Sure. No argument there. But we are talking about Trump and his predecessors dishonesty. Apparently Trump’s false statements are more egregious than other politicians are because he doesn’t care if they are easily disproven and doesn’t apologize for them.
Maybe I’ll feel differently if one of his false statements leads to war and the loss of thousands of lives.
I guess my point is that a person that demonstrably is a pathological liar is less trustworthy than someone who isn’t.
The type of claims I trust Obama with are much larger in scope than what I can trust Trump with. For example, I could trust Obama to accurately describe a crowd size, with Trump that is out of scope of what I can trust him with.
Fair enough. I’m not any good at determining the pathology of other people’s lies, but I’m no expert.
What concerns me more than the open lies is the ability of so many lifetime politicians who do not seem to be “pathological” liars to become staggeringly wealthy through decades of public service.
People like Biden have been at the highest levels of government for decades, yet somehow Trump, who came into office wealthy, is responsible for most of our problems today after just a few short years in office.
But hey, they look good on camera. Or did, in Biden’s case.
No, that isnt all of it - the primary issue is that the lying is pathological, not situational, and done in the extreme to try and gain something personal. That puts people and the country at risk, given how much power and influence he has in his role.
People who lie to this degree have mental disorders. People with mental disorders of this magnitude shouldn’t be making decisions for the country.
I would suggest a method of determining if the lying is normal or a mental pathology. If it is demonstrated that a person is lying close to every day or multiple times a day, it is usually considered a pathology.
It is not great logic to only be concerned with the greatest issue, and disregard all the others. It is good you are concerned with corruption, but that does not mean you shouldn’t be concerned with the staggering amount of lies from potus.
More penance is necessary, I see. I’ve given plenty of my Trump criticisms, yet you still seem perplexed at how someone (like me) could possibly see a vote for Trump as less shitty than a vote for Biden. I don’t have any problem seeing your perspective, but I’m a mere simpleton, clearly vulnerable to the cult of MAGA nation.
Maybe later I’ll spend my time writing about what you want me to write about, but I’m all set for now.
Except I never said that. My quote exactly was “I think what has most people so upset about about Trump is that he’s open with his pathology.” How do you conflate that to me giving him credit? Let’s at least be honest about things here in a discussion about lying, shall we?
I can understand your thinking there. I simply wouldn’t take anything at face value from Obama or Trump without verifying it because they both have lied to the public. Would I have an expectation that one might not be lying over another? Sure, but I’m going to verify it regardless.
Is this something someone has said in this thread? If so I must have missed it. If it’s a comment on what Democrats think about him then I would just point out that Democrats haven’t been any more insane on Trump than Republicans were on Obama.
More of a comment on how both sides are idiotic, and how bipartisanship and political moderates have been cast aside as weak people instead of how we used to view them.
