Do you guys agree or not that it seems that the election comes down to Pennsylvania and Wisconsin? I don’t see Minnesota or Michigan swinging for Trump (the polling is just too bad for Trump in those states (Biden leads by about 8 and 7 respectively in those states according to 538)). Trump did do better than the polling indicated in 2016, but did not get close to overcoming 7 points (IIRC, his best was defeating a 4 point Clinton poll advantage, and he beat it by less than 1 point).
I am going off the 538 snake chart, which is a cool way of demonstrating the electoral college.
Yes, because a win in both makes his path to election so much easier.
I think the polling is wrong on both tbh. Call it an inkling, but I think Minnesota is much closer than the polling indicates, as is Michigan. If Trump picks up either one or both, it’s practically game over.
I think he has to win at least one to have a chance.
It would have to be way off for Trump to win those states. They say the polling error is about 4%. MN is at 8% Biden advantage.
Trump has pulled most of the advertising in both of these states. Meaning his campaign doesn’t think they are winnable IMO. They are also very close to out of money, so they need to be very strategic. To me that means they don’t think either are swing states. Polls are indicative, what actions the campaigns make are very telling.
Wow! What a horseshit article. It actually made me laugh that their are people so stupid they are willing to put their stupid in writing.
" According to the investigation, the Trump campaign’s goal was to dissuade them from backing the Democrat entirely by targeting them with “dark adverts” on their [Facebook] feeds, which heavily attacked Clinton and, in some cases, argued she lacked sympathy with African Americans."
So the ‘bombshell’ here is that Trump ran campaign ads. Yeah, so?
This is what the ‘soft bigotry of low expectations’ looks like in person. The big mean Orangeman ran campaign ads on this poor, helpless population who clearly cannot think for themselves. This means Trump victimized poor, dumb people with his ads and it worked! Burn him at the stake.
Biden is winning in the polls, are they really that desperate that they are going to attack a presidential campaign for targeted ads? What are they afraid of? Why was this article even written?
You know, I bet the Clinton campaign made anti-Trump ads and targeted areas they believed vulnerable too. And? This is so dumb. We live in the ‘Upside-down’.
This year, anything is possible. We could end up with Nancy Pelosi as president, by the end of it.
I donno maybe he’s sensitive about his privacy? Maybe he doesn’t feel like it. Maybe he likes to fuck with the media and the establishment. Or maybe, like he originally said, he’s under audit and couldn’t. Up until that point, he was a private citizen, so his tax returns are private.
If it’s not a big deal to release tax returns, then why don’t you post yours right here? Let us take a look and see if you are on the up and up?
So somebody got paid a ton of money and leaked his taxes. And what did they show?
Anything illegal? Not a tax expert, but from what I saw, no.
Russia collusion? Nope.
Anything of real note? I guess if you hate rich people who don’t have to pay a lot of taxes, sure. But, it’s the system you need to be mad at. Bezos, Gates, Oprah, Zucker, Zuckerburg, etc. are all super rich people who manage not to pay hardly anything in taxes.
Congress needs to fix that, its not on rich people to deliberately pay more than they have to.
So the story in the NYT “bombshell” starts with this: “Donald J. Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes the year he won the presidency. In his first year in the White House, he paid another $750.”
But read further and you get this: "Each time, he requested an extension to file his 1040; and each time, he made the required payment to the I.R.S. for income taxes he might owe — $1 million for 2016 and $4.2 million for 2017. "
So, $750 bucks is what he owed, but in that same time frame he paid $5.2 million in advance for future taxes?
This is all from that same article, which, damn you, you made me read to find out what the massive melt down is over.
So conclusion, Trump owed $750 bucks each year for 2016-2017, totaling $1500 dollars, right? But in that same time period, he paid the IRS $5.2 million dollars, to pre-pay for future tax debts that might occur. These are the facts, as the NYT reported them.
So which is it he paid a total of $5,201,500 in total to the IRS, or just $1500. Looks to me President Trump, overpaid, the bastard!
