He did downplay the risk to the public, but at the same time governors and congress where being told the truth. I think that was the only answer. You can’t just come out one day and tell the public shit is about to hit the fan. Look at the panic buying that happened even easing into this thing. There would have been riots if in early February he were to say that the entire country is going to go on complete lockdown eventually.
Maybe. I just don’t know. Initially polling of how he has handled the crisis has already risen pretty quick since he dicked around at the beginning. Zero chance the majority of Americans are remember what he didn’t do in Feb. how many Americans this second realize we denied the initial testing? I’d put the percent at maybe 5.
Republicans only fake fight about it. They love “free” money just as much as anyone else does. They won’t give Trump much grief about anything he does here. The casino is giving out all the winnings for a few nights and everyone isn’t remembering the losses they took or may take in the future. Average people don’t give a fuck about the national debt and aren’t going to start in the middle of a crisis. People don’t like bailouts that only hit big business. Bailout for them while giving shit to Main Street? That’s a win.
His supporters want him. If he says Mexico is bad they agree. If he says they are good they agree. If we hate universal health care because Trump says so they are in. If in 3 months he says it’s time to get everyone coverage they are in. Stimulus checks, no evictions, etc. That’s instant wins across the board.
His base won’t be an issue no matter what. You’ll hear light clamoring from the typical moderate Republicans and no one else. Those die hard we can’t afford Bernie people will all be on board. Especially if he passes all of this and doesn’t give a fuck about raising taxes on the wealthy. Boom you just made everyone happy.
It’s a chance for him to get people on the fence to rethink the way they feel about him right before the election. Once this is done he’ll go back to tweetstorms and all the usual behavior of a child. For right now if he acts like an adult for a few months that will be what people are remembering at the time.
The issue is that shit didn’t need to hit the fan. And if it was regardless, why wait?
Yet, there are not riots now so why say there would have been then?
That was the wrong approach. It needed to be dealt with aggressively and early on. The real problem is that countries like the US, UK, Germany, all look at Italy and say, “well that’s Italy for you, we’re not going to have the same problems dealing with this. Italians are disorganized, lazy and like to kiss each other in public.” Now we’re all like, “oh no, it’s looking like Italy all over again.”

Why not? Time in this thing has been huge. You don’t have to say shit is about to hit the fan. You have experts tell the American people why changing behavior now is necessary. You back those experts up and explain why they are correct. You lay out what to do and why to do it and not wait.
The evidence points to Trump waiting because he didn’t take it seriously until it was impossible to deny. He has a long history of ignoring experts and facts. He was the sole person we could rely on to deliver a message of necessity. Instead he was talking about how all of this is no big deal and business as usual should continue. He doesn’t need the water carried for him on this one. He was simply wrong.
We’re discussing Biden’s mental health when we have a President who speaks and then when he’s finished his own people have to say “ok well what he said isn’t true.”
The blame for that won’t go on him. I think the things I pointed out are very good possibilities. I think this crisis may be what saves him in 20 not what costs him 20. But who knows.

Read the quotes dude. Check how we didn’t take the initial tests. Banning travel from China was a good move. It was hardly the only thing we needed to do. If it was we wouldn’t be having this talk. Politicians didn’t need to be told the truth. The action to help this was the majority of people changing behavior. Acting like telling the truth behind closed doors was smart doesn’t make sense.

Calling it the Coronavirus initially and then changing it to the China virus is a mistake Trump made. When you’re facing a global health crisis getting into tiny pissing matches like that doesn’t help. We would be wise to work with China on this and not stoke those fears. They would be wise to do the same.

Quite honestly, I don’t think that this all affects Trump that much.
Why? Stuff that would have absolutely destroyed another President’s chances of re-election just seem to roll off Trump.
I am with @zecarlo in saying that even Trump can’t be completely blamed for this one…but the sad part is that it hasn’t appeared to have humbled his arrogant ass one iota.
Anyone blaming anyone solely is nuts. The decisions that world leaders make as always is important.
