Perhaps you and I can discuss The Mafia Kingfish and all…
Laissez les bons temps rouler

Yeesh!

So this thread is basically one of us complaining that the Katrina victims didn’t ask for help politely enough?

Good point. They could have asked nicer.

Should we begrudge them aid because of this? Hmmm… tough call. It’s pretty tough to be generous to someone who is rude. Still, let’s not be dicks, okay? Shit happens.

Is NO worth it? Ever been to a Mardi Gras? Let’s keep out wits here and shell out a few bucks for some titty flashes, huh?

You think of civilisation as we know it to be Fascism, Socialism, Communism? And then you wonder why I (big capital I) left out democracy?

Let me ask you: what was different about the United States when it was founded, compared to other countries at the time? The Founding Fathers understood that freedom means freedom from other men. No nobles, no kings, none of that crap. Freedom from other men. What does that mean? Does it means that a portion of your money should be forced from you to help others? Does it means that you should be a slave to the needs of others?

You seem fairly bright, but unfortunately you have forgotten your roots. Read Ayn Rand, read Crockett’s speech, read the Federalist papers. It can be done.

They didn’t ask, they shreiked, all over national TV. They demanded their booty. Where you been, under a rock?

Good one, Prof! It is interesting how the meaning of words changes. One of my students once called me a ‘Pimp’. He saw that I was getting angry and explained the meaning to me.

Now, their calling me ‘Dad’…whatever the hell the hidden meaning is there, I can’t guess.

You clearly are so out of popular culture that it even distances you from people you interact with daily. That isn’t exactly something to be proud of. Who the fuck since the 1800’s uses “booty” in terms of money aside from pirates?

Wow, try to be nice and you get slammed.! Ok, Professor Hex, all bets are off. My earlier assessment is now even more firmly validated.

And you will not be forgiven.

What? I asked a very legit question (legit=legitimate for those who are that ebonically challenged). Who uses “booty” to describe anything but BOOTY today? It implies that perhaps your entire world view isn’t even au courant (that means ‘up to date’ for those who don’t know any other languages).

I do. Just because you think that words are made of plastic and can fit anything you desire does not obviate the original meaning.

Out of all the things on this thread, you choose to attack me now for my use of a word (which by the way connotes what really is happening)? Your reaching, Prof. Must be desperation time.

BTW: Maybe you and the whack job in Iran should get together – “Holocaust? Ah, it never happened, it’s just a made up word. Reality, like words, are what I decide they are!!”

How do you logically go from the use of the word “booty” to the Holocaust? From big asses…to mass extermination of entire race of people? Are you feeling ok?

“If the meaning of words can change, maybe the reality these words were meant to describe can change too.” That was my point, what I’m ascribing to you – thought you’d pick up on that.

Maybe I’m wrong Professor – perhaps you really DON’T have the capacity to know the difference between right and wrong. If you’ve accepted that some humans have the right to force other humans to bear their burdens, then perhaps you never had this capacity in the first place.

Force you? How much money have you given directly to Katrina victims through taxes?

You really don’t. Sorry, Prof. x.

Wait, did that answer the question I asked? You fucking coward.

Hey, I thought we couldn’t use this sort of attack on here. Cool, I get to call you a blowhard prick! Cool!

I pay taxes. Since some of that money is paid to the refugees, my porportion is relative to that. But if you have understood anything (which I now doubt), I am defending the right of people not to be forced. Its been a long day, but who said “Millions for charity but not one cent for tribute.”

Prof. x, you really don’t understand. Sorry.

Did you read the piece by Crockett, you poor soul?

But HOW MUCH? I mean, honestly, if you don’t even know how much of your taxes are going to Katrina Victims, then OBVIOUSLY, your money is going more than one place. If that is the case, why not make a thread about everywhere your money goes? Do you even know? If not, why do you ONLY care so much about Katrina Victims? Did 9/11 victims cause this much outrage in you? If not, why?

Because I didn’t see them making demands from the Federal treasury. Did they? Did they demand that the Federal government rebuild the towers?

Who cares? You still don’t know where the fuck your money is going but are crying because some of it is going to help Katrina Victims. WHERE IS YOUR MONEY GOING, HEADHUNTER? Inquiring minds want to know.
