The Problem With the Problem of Evil

How created finite human parents do anything is irrelevant to this conversation. We’re talking about a God who commands light and matter to exist from nothing and they obey Him.

Thanks. The thing is, I do some 12 step work with addicts/alcoholics. Not a whole lot, but thats neither here nor there.

Anyways, I’ve had some really crazy things happen through out life. All kinds of pain, violence, loss, and grief. Then after hitting bottom, I sobered up.

So when I talk to people about getting sober, I tell them what happened to me, how bad it got, and how life is now. It seems to work about as well as it should, I guess. Other people have different styles though. Some folks have a great story, and they don’t let facts get in the way of it. Others seem to like to tell the one that they would rather have happened vs. the one that did. This works out about as well as it should too, but not really as I would have things. I’d rather give people the best possible shot at another chance, so I just stick to my own.

Anyhow, point being- If you want people to get what you have, give it to them the way you got it. This stuff you’re putting down here isn’t what got you here. It is where you are.

Thats why nobody is buying it.

Thank you. I didn’t think so. Your 100% failure rate has not been endangered.

How do we know it’s Him? Could be her? A transgender? The shape of a unicorn?

Actually it is how I got here.

I would be happy to video chat if you are so inclined. Facebook messenger works great. We do it all the time.

Oh I don’t actually believe in any form of religion to get into a debate about it. I just wanted to note that god, like everything we can perceive, is created in man’s image. The same way everything a dog think’s about is created in a dog’s image, because they have no choice in the matter. They’re limited by what they can perceive and comprehend.

As such, unless you believe humans are capable of perceiving something from god’s perspective, we’re all stuck thinking about anything/everything in man’s image.

I appreciate the offer, but I will decline. Thank you sincerely though.

Are you telling me you think the Bible doesn’t say those things? I thought we reached agreement on that, so there was no need to cite chapter and verse. Are you now saying you don’t believe the Bible has those two rules?

(And for someone who slinked away when given the chance to somehow sort out the glaring contradictions of Calvinism, I might recommend a less haughty approach to claiming victory viz a viz “failure rates”.)

Fair enough.

SkyzykS I think that’s the most insightfully put post here. That is 100% amazing sir, and very truthful. This is the way I view it but I didn’t have the wherewithal to put it so well.

Thanks man. I’ve been the beneficiary of some very good people.

Yes, it says “love” and “humility.”
I’m saying your limp wristed postmodern versions of them are not what the bible teaches. We’re never going to get into that though because we both know you are a biblical illiterate and a third grade Sunday school girl in a solid church would kick your teeth in in a debate about any biblical topic.

Further, nobody has slinked away from anything. The fact that your biblically illiterate mind doesn’t like the answers is not evidence they are unbiblical.

This game never did and never will work on me.

And, predictably, it ends in a dodge. I ask direct questions about your faith, you sputter and deflect, and then insist I’m not qualified to consider the issues (your ready escape hatch). When you get accused of acting a certain way in presenting your attempt to prosletyze, you insist you aren’t actually acting that way by virtue of getting to define words your own way (“Arrogant? Defined my way, it’s humble!”).

Oh well. Maybe one day I’ll run into a Calvinist who can coherently defend their faith in clear terms and in good faith. Today is obviously not that day.

Quoted for the jarring juxtaposition of irreconcilably incompatible concepts existing not only in the same mind, but in the same post.

Nope. Absolutely untrue.

Thunderbolt, what have you asked me that I have not answered?

Trib: I don’t think you understand the point ED is making. Or, if you do, please explain how the “jarring juxtaposition of irreconcilably incompatible concepts” was not on full display in your post.

He is of course free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought he was saying that my response was the polar opposite of humble and loving?

Indeed. Take heart - any who seek the Living God. If you are, He has set His redeeming affections upon you first. Not just for Jews, but for the whole world.
