The Palin/Biden Debate: 10/02/08

Good enough that the debate will be a wash and not influence voters much in either direction. Like most VP debates. Or did you somehow miss that part?
I’m replying to your posts, kiddo. I am not making a mountain out of anything. You said she over played her home town shtick. I said she isn’t. Push said she isn’t. You are a yankee with no clue about rural life.

You are the one going on about it in an effort to be right.

You should just let this one go.

And unlike Biden - I don’t cry except at certain movies.

Old Yeller?

Cuz I did.

Palin stops the bleeding, just
Sarah Palin delivers an adequate performance against Joe Biden in the vice-presidential debate

The good news for the McCain campaign is that Mrs Palin was confident and assertive, and made no big errors. The bad news is that a mediocre performance counts as good news. But they will take what they can get at this point.

I thought this summed up her performance well.

As far as her accent, most of the woman in my family talk like Palin. So it sounds a bit like going home to me ('save for the “even in the cases of rape and incest” craziness)

There’s a thread somewhere about movies that make you cry. I posted mine in it.

But yes. I think you should be strapped to an electric chair and fried at the lowest possible setting if you don’t cry when you watch Old Yeller.

Hell, I cried when our teacher read us the book when I was in 2nd grade.

Another thing that I wonder about. If this election is such a slam dunk for Obama, then why all this Palin bashing? If Obama is the obvious choice, then why is the left laying it on so thick? Why the attacks on Palin about the way she talks, and why attack McCain about his age?

Why do they need to keep reminding everyone that “George Bush and John McCain ruined the whole world, adn only Obama can save us all”?

That’s what the left does, personal attacks are their specialty. It’s like when you argue with a lib and you start presenting facts and logic, they come out with “Bush lied, people died”.
I totally agree with you here. You point them to any facts and they will not take the time to research the information. They would rather complain about what Bush did, even though Bush is not running for President.

My mom won’t even listen to me when I give her facts. Vote for the person and the stance they take, don’t vote for the party or better yet, don’t vote for the Celebrity choice…this isn’t Survivor or Big Brother. You are voting for America and your way of life and your kids’ way of life.

This country turns socialism and you can say good bye to the opportunity to argue with each other like this. I feel Obama would be taking this country one step closer to that end.

Dissect it anyway you want, she has charisma.

I completely disagree with this statement.

If she has charisma, why do I have the urge to strangle her until her eyes pop out.

I’m really not a violent person.

Yeah, I think she overplayed it. She knew exactly what would appeal to those with ‘a clue about rural life.’ I’d have to go through the transcript and point out all the specific examples to demonstrate it.

Which would take forever, and no, I don’t want to be right that much. It’s not relevant anyhow. It has nothing to do with my dislike of her or my view that she’s unqualified and uninformed. Or my analysis of her performance in the debate, which as I said, was pretty decent as a whole.

Huh. I’m the opposite. I thought Biden overplayed the urban routine. It just came off like he was trying to be too “Big City.”

How so? I thought he barely mentioned it. He did talk about Scranton a bit. Probably not as much as he should have.

I told you you needed counseling a couple days ago.

Because I disagree with you?

Just the way he spoke and composed himself. Very “big city.”

Yeah. He mentions a restaurant on Union street that has been closed for 25 years.

I think he should have played up his 35 years of insulation from real life as much as possible, as well.

You have to admit she moved you. Good or bad, she has the power to move you.

Now, just because you represent the powers of darkness, and the mere mention of her name incites you to murder does not mean she is void of charisma.

I only use the force for good.

I’m pretty sure she is as crazy as Headhunter,or AynRandLuver, whatever he is calling himself today.

That’s just the way he is. He wasn’t talking about representing ‘America’s underprivileged urban youth.’ I don’t like Palin’s accent or voice. But that’s just what my ears think. I don’t hold that against her at all. I have no problem with her background.

Hell, I don’t even mind her mannerisms. Nothing wrong with a shoutout to the third graders her brother teaches. That’s fine. That’s human. But ad nauseum references to Joe Six Pack and hockey moms? Come on.

And can you really tell me, it wasn’t contrived when she started to ramble about parents at kids soccer games in response to a question about the economy? I love soccer. I played soccer. Millions of kids across America in the country and in suburbs have.

People are really not so different from state to state and across different backgrounds as some might like to think. No one really likes polished, stilted, career politicians. But is that really what you want to hear in response to a question about the economy?

Is that a natural reference? That’s not natural imagery to call up when the simple answer is that the economy’s in trouble. It’s just a transparent attempt to try and get all those soccer parents to identify with her.

At least he knows how many homes he has and doesn’t think you have to have more than $5 million to be more than middle class.

Oh, I don’t think McCain or Palin are strong speaking about economic issues. But, after seeing the Obamessiah/Biden team brag about spending more money on liberal give aways while all this is going down? Tax and spend, now?
