This is the unfortunate situation of bought politicians in a capability market. Boeing has no qualms asking for this because they are the number exporter (in terms of dollars) in the country.
Look at their stock, it has tanked tremendously since the start of the 737 Max fiasco and they already fired their CEO earlier this year (someone’s head had to roll).
Well we have evidence we can’t trust one. He hasn’t listened to experts throughout his presidency. And this time…well now we’re left to wonder if him thinking he’s the smartest in the room is something we will recover from. But no degradation!
Maybe we shouldn’t ask if we want 4 more years, but can we take for 4 more?

I wasn’t going to vote for him anyway, but his attitude during the early phases of this has made me decide to actively help the campaign against him, regardless of who that is.
Words and attitude have consequences, and in this case that is lives lost and lives ruined. Don’t play politics with a fucking virus.
However, credit where due, now that he’s FINALLY decided to listen to other people, he is (sort of) acting decisively.

In fairness to Trump; should we really expect a guy with no background in science or medicine to fully understand the issue at hand? I mean, we can put the blame directly on him but we should probably put it on the people around him who should have known better and whose jobs are to know better. There were plenty of congressmen and senators who have been in this loop as well. I don’t think with a government such as ours you can blame one person in situations like this. There were failings all along the chain of command. I get the idea of the buck stops here but no one, Trump supporter or hater, should have realistically expected he would have any degree of competence on this matter.
Oh no doubt. But you need to be self-aware enough to realize that you don’t know everything about everything. And that’s when you must rely on those who know more than you in an area. Most of his career he’s known more than others and will tell you. He knows better than advisors, generals, doctors, etc. This was a bad time for him to continue to think he’s the smartest in the room.
You could argue he’s to blame, the American people are to blame, Congress, etc. if we were educated enough we wouldn’t have had to wait for him to take it seriously.

If this lasts for a few months, even though some people are under the impression it will be a couple of weeks, and it hits people hard economically then it could be a problem. Already reports are coming out that show how his administration downplayed things and failed to take early steps despite warnings from experts. If people believe that had he been more decisive early on and grabbed this thing by the throat it would reduced their suffering then he could be in trouble. Again, I would be surprised that people who elected him would have thought him capable in the first place. Then again, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised by that. Compare Trump’s press conferences to NY governor Cuomo. There is a huge difference. Trump is left throwing out possibilities of some miracle cure and whining about “nasty” questions while Cuomo is talking about actual actions they are taking.
Most actions that need to be taken are state actions. The fed is there to support, but the majority of decisions have to be made locally. What specifically do you think Trump should have done differently?
Here’s the way I look at it. The American people have a very short memory. In a while they will forget Trump’s initial decisions on this. He gets to do things a lot of people love. Give money directly to all. Give money or save money for all businesses. Take credit for all good news that comes from this.
Maybe more important than all that it forces him to an extent to be an actual human. To stop tweeting 24/7 about how everyone’s against him and start saying “us, we’re all in this together, a lot.” It momentarily pauses the things that most people hate most about Trump. A few months of Trump acting like he cares about all people will do a lot for his approval ratings. Trump’s ability to win the next one has always hinged on how he acts. His typical personality that most people don’t like is put on hold. I wouldn’t be surprised if his approval rating in two months isn’t up a decent tick.
First off, not be his typical effeminate self and talk about hoaxes. Any criticism has to be taken more personally than a teenage girl and divert him from the actual issue. He downplayed the seriousness of this threat to the United States. He has called this a war and himself a wartime president. OK. That means it isn’t all on the states to fight this. But we saw this war coming so we should have been ready for it. Italy, as bad as it is there, managed to confine the worst of the epidemic to one region. It’s too late for us as it is in every state. How does Texas keep it out of Texas if the fed doesn’t help? It’s all on the states? OK. Then stop taking money out of my paycheck so you can start a war half way around the world.
If this goes into June and July or even August, people will be too angry to forget. It won’t just be the loss of work and inability to go out but they may have gotten sick or know someone who did. They may know someone who died.
Things that Republicans have fought because it’s communism. I could imagine Bernie in a debate against Trump saying how Trump saved America by pulling a Sanders. Biden can say, “I told you so,” to people who call any hint of socialism bad. It changes the narrative when it comes to the wealth gap and pay in this country.
Is that what his supporters wanted? I thought they wanted John Wayne Eastwood.
