The Push to 2020 Has Begun!

Where is this a policy being proposed and/or considered?

Do you also get this uptight when people tell you that you need to fill your gas tank up, or need to quiet down in the library, or need to not be such a troll?

What privilege exactly?

What is: White?

aaaaand this thread has been successfully steered away from discussing trumps shitty divisive tweet today, and towards an argument about BLM, white privilege, and trolling seattlites.

No, I’m genuinely curious to learn which concrete examples of privilege you had to acknowledge. I’m not being sarcastic.

Ones i shared there and have here before involve being treated better by cops than my black buddy i was with on a couple different occasions in a couple different states. The classic interview callback “study” where white names got called back more often than black names, not being followed by employees in stores who think im shoplifting, etc. The fact by virtue of being born white i had a higher chance of not being born poor.

Most were small things where, because the color of my skin i received the benefit of the doubt where a black person would not.

U of Houston was on the leading edge of white guilt er diversity recognition. Classes began by denouncing Western Civilization. Every graduate, regardless of discipline, was required to take 6 hours as a core requirement.

This was in 1984 - basically the lifetime of the readers here.

Their website.

Not the same as being told how to think.

So no where of importance. got it.

You need to not be such a troll.

You know what’s the problem with this concept? It implicitly assumes that not being treated like crap is “privileged” instead of “normal”. So the end goal is not to improve the treatment and discrimination of POC but to subject white people to seemingly the same and arbitrary injustices because they’ve been privileged for too long.

In other words, the baseline is set in the wrong place, and that’s intentional.

For the record, this is astute observation was succinctly encapsulated in a collection of essays by the (half-black for the identity crowd) critic and author Thomas Williams.

When you have no faith in your position just play the troll card.

I’m going with divisive, but right. I’m against conciliatory, but wrong.

Definitely my character flaw, I’m sure.

Note that it requires you to not be viewed by others and by yourself as an individual. It is dehumanizing.

Well, when you are in a pool of 100 candidates for a job and 30 candidates are immediately tossed out b/c of skin color that sure does privilege the remaining 70 compared to if they had to compete against the full 100.

Normally you are pretty on point, but i have ZERO idea where you got this from. This is not my experience being around SJWs at all. The goal isnt to bring down white folks, it is to make sure that POCs gain equality by improving their treatment to that of how white folks are treated.

The civilization that ended slavery and had the concept of human rights before any other. I had a professor who met a former slave in Saudi Arabia… in the 60s.

Why is it an either or though? Is your standard for POTUS that low?

They could start by not killing each other.

So we shouldnt study statistics because it doesnt look at individuals? Its dehumanizing? youre reaching.

What if it’s a job as a basketball player?

When you are told you are the sum of your privileges, it is dehumanizing. It means your pain and suffering can never be as deep as a minority or woman or lbgtqetc.

Of course it is.

To pile on the Marxist hate, this is a clear tool of social conditioning.

In normal human interactions we call this sort of thing “sharing human experiences”, and we treasure it. We write about it in books, sing about it, speak about it, perhaps even shout about it on the streets. That’s all great, in my opinion. That’s part of why I and so many others have been such a fan of things like books and film and other art from people all over the world. You get to take in all of that as you choose.

When you begin shoving your ideas down someone else’s throat, whether they like it or not, you’re no longer sharing your human experience in good faith.

You are, of course, free to embrace all of the Marxism that you want. Spread it to others, even. We might shake our heads at you, but we won’t come after you. A true liberal will not require you to apologize for your political beliefs, let alone any immutable characteristic, because we value equal protection under the law and all of the social and cultural implications that holds.

I find it odd to look at Trump as any kind of bastion of freedom, but here we are in 2020.