Or is the psychoses, based on the tax code that lets rich people get away with virtually paying no taxes?
I am down with fixing the tax code and closing or eliminating these loop holes to make uber-rich people pay their fair share. But I cannot get pissed off about a guy who does the same thing every other person in that position does.
Here’s the thing about a “bombshell”, it only works if there is a bomb in the shell. If you just drop the shell, it goes ‘splat’ not ‘boom’.
Come on pat. That’s a terrible argument. The guy was in the spotlight for 50 years before this, and he ran a very public and personal attack based campaign.
Besides which, EVERY candidate for office is a private citizen until they decide to run for public office. That is also a non-starter.
An audit does not prevent you from releasing your tax returns. Seriously. It was a bad excuse when he gave it and patently untrue, and it’s still bad now.
It has been standard practice for. EVERY POTUS since Nixon. That’s a shitty excuse dude. You’re not arguing anything effective - if it was good enough for every other candidate it’s good enough for him. You are arguing that he should be exceptional, not that he should abide by the norms that we expect everyone else to.
I don’t buy that, and nobody else should either.
I saw a bunch of things that were probably red flags and potentially fraudulent.
To me polls Covid makes it all too unpredictable. I believe polls still have value of course but we have no idea what Election Day is going to look like and turnout. It’s hard to predict in normal times. During a pandemic it’s hardly worth discussing. It’s the ultimate wild card.
Oh boy, Project Veritas dropped part 2. It shows actual money changing hands…
I would love to see Omar taken away in handcuffs, but I believe she will be protected by the establishment.
It’s starting to gain some traction. If it’s true it will take a few days before the story blows up. It at least needs to be investigated. They are paying for ballots. That’s illegal.
The same people defending Trump for not releasing his tax returns would have flipped out with Obama doing the same thing. They flipped out over all of his other stuff.
They are defending him even though we know for an absolute fact why Trump didn’t release them. It’s embarrassing to him.
I don’t understand why Pat and some of these people can’t just call it what it is. It’s like they have decided they have to defend him on everything no matter what and will do everything hint to so it.
I have issues with the article myself. On a broader level I expect targeted ads but my concern is with propaganda and ads discouraging people not to vote.
In Britain we had the infamous 350 million a week ad for brexit. I completely disagree with this type of misinformation and therefore propaganda.
The article states that they are unable to find record of many of the ads as Facebook won’t release them. It’s this quote that worries me as a member of a democracy
The company said that “since 2016, elections have changed and so has Facebook – what happened with Cambridge Analytica couldn’t happen today”. It added that it now has “rules prohibiting voter suppression” and was “running the largest voter information campaign in American history
This is what pisses me off too. It’s a blatant double standard. If it was good for Obama to release his birth certificate, then it is damn sure good for Trump to release the tax returns.
I didn’t make an ‘argument’ I said I don’t know. That, out of context, quote wasn’t what I was claiming. I don’t know why he didn’t want to do it. I was throwing out wild speculation.
As long as he didn’t do anything actually illegal, I do not care. It may be shady, but the tax law is full of loopholes.
I can’t speculate as to why he didn’t want to release his tax forms. He just didn’t want to as far as I know. Now that we have them, there isn’t really any thing unexpected or illegal. Rich people move money around to avoid taxes. If I had the means, I would do it too. I don’t want to pay a cent more than I have to.
And you’re a fair guy, why are you taking my quotes out of context like that? I expect that crap from others, not you. You know, in context, the statements are completely different then you made it sound.
Fair enough, I don’t know, not a tax expert.
And that’s a bad excuse as well. So what? He violated a tradition that Nixon of all people started. One of the most crooked politicians in history. That being the case, then, what do tax returns really show? Clearly showing your returns does not prove one to be incorrupt.
No, I am arguing that unless he did something illegal, I don’t care. If he did do something illegal, he should be prosecuted like everyone else.
Potentially? If it’s not actually, I do not care.
What about Ihan Omar? It appears she is involved in a ‘pay to vote scheme’. Isn’t that a little bigger deal than potential money shell games?
