They’re douchebags too. I didn’t hear about their photo ops. I only heard about Trump’s because it came up on my Google news feed. And they didn’t take a sacred text that centers around God’s sacrificial love for us and commands to care for the downtrodden and use it for naked personal political gain…Something, btw, expressly forbidden a number of places in said sacred text…while simultaneously showing absolutely no care at all for anyone other than himself and also not telling the minister at the church that he was going to use the place. Never mind showing up to services at any other time like he gives a shit about anything other than himself.
Peaceful assembly is not the same thing as rioting, and peaceful assembly is guaranteed by the founding documents and principles of our country. You want to change that, go through the amendment process.
I’ll bet ROFL. But at least he tried. Up to that point in history probably the most unlikable POTUS (except Lincoln because the war was on) period…but he tried. Looking a bit like a Bond Villain…but he did at least try.
The irony of this after the last couple of months of shutdowns is kind of funny.

It is, I admit. But then, plagues (I use the term for hyperbole) don’t discriminate on border or race, and we have centuries long precedents for quarantine including in the US.

I was being sarcastic regarding this past week of rioting, looting, and murdering with nary a peep from the Left pols and pundits, but then dragging out the tired Trump is canceling assembly, ergo is a dictator.
My positions are: cop should be up for at least murder 2nd degree, and other 3 something like negligent homicide,
Peaceful protests should be allowed and protected from harassment,
Violent Rioters should bear the fullest measure of punishment.

I am not certain that some in the black community will ever be satisfied with whatever level they attain. There will always be another race baiter willing to play that card saying they are owed reparations, preferred treatment to make amends for slavery, or more mea culpas are needed to drive out the the smug attitude lurking in the hearts of whites - causing the white privilege.
Whatever. My dad’s father (and by extension my dad as a youth) was a sharecropper into the mid 1950s, when Dad returned from Korea. Maybe my 1 armed grandfather learning shorthand (seriously) so he could teach and my dad working at the post office and using GI Bill are white privilege.

Maybe nothing the President could do. But the President has flirted and essentially courted white nationalists throughout his presidency. He’s vile and disgusting towards other humans. When the looting starts the shooting starts and sticking the dogs on people and threatening with ominous weapons is the exact opposite of the rhetoric we need from him. In fact it’s maybe some of the dumbest comments in Presidential history during a crisis. Not to mention spitting in the face of due process. Which in fairness to Trump he probably thinks if someone is protesting they don’t have or something because he doesn’t understand government in the least bit.
What we expect Presidents to do is typically address the nation during times of crisis. The problem is addressing the nation requires Trump to open his mouth or type and he’s a colossal fuckup when that happens.
The nation is being ran by essentially a toddler. I don’t think “man he can’t win no matter what he does” fits here.

Re: these protests, let’s stay focused and avoid fanciful goalposts like reparations. In the minds of the masses right now, this is a policing issue first and foremost and so reform/oversight here remains the starting point.

I don’t know. For looters it will be when there is nothing left to steal. For the others, who knows, but it will happen as it always happens that way. I think not stopping the destruction is probably a smart move in some ways. Everyone lets out their aggression and anger over a a short period of time then goes back to their miserable lives as if nothing happened. If this were a slow, controlled, deliberate movement towards a well-defined and articulated objective (rather than just burn it all down bruh) it would be “dangerous”. This is bread and circuses.
Is this really damned if he does though? I mean it’s not like he is forced to say awful things when he speaks. As far as I know no one holds a gun to his head and says “hey we have a crisis how about talking about shooting American citizens. Just pick the absolute worst thing to say during this time.”
