The Push to 2020 Has Begun!

I was making a joke, calm down. Geez, sense of humor is in rare supply these days.

War monger! Trump wins Kosovo’s highest honor…

“President Hashim Thaci awarded Trump with Kosovo’s Order of Freedom “for his exceptional contribution for the freedom of Kosovo and the strengthening of Peace and reconciliation in the region.

That animal! Orange-man bad!

Heh, I posted the Israel, UAE, Bahrain agreements in the Geo thread. Nothing much.

Let’s watch the heads of the radical left spin off their narrow shoulders. Trump nominated not once, but twice for Nobel Peace Prize!

I know, I know, but putting them all together, I think amplifies how much good Trump has actually done. All those, ‘Trump’s foreign policy is abysmal.’ types, have to deal with the fact that he’s done what no American President has been able to even sniff for over 25 years. Make legit real peace deals in the Middle East and in Kosovo. Is making legit peace deals in the most tense regions in the world ‘bad foreign policy’?

lol… The predictable backlash. ‘The Scandinavian people are trash!’ is the argument.
Of course, the prize meant nothing to me when Yasser Arafat got it. But they love that, but NOW it’s a bad thing…

Not by any stretch.but it’s also not ALL foreign policy is.

For the record I am skeptical the Israel peace means anything concrete when everything in that region is concerned. However, it’s always good when the House of Saud bickers amongst themselves as it appears some of the royal family are doing.

You think it’s just the Republicans who have changed their tune?

"We hope the saner heads in the Republican Party will prevail on Mitch McConnell to do their job and hold hearings so America can make its own judgment as to whether Merrick Garland belongs on the court.”–Chuck Schumer

“Evaluating and confirming a Justice to sit on this nation’s highest court should not be an exercise in political brinkmanship and partisan posturing. It is a serious obligation … That obligation does not depend on the party affiliation of a sitting president, nor does the Constitution make an exception to that duty in an election year.”–Hillary Clinton

“Senators have a constitutional obligation to advise and consent on a nominee to fill this Supreme Court vacancy and, simply put, we have a responsibility to do our jobs as elected officials.”–Joe Manchin

Well that’s what is supposed to happen typically. Why wouldn’t you fill a seat almost a year before an election? But like Lindsey Graham said they were the ones who set the precedent. And so now (one would think) that would be what happens from now on.

But it’s simple to change. It was simple to not care about the debt or elect someone who didn’t have a problem with government healthcare. Just needed an R beside the person and not a D.

Kosovo - Serbia wasn’t a peace deal. What they signed is a hastily cobbled together document by Trump’s special envoy Richard Grenell who made it publicly clear it’s just a PR ploy for the US election campaign. Hence the tiny tables to make Trump look big.

Presidents of Serbia and Kosovo were brought into the WH to sign a otherwise meaningless document whose only important clause was relocation of their respective embassies to Jerusalem, something the President of Serbia found out rather late.

As far as Kosovo highest honor is concerned…They have a statue of Bill Clinton in their capital - which the Trump administration hasn’t overlooked - and are desperate to make amends with another meaningless gesture.

Bahrain is a dictatorship in which a tiny Sunni elite is oppressing majority Shiites, and that’s not including the slaves/servants who make up a half of the population. So it’s simply that the Gulf theocracies are jumping on board the anti-Shiite MBS train supported by this administration.

As I’ve said in the Geo thread, a war is coming and the US will be doing all the fighting.

If it’s such garbage, why couldn’t the Obama administration do it? Because they were worse? Because they dropped more bombs than the Bush admin?

So I guess Trump sucks, and his predecessors sucked worse…

Because they tried to avoid war with Iran. You know, that thing called the “Iran Nuclear Deal”.

There’s no obligation to consent, Joey.

Trump is good…DAMN good…

Seems like Biden is going to get out-PR’d almost every day leading up to the election.

Concerning the “Peace” Deal:

“Serbia still does not recognize Kosovo’s independence but it allows economic cooperation, rail and transit links, and the free movement of people and goods between the two countries”.

Sounds like a mutually beneficial Trade Agreement to me, @loppar

Not a bad thing…until they decide to escalate the killing (that has never really completely stopped…)

You have debased yourself yet again. These folks were arguing for regular order on a SCOTUS nomination in 2016. They didn’t change their tune, they’re insisting the GOP stay consistent on their made-up rule.

So they still think the Senate should go ahead and vote on the nominee before the election, just like they thought it should have in 2016?

Of course not - the precedent has been set by the GOP-controlled Senate. So having set that precedent, it should be followed in the next election.

Serious question - how unprincipled are you? The Democrats called for regular order in 2016, the in-control GOP deviated from it for pure political gain and created a new (made-up) exception, but now the shoe is on the other foot in 2020, whne the GOP still controls the Senate, and the Democrats insist on consistency on the exception even though the GOP stands to lose on on it, and you claim, no, really, the GOP just needs to follow what the Democrats insisted on in 2016.

Embarrassing. So, no shame at all?

Curious as to if vituperation is an effective method of swaying opinion in the legal or interpersonal world.

It sucks in the chat room space.

Problem is, he’s right. In order for a country to ultimately be successful in running under the rule of law long term, one has to observe the norms even when they’re not politically beneficial. They can’t be made up to suit your party when they’re in charge, and then changed back on a whim because you want something. That’s the kind of thing a 7th grader does.

I am much happier (overall) with Gorsuch and Kav than I would have been Garland. However, you shouldn’t be changing standards. And if you changed once because of principles…well then stick with those principles when they potentially cost you. Otherwise they’re not principles and it’s a sham.

The Republican party has lost me as a voter on the national level for two reasons. First, because I found out that the principles of government and economics I have - which I thought they shared and they pronounced loudly for years that they had as centerpieces - mysteriously began disappearing when Trump came to office.

Second, because I for years felt that in general the GoP was more principled than the party of Pelosi and left most of the shenanigans to the Dems, going back to the 90s. This has also been shown to be false, as they have decided to thumb their noses at established norms to get their way (and this is far from the only time). Unfortunately, this sets a precedent that the Dems will follow as soon as they have power, and that will inevitably deteriorate.

Stick to the decisions you made, or don’t. But if you decide not to, then don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining.
