How dare you expect adults to exercise good judgment.
You really believe both cases are the same after watching the videos of both? The fact that one shooter actually tried to retreat before a pursuer fired a gun behind is the same as actively searching out and converging on someone wearing the wrong? Alright man. We’ll have to disagree.
You’re right though, it should never have gotten here. Time for mayors and governors to shut this crap down. Get them all off the streets.
No, they are not even close. The kid was in the wrong on many levels and bears some responsibility for what happened, but he wasnt out to there just to kill. I would imagine the person who shot the patriot prayer dude in PDX was out for violence purely. But right wingers see antifa shooting them and getting away with it, and antifa sees rightwingers shooting them and getting away with it. Its easy enough to get away with for people with bad intentions, and smart to come packing if you just want to protect yourself. Everyone will have guns, and the gun nut mantra of “an armed society is a safe society” will get put to the test.
I actually do agree the guns need to go. But that means law enforcement has to be given the go to protect our property. The end of night after night burning and looting is long past due. Curfew it up. But we don’t get to say the patriot prayer, proud boys, or whatever are causing trouble on day 90 of violent rioting because they decide to show up.
Do you think the fact that he is a registered sex offender would be admitted at trial to prove self-defense? Yes or no?
It could be, if the prosecutor brings up character.
But that wasn’t the point and you know it. You’re deflecting from having to answer why you give a man with a history of violence the benefit of the doubt.
That is melodramatic. Statistically, the right wingers have never done this on a wide scale.
I agree it should never have escalated to this. The problem, however, is not the “gun crazy country”. The problem is that your favored approach to the riots was bad, and doomed to failure. This is the logical outgrowth of your favored policy position (de-escalate, have the police leave the area to not trigger any protestors, etc.).
It is the shit poor job of the politician’s appeasement and their complete lack of support for police responders and prosecution that led to this escalation on a wide scale.
All because of Trump. They blame him for the riots but they didn’t blame Obama for Ferguson or Baltimore. Maybe Trump should have said Floyd could have been his son.
This. Help should have been accepted from Feds/Guard in order to overwhelm and clear the streets after some curfew. Something. This was always going to happen just standing back. I don’t understand how this wasn’t a predictable outcome. Cripes, people had already died in these riots before Rittenhouse ever fired the first shot.
The problem is not separating the federal government from the president.
Incorrect - for a number of reasons, but in any event, the prosecutor can’t introduce character as evidence of guilt.
No, it’s exactly the point - whether this kid is guilty or not will be decided on admissible, relevant evidence, of which the deceased’s sex offenses are not a part. You just want to raise this to suggest he “deserved” it because he’s bad people.
His character isn’t at issue on whether he gets the benefit of the doubt - the facts that night are.
This was always a political impossibility because Trump is…well Trump. Under the last two presidents there may have been the possibility of quietly asking for help and having the POTUS stay quiet, and you could save some face as a democrat mayor/gov. But Trump tweets everything and would love nothing more than to rub your face in any request for help. So that was out.
However, they COULD have given their police departments active support or at least clear authority rather than taking it away and belittling them.
I personally think that requesting federal help would have been better for a couple reasons, but it wasn’t going to happen. Realistically the local and state forces could have handled it if they weren’t being actively demonized and leashed.
What’s one more hush money payment?
This is EXACTLY the problem. But Trump also did his best to make it that way as well.
The character of the dead criminal. If he says, “he was a mostly peaceful protester on his way to church.”
You have declared him guilty. Why?
But yet, you have made characterizations about the 17 year old that you have deemed relevant to the issue.
Again I ask, why is it so hard for you to believe that three violent criminals would commit a crime?
Weird that the Ferguson and Baltimore riots were short lived under Obama. Meanwhile our current POTUS has a large stake in these riots continuing and shockingly has handled it in such a way as to invite and foment riots. trump did what he could to keep the riots going as they only help him in the election so he contradicted, prodded, trolled and gaslighted not only protesters and rioters, but the local authorities as well.
this feels almost like our response to covid in that we had the right idea at the local level in many places, but POTUS just couldnt keep himself from contradicting all the good advice, offering up his own bullshit and creating a piss poor disjointed response that had bad results.

I agree for the most part but that’s no excuse for the local and state handling of the riots.
Hopefully this isn’t a trend ItemFix - Social Video Factory
Let Stipe Miocic lunge at you.
He did. It wasn’t fun. Since we’re at it, Crocop is a narcissistic piece of shit that KOd Stipe with a sucker punch during supposed light sparring and then bragged about it to his ass kissing entourage.
But I digress.
It could be, if the prosecutor brings up character
As a general rule, bringing up character is a mug’s play. It is what’s known as ‘dropping the shield.’
Edit: we all know what the defence teams case is.
- He was in Wisconsin with a legal weapon.
- He was set upon by a mob which shot at him first.
- The accused used lethal force against 3 attackers as he reasonably feared for his life in the circumstances.
The prosecution’s case will be to rebut those defences, in part or in total.
At this point we are all basing our opinions on media coverage, which will obviously paint an incomplete picture.
I definitely agree with this. There’s no excuse for the poor handling of the rioting. Their judgment has been compromised by the concern about Trump politicizing the help from the feds - and he would - but their first responsibility is to protect their people and property and worry about politics later.
