Levi… I mean brevity.
Somebody mentioned Romney a while back.
In their first “debate”, Romney flayed Obama open to expose the empty suit of fancy rhetoric that he is, when not propped up and wound into action by his handlers. That is the Obama I see. Off the firing squad topic, my apologies, but baby jesus keeps getting brought up as the “standard” of comparison in here.
By Trump himself. You didn’t see that coming, son.
What do you consider staggeringly wealthy, and other than presidents, who are these people you speak of? My assumption has always been that lifetime politicians are able to make money from speaking fees and writing books- should they not be allowed to profit from those potential avenues of income? Or are you implying that these lifetime politicians are taking illicit payments?
I don’t have a problem with anyone writing a book and someone else choosing to buy it.
Why do you think the spoken words of a politician are valued so highly?
Do you believe that someone like Hillary Clinton has knowledge or inspiration worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to a business that can only be acquired if they book her as a speaker? I mean, the top consultants in my line of work can bill upwards of $250 an hour after accumulating a few decades of experience, but that’s peanuts compared to a business savant like Hillary Clinton.
Why do you think so many places find it worthwhile to pay these politicians such massive amounts of money in speaking fees?
I didn’t know if you were talking to someone in particular or not so I was confused. No one to my knowledge on this forum has even suggested that he is to be blamed for everything is why I asked.
I absolutely think HRC has experience, and knowledge that is that valuable. She was a practicing lawyer, then first lady, then senator, then won the popular vote in a presidential election where she had to deal with a crushing defeat. She has an incredible story, has had incredible experiences only a handful have shared, has experience giving speeches to fire up crowds, and has numerous past speeches to draw upon when putting together a talk for your company.
Its the same with other famous politicians. They all are really good at the politics of business, speak really well, and are practiced at getting crowds fired up. They are in demand for speeches for the same reason that colleges pay really well for their commencement speakers. FFS Joe Rogan charges as much as HRC for speeches… do you think he has more applicable knowledge to offer to a room full of executives than a big name politician?
Its no secret that private companies hire politicians for speeches in the hopes of swaying them on issues. But its really no different than paying $10k a plate for a seat at their table during a fundraiser… except you dont have to share their time with the other dinner guests. Do you really think that dry quail breast is really work $10k?
Who are these politicians (not ex presidents) that are ridiculously wealthy, and do you think they should be able to profit off of their fame, talent, and career experience?
No, this demystifies the part that the fact that it was an opinion article from The Hill carries any weight.
After all, John Solomon has been posting on The Hill articles about Biden fed to him by the second-in-command of the Russian mob and Flynn has been advocating his harebrained guns-for-hire plan to kidnap an US resident in now an infamous piece.
In terms of content, it seems the criteria is uneven at best. Apparently, knowledge of firearm types is a mortal sin:
Obama’s animosity to the Second Amendment spurred some of his most farcical whoppers. In July 2016, Obama asserted: “We flood communities with so many guns that it is easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than get his hands on a computer or even a book.” Glocks are the Lexus of handguns, and a person could buy hundreds of volumes of used books via Amazon for the price of a Glock.
I separate “are” wealthy from “have become wealthy” through public service. Nancy Pelosi has been in politics her entire life. She’s had no other job. She is worth north of one hundred million dollars, yet wails from the rooftops that the public must be able to see Donald Trump’s tax returns, who was a billionaire before his first day as a public servant.
This is the one issue I am firmly “same stuff on both sides”, because we have corruption up and down our political chain. Call it “speaking fees” or “dinner fees” or whatever you want, these companies are paying for access. Period.
Probably about the same business acumen, if I had to guess. Joe Rogan merely has an audience of hundreds of millions of people who listen to him. I suppose his comedic talent is valued somewhat. He’s also not in charge of shaping public policy, so get after it, Joe.
Yes, Joe Rogan absolutely has a larger audience that would like to hear him speak. But that audience is not the executive level audience that drools to hear the movers and shakers of policy and business speak.
In other words, the uneducated poor masses want to hear weed jokes from Rogan, and the suits want to hear how to change the world and make a billion dollars from Buffet, Gates, Pelosi, etc. One group is looking to be entertained, the other is looking to learn and be motivated.
FWIW i am 100% on the side of Trump and his taxes (though i think he should release them unrepentantly). Who in their right goddamn mind pays more taxes than the absolute minimum? He absolutely should have taken and used every exemption and loophole available to him within the law.
Given that Obama was talking about teens in the ghetto, it might indeed be easier for them to buy a Glock than use their non-existent Amazon accounts to buy books.
I think you misunderstood my point. Part of Joe Rogan’s “value” is his massive reach.
Businesses are not stupid. They may blow money on T&E expenses from time-to-time, but you’re naive if you believe that they’re only booking someone like Hillary Clinton to hear her inspirational stories of marrying Bill Clinton and losing elections.
It is also silly to believe Trump couldn’t have won the popular vote if he campaigned for it. That’s not how the game is won. The 1960 World Series was lost by a team who scored TWICE as many runs as the winner, which makes them losers. Just like Hillary.
It isn’t a penance - PWI isn’t an echo chamber.
10-4. I kinda figured.
Before Citizens United we at least had legislation and rules about this and somehow unlimited money for access by corporations simply became free speech. If I Remember right mr Trump hires their president as his deputy campaign manager.
I think we’ve done the whole debate over Citizens United on here before and I’m not really wanting to go down that path, but I think removing zero limits on contributions by corporations is a good place to start.
There is one election. There are seven games in the World Series.
Joe Rogans massive reach is valued approximately the same as HRCs. Hence the similar speaking fees.
Thanks for repeating what i said about HRC winning the popular vote and losing the election, but phrasing it as though you were teaching me something.
Now Trump is accusing Joe Scarborough of murder. The husband of the dead woman has asked Trump to stop. Does Trump stop? No. Is this a case of political 4-D chess? I don’t think so. I think it’s a case of Trump being a garbage human being who really has no redeemable qualities. He’s always been a piece of shit and a big mouth coward but for some reason, people outside of the NYC area (who have been onto him as a scumbag for decades), see him as a strong man, a real man, who says whatever he wants. Yeah, whatever he wants about women usually and never to their faces. The fat fuck is like Charles Bronson and John Wayne rolled into one, with the addition of steroids, to these star struck reality show watching humanoids.
It was on Twitter, so apparently it does not count. You know, the “why read someone’s tweets” argument.
I naturally assume that all politicians want to accuse Joe Scarborough of murder, but only Trump has the balls to say it. The previous Presidents were pussies. Trump tells it like it is!
I just see things such a different way. The President pushing conspiracy theories all the time shouldn’t be continuously dismissed by so many with the typical “yeah he says stupid things” defense on here by his supporters.
Carry on, then. But you’ll have to square that up with @twojarslave, who is upset that politicians seem to get rich while in office just being a politician. But that doesn’t affect you personally (or twojarslave), so that isn’t a problem in need of fixing - so be sure and tell him he’s in a tizzy about nothing.
