Welp, trump just made a veiled threat to highly regulate and/or shut Twitter down if they put more “fact check” warnings on his tweetings of unfounded conspiracy theories.
By the way, the Army Corps of Engineers reports (as of yesterday) a total of three new miles of border fence constructed where there previously was none. And Mexico hasn’t paid for any of it.
So, to sum up, in four years, the only thing Trump has done to make it harder for Mexican gangsters and rapists to cross the border is…make them walk the equivalent of a 5k further down the border.
Look around at your next rally MAGA nation, Trumpkins - you’re the marks.
That’s somewhat close to what I was inferring. My point was, is someone more believable because they tell “small” lies vs “big” lies? My question of zecarlo was to ask if he believed morality had a gradient. The levels of punishment do not detract from the fact that a person is still a thief. To me a pathological liar is to not be believed regardless of the type of lies one tells. Same as the thief. Ergo, a politician who tells small lies is no more believable than someone like Trump.
The problem is when they are believed. Believing something “small” is not the same as believing something “big.”
The thing is, if the president is so irrelevant that it doesn’t matter what he says, then why have one? At the very least, why have press conferences and speeches?

To me Trump is a no brainer on it but not sure I would say the others are pathological.
To me saying well anyone who told a lie is a liar therefore if someone lies all the time they are the same as someone who lies infrequently is an odd take.
I do. I think what has most people so upset about about Trump is that he’s open with his pathology. He says outrageous things without caring what people think and without apologizing for anything. People prefer their pet politicians to deceive in secret, as well as all the other bad things they do, so they can tell themselves after it becomes public that it wasn’t their fault they were deceived.
I go into it thinking everything Trump, all past Presidents, Congress, etc. say is a lie until proven to be true. Hence, I don’t get too worked up about what they say. Actions > words.
So, let’s get this on the record - you think Trump’s lying is no different than any other garden variety politician we’ve had, right?

Lies are expected to be believed - no one lies but starts with “I’m lying on this, but here is what I want you to believe”. That defeats the point of lying in the first place.

It depends on context. It would be a virtuous act to lie to Nazis about the Jews you have hiding under your floor boards for example.
Everybody has told a lie at some point in their life. To say all liars are the same, or all politicians lie, and therefor who cares is a bit of an odd take.
I am going to trust someone who is not demonstrably a pathological liar over someone who is. To assume all should be assumed to be lying until truth is proven is throwing out the fact that it is reasonable to take people’s word on things if they have a good track record. Now if the claim becomes outlandish, then proof of some sort is going to be required for me to be convinced of truth, but that also does not mean I am convinced of them lying.
