And, we’re presently having a loud and violent debate about some of these past presidents as their memorials are toppled. How…
Edit: I mean, I’m opposed to erasing our history, but clearly there were racist Presidents. I mean, this is a guy whose 4th of July message was about the US never living up to its ideals. Yeah, how?
Federal officers can’t arrest people without probable cause that a federal crime has been committed. Meaning, they can’t arrest or detain troublemakers on the street unless they have specific info that person committed or was about to commit an act to destroy federal property.
Some loser about to toss a bottle atcthe courthouse? Yep, go get him. Some rowdy group of radicals in the street generally causing a ruckus? Nope - no authority.
And that’s the complaint. The feds can (and should) protect federal property from these idiots - but no, they can’t “step into the shoes” of local authorities just because they don’t like the response of local authorities.
Rule of law. We don’t suspend it because the reality television president wants footage of his goons restoring “law and order” and skull cracking some “radical leftists” (scare quotes because no one is entirely sure what the makeup of these groups are).
But what’s unlawful under federal law and what isn’t? Read my previous post. The feds don’t have jurisdiction to step in a start handling civil unrest outside of specific threats to federal property.
Don’t worry, The NY Times is a fringe newsletter with a limited circulation and tiny readership. No way it could influence political discourse in this country.
Who said they don’t have probable cause? Most of these political detainees are all over social media. Also, suspicion is probable cause to detain someone. And there is difference between questioning someone and arresting them. The argument could be made that questioning needs to take place in a safer environment and not on the streets surrounded by violent criminals.
Apparently you didn’t watch the video, because everything you have said, including your nonsense about unidentified officers, was addressed in the video I posted above. You’ve also called federal officers a goon squad and stated that they have no authority. All of that is addressed in the video. If you had an integrity you would address that, but you’ve continued with your usual hyperbolic nonsense.
As far as your strawman attack of me as a Trump supporter, no need to offer an internet appology. I know that’s just your usual shtick.
I mean, the video provides a direct quote of the statute(s) providing these Federal law enforcement the power to investigate off of federal property. Is he lying? Is he making it up out of whole cloth and these words simply do not exist ?
Goon squad? Men who have to face this violence night after night while Wheeler holds back local law enforcement, stranding them to hold the line on their own? Goon squad?
These men are heroes. And they deserve our gratitude.
Yes, but not for the reasons proposed by the podcast. Not in an absolute sense, but in a relative sense “nice white parents” have kids who on average raise the mean of the bell curve, and make under achieving children look like failures.
Whoever wins this cycle, I hope it is a miserably low turnout that barely pushes the winner over the edge. I hope it is so bad that there is no denying the American people have lost all faith in their institutions. Despising both parties and their nominees. I wish we all would stay home. A no vote.
They make under achievers of any race look like failures and set a goal for those of any race who are achievers. They are an example of what’s possible.
The ugly truth is that inner city schools do not fail; inner city communities fail. The residents are incapable of creating an environment that nurtures a future generation of stable, non violent, educated citizens with morals and values. Past systemic racism is one cause of this but fighting racism is not the solution.
But you’ve implied, repeatedly that they are acting outside of their authority and they are not. So what is your problem with the federal government sending in more federal officers, “goons” as you describe them, to defend a federal building under seige by a mob of violent criminals?
I purposely left it as “under achieving children”, as there are plenty of white under achievers too. I was one of them. I almost failed 10th grade Algebra, and was in special ed English. This had nothing to do with ability, as I got all As in 4 semesters of college Calculus, and went on to get a ME degree. It was laziness, and not being interested in the subject. My parents did try to motivate me, but I was pretty stubborn. For me, wanting to learn was what flipped the switch.
I still suck at English though. Just not that interested in getting every comma, semi colon, or every word spelled correctly. As long as people understand what I am saying, I am good with it.
We can crack some few hippie cranium and just whistle past the Constitution, aye? It’s good Tv, after all.
I hate to resort to this, but I will, because it deserves it - imagine if Obama had done it. Imagine if Obama had loosed federal officers using excessive force and ignoring probable cause in interacting with these radicals - these pages would be on fire with calls to arms to depose the dictator.
Tell me, what does y’all’s level of cognitive dissonance feel like - whiplash?
I described it above, more than once, read up - they absolutely can and should defend federal property. What they can’t do is engage in general policing and they can’t arrest people otherwise without probable cause. And the ones that do are acting like goons.
