The Push to 2020 Has Begun!

This.

That’s not uncommon. That is not unique to Trump. Every president needs people loyal to them and they all ask for it. This is not unusual at all.
The mistake he made is keeping people from the Obama administration on board. Most presidents clean house when they get elected. It’s common place for a change of administrations to remove people from the previous administration and replace them with people loyal to them.

Most of the people who he has thrown under the bus have been his own. It’s the people close to him who work for him who have something come up who he suddenly “doesn’t know” or ends up saying horrid things about those people.

You and your damn facts.

This…and Jeff Sessions was, and still is, exhibit one…

Interesting development that is creating a little buzz from BOTH sides.

Biden has committed publicly to choosing a woman as a running mate.

That isn’t the interesting part. The rumors swirling around is that Trump may dump Pence in favor of a female running mate to counter.

My thoughts. While I am sure there are many capable Conservative women out there who could possibly be a choice…Haley stands out. However; I still just can’t see any advantage for her to cover herself with Trump’s bullshit for only 1 term. She simply has too much momentum in her favor for 2024 to screw that up.

On the Biden side; he may as well pack it in now if it is either Warren or Clinton (who are in the mix, believe it or not). Harris? Klobuchar? Who knows.

Thoughts on it all guys?

That’s loyalty.

None of the above. Biden is old. The idea that his VP has a good chance of becoming president is not lost on anyone. No one wanted Clinton before. Harris? You might as well choose Clinton. I think of all of those mentioned Klobuchar is the only one who would make any sense if he wants to win.

How about Biden just choose the best person for the job and who people could accept as president one day.

That would be nice, wouldn’t it Z!

2020 will go down in history for a number of reasons, that’s for sure…!

@zecarlo:

Thought.

By publicly making such an announcement; has Biden backed himself into a corner?

Or has he?

Certainly there appears to be no advantage to picking another old white guy…or in making a “Palin Pick”…but if he does not pick a woman now, is he dead in the water?

I think Coronavirus and the economy come election time will be far more important than who he picks as VP. Historically VP picks are pretty overrated and people typically ignore them for the most part. Even someone as divisive as Palin imo didn’t swing the election. Shitty economy and GWB horrid approval ratings made McCain dead in the water.

We’ve discussed this before. If Haley wants to be President I can’t think of anything worse than her going as Trump’s VP.

If she becomes Trump’s VP (assuming a Trump win), she has about a 20% chance of becoming president. I saw an actuarial analysis that put his chance of dying in office at around 20% (that may have been for the first term?).

20%+ odds are damn good IMO.

I don’t think so but it would depend on the reasons. It’s not like the woman he asks has to accept the position.

Yeah but if she becomes Trump VP she has a very low chance of being the nominee in 2024. And she could potentially be the front runner for that spot as of today. Her path to the presidency if she is VP is a Trump death. He’s old and fat so who knows. If she becomes the VP and he loses she’s toast for 2024.

To me if she wants a shot at serving two terms tying herself to him is a mistake.

This.

At THIS point (and as you guys know; 2024 is an eternity in Politics)…Haley is the overwhelming favorite by pundits from both sides (barring some “smoking gun”, which could tarnish her somewhat. But it seems to me that after Trump, it would have to be something entirely bat-shit crazy).

I just don’t see any advantage to her in becoming Trump’s VP.

It is just my opinion that if someone has over 20% chance of being president (assuming Trump win), that those odds are far better than someone who is the favorite 4 years out.

VPs have become president, and won their next election.

Do you risk it though? By taking it you need a Trump victory which is no guarantee and a Trump death. A VP spot with Trump being tied to you could be potential danger for sure in 2024 even if he wins.

Best case scenario if I’m her is staying out and a Trump loss. Even a Trump win doesn’t hurt her as badly as being VP and having to answer to Trump 2.0 questions. Recent history we had a popular president whose VP came up just short. Probably 0 chance that Trump is as popular as Clinton if he serves two terms.

It is just my opinion that being VP gives her the highest probability of being president. Biden also has a high chance of death. If he wins, his VP will have a high probability of becoming president.

Are we assuming that waiting for 2024 is not a risk? She would be paying a high opportunity cost by denying a VP position if offered, if her goal is to be president.

Maybe being president is not worth being Trump’s VP (it would not be worth it to me).

Absolutely not, @mnben87.

These would represent some political moves that are not for the faint of heart…and would probably go into the Top Ten list of Political Moves made in U.S. History.

Absolutely a risk if she is offered VP. But she controls her own destiny to an extent if she waits. If she doesn’t wait and Trumps good to go I think her odds of winning 2024 are much tougher than without him.
