Cambridge analytica using personal data. They’ve stung many democracies.
I also think there is a greater chance of the many of the 2016 voters who have had enough of trump and all his corruption to silently slip out and vote for Biden.
If trump has nothing illegal to hide in his taxes why doesn’t he just release them like most other candidates and more importantly like he said he would? Oh yeah, they are under audit? Just another one of his many, many lies. An audit does not prevent someone from releasing their taxes .
Remember, al Capone killed many people but they couldn’t get anything to stick on him but one case of tax fraud. In the end that will get trump also.
Interestingly, four years ago the Portuguese writer Bruno Macaes floated an interesting idea that the success of Trump’s shtick is due to the fact that he actually role plays the role of a billionaire as it is imagined by blue collar people
When an average person imagines a billionaire, he/she doesn’t think of Bill Gates’s sweater and shirt combo, Mike Bloomberg’s strange intensity or Bezos’ comical attempt at projecting masculinity - they think of a man surrounded by gaudy golden ornaments and attractive women, doing some vague “business”.
So he’s actually a performer, playing the modern version of the comical, over-the-top vaudeville villain.
See, I agree with you here. I think it’s perfectly rational to try to reduce tax burden as much as you can, and I do as well.
That wasn’t why I was interested in the relax returns. I was more interested in the debt load, the shady mechanisms to get tax breaks - if not outright improper, which I believe a number are - and let’s face it a 72 million dollar refund for abandoning a stake that you didn’t actually abandon?? Come on.
The tax returns weren’t about collusion per se (with me). But a large debt load and large/numerous conflicts of interest are serious things that should have been public so there could be questions asked. Like, you know, every other presidential candidate since Nixon. National security is potentially compromised with a person so far down in debt.
I think so yes, and that’s a solid win in my book.
Same kinda boat with me.
This actually makes a ton of sense. I never thought of it that way.
Minneapolis PD are investigating the O’Keefe allegations now.
This makes a ton of sense. I remember some comedian years ago said the reason this performance works is because Trump is what a poor person imagines a rich person would like look like - power ties, boardroom scenes, over the top extravagnaces, etc.
I think that’s oversimplifying (who are “poor people”?) but there’s a kernel of truth - look at the number of people, poor or not, who believed it and their point of reference was basically nothing more than the scripted imagery of “The Apprentice”.
So there’s no doubt now eh? We are officially a full fledged banana republic. What should happen is that Trump should have to explain whether he’s:
A: a great businessman who makes a lot of money - which would mean he’s a tax cheat and should go to jail for tax evasion.
B: a full on failure at pretty much everything he’s ever had his hands on for more than a few years - in which case he’s probably still a tax cheat based on what we now know. Oh I forgot - he is good at convincing 30% of the country that he’s God’s gift to the country so there is that.
The national security implications of Trump’s financial situation are staggering. In addition to those, now there’s not only his megalomania that will make him try to stay in office at all costs but also his legal/financial troubles that will begin if he loses the election and if forced out of office. He’s going to hang on to the White House by any means necessary no matter what the costs to the country are.
This has been floated before but best case scenario is that he resigns and tries to have Pence pardon him.
Are we?
What has led you to this conclusion?
LOL! There’s really no point in responding as you’re part of the 30%. A true believer.
Take a look at the current news cycle in regard to Trump’s tax situation for an answer to your question. There’s way to much there to type and as I said there’s no logic, reason or evidence that will sway those who are under his spell. Weird.
Yes, yes. The Kool-Aid is delicious.
What is the source for the information that’s led you to this conclusion? Can you explain why you find it trustworthy?
Unrelated, but I think it would be really appropriate if we could somehow get Fred Willard to provide color commentary for tomorrow’s debate.
I was thinking more about these guys:

No, nice try but I’ll pass on this conversation with you. As I said, there’d be no point. I’ve prayed to St. Jude before and it didn’t seem to work.
On another note I like your suggestion for color commentary tomorrow night!
I was thinking about Trump’s placement on Mount Rushmore. He should start a new one with him, Carrera, Noriega, and a Somoza (take your pic).
I understand. I wish you luck in your days ahead in the Banana Republic.
Like I wrote before, an actor:
Just wanted to pose this to you again.
Hadn’t Saudi Arabia (or some other Oil Well with a Country on Top) already bailed Trump out before by buying some of his distressed properties or something?
Pelosi is doing much more than just political posturing when she states that a President in debt can pose a security risk depending on who the debt is owed to…
I would invite people to read of the Life of Phineas Taylor (“PT”) Barnum.
The similarities with Trump are staggering…down to the fact that Barnum also switched from being a Democrat to being a Republican…
Both KSA and UAE
Speaking of NatSec, imagine a following scenario.
In a dark conference room, politicians, military officers and intelligence agents of Azerbaijan are huddled together anxiously poring over maps, pondering whether to start a war that would entangle Russia, Turkey and Iran, and set the Caucasus and Middle East on fire
.
Suddenly, a voice full of anguish cries out “but what about the Americans? what will they do if we attack?!”
After five seconds of total silence, a reassuring voice weighs in “Don’t worry, we took out fifty rooms for two weeks in a Trump owned hotel. We’ll be fine”
