Racist.

I mean this is pretty obvious stuff. You don’t want to tell someone with zero emotional control potentially upsetting information in general. When they aren’t rational and might start a war withholding things seems expected.

“That’s adorable, really”.

Thank goodness there are some sane people still left in there.

I don’t know anything about Sasse, but I love this response to Trump’s ire. (Originally gotten from an article on “The Hill”)

Kamala Harris for VP pick, JFC. Did he really need to shore up the Dem vote in checks notes California?

Hopefully, it’s a wink, wink to law enforcement since, supposedly, she was tough on crime.

That is honestly the only explanation that makes sense to me. Her share of the black vote was never high, and she called him a racist in the debates.

I don’t know which of them is eating more crow with this pick.

Cliches are cliches because they’re often true.

Politics makes strange bedfellows.

Why does she identify as African-American? Her mother was Indian and her father is Jamaican. She is no different than Obama who wasn’t African-American either.

Political credibility, I suppose. Her Dad wasn’t a giant fan of her ‘I love Snoop dog and weed’ interview anyway.

Man, this election is shaping up to be comedy gold.

If Biden wins, Harris will be President…

…well, at least we’ll have a President fully willing, and probably highly desirous, of telling Zombie Pelosi to go F herself. I’m more optimistic now!!!

She actually ticks a decent amount of boxes (we could argue about how necessary those boxes are of course) in some areas that you could argue Biden is weak in. For the most part the general thinking with VP picks isn’t really based on their state of origin. This may be a play potentially if you were picking between two candidates and one was super popular in a battleground state, but on the whole where the VP pick is from is fairly irrelevant. You would always take a great pick regardless of where they are at over an average one who happened to be in a battleground or red state.

The well this person said “x” about the candidate and now they are running together. How will you explain that?! This is pretty typically overplayed on the whole as well. It’s quite common for candidates to pick someone who ran against them historically just as it’s common for candidates to pick someone who endorsed someone else. Sure it may lead to a few attack ads and some initial messy press conferences, but on the whole hasn’t really kept someone from being successful. That said the whole accuser part may have some teeth to it as that’s a bit more harsh than a typical “this guy/gal wants to invade Russia!”

I’m saying all this about VP picks in general and not necessarily this specific one as a strength. To be honest I’m not super familiar with her background at all. But the two things I mentioned are pretty typical “issues” for VP picks in the US that historically haven’t shown to make a significant difference. What will be far more interesting is how hard the Trump campaign will hit and how successfully on if they think she is weak to say you might like Biden but she could be yours.

They will certainly talk about how horrible she is the next few days as that’s standard when someone picks a VP, but will be curious how much they think hitting him by hitting her will be effective. Historically attacking the VP as a main strategy isn’t that fruitful leaving out something like Sarah Palin who largely hurt herself. Even that I think was overrated in terms of people saying it cost McCain. I think it certainly hurt him but I would reject the idea that McCain with someone else wouldn’t have been a fairly big underdog simply because the Republican brand in 08 was hurt big time from GWB.

But if the Trump team has evidence that attacks on Biden aren’t effective (and I think so far they have to think they have been limited based on Biden’s polling) then really swinging on whoever he picked would make sense. Trumps really not in a spot right now where he can say “keep the good times rolling” so the strategy needs (and will) shift towards “you definitely don’t want her or him even if you don’t like me.”

I don’t think the next couple of days are that important as polling can shift quite a bit and the attacks will be numerous, but we might have a better idea a few weeks from now if this really hurts him or has limited effect.

Agreed. I’m not sure how much Veep picks ever hurt or help, if I’m honest. I’m only here for the memes:

Better VP pick.
