It’s telling how Trump’s defenders ignored this.
A reporter told Trump this and he pretty much shrugged it off. He can’t even fake empathy.
Can we all agree as a Forum to have a little empathy for Melania?
She could always walk away tomorrow and file for divorce. We could be stuck with that clown for four more years.
Meh considering this came from a right wing article linked off RCP I’m not shocked.
“Let’s put aside for a moment whether we think the President of the United States should be tweeting so glibly about a serious problem. The silly line about shooting and looting was a classic Trump provocation, and probably best ignored.”
No big deal though. He took a break from focusing on Joe Scarborough is a murderer for a second. I guess I need to broaden my horizons or something. It seems to me that we shouldn’t be so used to a President’s provocation’s that journalist’s would just say “come on this is classic Trump just move on people.”
I’d love to think you’re right, but I don’t think the cards play that way (yet). Biden is squishy at best.
“I’m asking you to intervene in this instance because the President of the United States has taken something that does not belong to him — the memory of my dead wife — and perverted it for perceived political gain.”
He actually has quiet the habit of speaking horribly about dead people already from saying Dingel is in hell, the conspiracy theory tweets about Seth Rich, pissing on a dead soldiers parents, pissing on McCain as he was dying and then dead.
I’m guessing much like the article said though these are just typical classic Trump provocations that we should just ignore. Makes it easier to support when you can just slap the ol knee and say “that’s just classic Trump! Not even worth thinking about that comment. Hey how about AOC or something. That freshman house person, let’s talk about her instead!”
What would posters here say about you if you said those things? I think they would hold you to a higher standard than they do the president.

All the major legal firms in her native Slovenia are on large retainers paid by someone and are suing the shit of anyone who even dares to say something about the FLOTUS, notably the existence of her supposed university degree or any activities in her youth.
I agree, and I’m not predicting a Biden victory at this point - still too many unknowns. I do think one thing that will cut in Biden’s favor as well are October surprises. E.g., I suspect many of the voices of people who worked in the adminstration and saw first hand how terrible its is but won’t speak up now will in the fall.
Heh. A screenshot of a meesage to PA voters. I guess mail-in voting ain’t so bad after all. I’m shocked - shocked! - at Trump mendacity on the issue.

This one is interesting, @thunderbolt23:
" Can’t say for sure more broadly, but the business circles I run are significantly anti-Trump. Not because they’re liberals (they assuredly are not), but because the uncertainty caused by his circus act is increasingly bad for the economy and long term planning. Business support might he softer than you think".
It is interesting, because his economic “war” with China while sounding good…was devastating to many industries.
Now…before any of you shits start yelling and screaming “Hong Kong!” or how our dependence on goods from China have been exposed by the Pandemic; I am NOT suggesting that nothing should be done with China, but that any economic changes should have been part of a broad well-thought out, economic strategy…not as a series of tariffs so that Trump could dick-wave at China, and for his base.
Those proved to be economic and business disasters, that were “hidden” (well not really) by a strong, pre-Covid economy…
If conservative is to the right of the political spectrum, the gop further towards the left of that -
How is a conservative better served by a democrat who is not only left of the gop, but being pulled by even farther liberal ideology?
I lost by the logic of the 'I’m really a Conservative, but GOP/Trump/Libertarians just don’t do me."
Hell, no candidate or party ideally matches treco’s every whim. But dems and Biden match very few.
Seppuku, or you have no principles.
Now, because of Trump, the role is not simply about ideology. We’ve taken a step backward. Used to be, we had two reasonably similar candidates in terms of competence, fitness for the job, etc., and the decision was ideological - will they produce/support policy I ideologically agree with?
With Trump, now we have questions about competence and fitness. Seriously, that isn’t a jab in the “left-right” wars over politics - we have a guy in the Office that is unfit.
So, now we have to decide not basic ideological preferences, but something more fundamental we used to take for granted. Competence/fitness trumps ideology.
I might agree with a guy on 10 out of 10 issues, but I’m not getting in the passenger seat if he is shitfaced drunk and behind the wheel. Ideology is irrelevant at that point.
Biden is no gem, but he’s not unfit and he’s not going to do crazy stuff that will put the US in danger.
To me it’s more along the lines of if you’re a conservative what exactly is the GOP in 2020 hitting for you? If they are hitting so little why support them over a third party?
I think an argument could be made that in many ways Joe Biden’s history is more consistently moderate and conservative than Trump has been. Sure he had to tack left to secure the nomination but every politician does that to secure primaries and then they pivot back towards the center.
I’m not sure if I was a conservative in what areas I would be confident on that Trump would be aligned with me. When you have a history that’s erratic and changes like the weather I’m not sure how any conservative can feel confident in him being consistent. And that’s not even mentioning the fact that in a lot of areas he has been the least conservative President in history.
Found it. It was their token liberal explaining the narrative around the 1:45 mark.
“They said she was a nitwit”
“The GOP were saying she was a nitwit”
“There were people perhaps”
“The conservatives”
Not a single person was named. It is yet another example of a broadly-repeated liberal narrative that doesn’t hold up to a basic who/what/where/why level of scrutiny.
And one thing I’ve lost patience on is Trump supporters’ unwillingness to admit Trump’s fitness in question. The idea that he is in the same category as other presidents and candidates, just a little rougher around the edges, is simply unbelievable - and I mean that literally: it cannot be believed by a reasonable person.
Maybe conservatives fear a liberal presidency enough to gamble on that unfitness - but to try and pretend the unfitness doesn’t exist? I’ll never take you seriously if that is your position.
I don’t happen to agree with this. Not strictly because of the gaffes, but the appearance of early onset dementia (obvious not a dr, but at 60,have seen several first hand cases - so IMO), creepy lecherous behavior, multiple examples of anger displays, lies galore - wife’s accident, civil rights participation, academic record, voting positions, mid east episodes, and multiple examples of enriched family members as an indicator of corrupt character.
Because effectively a binary choice.
I have spoken for years about necessity of realistic 3rd party starting at dog catcher - not once every 4 years at President.
I mean this guy, #3 Lib Party vote getter - named Vermin Supreme. Running on a platform of enforced teeth brushing and a free pony for everyone.

I feel ya here. Dude is a loose cannon, that has done things I agree with (you know my list).
But GOP somehow getting painted with same brush, when it would unlikely (if we have more actual parties) that they represent a support to some of the wilder Leftist candy store fantasies.
Our binary system forces some support that wouldn’t likely happen in a Parliamentary system. Of course those have their own drawbacks.
sorry for poor grammar
