I would agree, and it’s something many on the conservative spectrum have also said. Of course, they weren’t listened to because they were right of center.
I don’t think most politicians would have a prayer of getting away with that strategy either. Trump is Trump, he can get away with things that would bury most sane pols
It depends how cynical you are, I suppose. Generally speaking, for me, the answer is yes. I’m wary of anyone who claims to use the levers of government to solve this or that specific social or cultural problem. Don’t consider this a deconstruction of Biden’s entire policy platform, because I’ve not read through the entire set of nonsense. Joe Biden has spent his whole life in the highest halls of government being a so-called “champion” of so-called “progressive causes”, but who is better off because of any of it?
Over time we’ve found many instances with very compelling evidence that doing nothing at all would have been a lot better than putting an elected official’s plan into action. This is a possibility I think we should always entertain.
We are, quite literally, surrounded by man-made policy disasters of varying magnitudes at this very moment. A small percentage of that can be attributed to Trump, but most of our policy nightmares have been unfolding for a lot longer than he’s been an elected official. It is not as if some oceanic force or cosmic radiation compelled us to get where we are right now. Humans did this.
We voted for it.
This.
I don’t think that’s a bad outlook but again the thing for me is the comparison with a binary choice. It seems as if two people are running for President and one says I want to do (fill in the blanks) and the other says I want to do (fill in the blanks) then hammering the one with the plan because of the plan seems odd. I’ll take “here’s why this is a problem and here’s what I would” do over here’s why this is a problem and I won’t tell you what I will do but you need to believe me I will do it.” One is at least attempting to explain how. The other wants to know if you believe in magic.
Again as I’ve said the Democrats are the stupid ones saying how. You can pick apart how. You can’t do that with magic. You can’t pick apart plans that don’t exist. Republicans didn’t demand plans from Trump. They didn’t scratch their heads and say well damn covering everyone for cheaper health care sounds really hard let me ask him how. They didn’t want to know how he would make debt go away. They just needed to buy into the magic.
No doubt. Trump didn’t start the fire or anything. Just like Obama didn’t or GWB or Clinton, etc. If we’re in a pickle now I can’t think of anyone less suited to lead us than the President. I also don’t think the current situations are all policy nightmares but many human ones. We haven’t just voted for it we’ve became it. And doing the same thing won’t stop it.
They did not, going all the way back to the GOP Primaries where Trump decimated the field.
I don’t see that, mainly because the Twitter mob doesn’t equal the voting populace. The (momentary) fever pitch of the Left won’t erode the Democratic voting bloc materially. Biden so far has steered an unexciting but safe path through the current rage of the Left, and I don’t see him jeopardized by that.
On top of that, Biden is getting help - lots of help - from sane Republicans who are organizing and messaging against Trump.
I suppose that’s so, @thunderbolt23.
Sadly (in most cases) there is this huge furor and protest…then nothing…resulting in little if any change.
(Can anybody say “Occupy Wall Street”?)
Hard to say silent Biden navigating.
More like hunkered down in the bottom of the boat, carried on the whims of the current.
Leftists are all for policing words and thoughts, while against policing actions.
Nutty.
No wonder the White House doesn’t want this book published.
There’s lots to unpack in this book, but in the WSJ interview Trump did, Trump noted that Bolton was against the idea of shutting down travel with China to prevent spread of COVID-19.
Bolton left the administration months before the pandemic occurred.
Stable genius.
Trump was going to surround himself with the best people. Generals become dopes, idiots, losers. Does Trump not realize that it’s not a good look for him to hire people and then afterwards talk about how moronic they are and incompetent.?
I can’t imagine working for such a baby. And I can’t imagine how satisfying stopping working for him must have been for these people.
Nope. But for most thinking people outside politics hiring one “moron” is a mistake, while hiring ALL morons means the boss is an idiot (or doesn’t have any idea what he wants).
I’m surprised many hung on as long as they did. Probably out of a sense of duty to avoid disaster.
I’ve seen those but never had one. A buddy down in the Austin area used to swear by them.
And who knows what else will happen on a Friday, but here is your “conservative”, “swamp draining” president - plummeting in the polls - attempting to reverse that trend by promising to give out government cash:
You believe engaging in road construction with Department Of Transportation funds is a hypocritical position for a conservative to hold?
Are you expecting him to make #abolishDOT #defundtheroads #privateroadwaysforUSA a policy position for some reason?
I don’t have any issue with infrastructure spending. In fact, I think it is seriously needed.
This infrastructure spending includes RI and WA, 2 states Trump wouldn’t win if he passed out million $ checks per person. So i think you have chosen weak example.
But Army offering up Vindmann for promotion, after not obeying chain of command, disobeying order of superior, and leaking classified info? That’s odious.
The only thing I see is that 5/7 of the projects are in red or battle ground states. That is likely reading into it more than I should. I find it hard with Trump to not look for political motivation in his actions as that has been the main driver of the Trump administration.
IMO, we should go all in on infrastructure. It will help with unemployment, and will spur future growth.
