Fiscally yes, socially no. (I’ve stated before but have no issues with clarifying)
Edit: more on a few specific social issues… but no need to get into that
Who is doomed? The US? Or Conservatives? Or a spectrum of conservatism?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very concerned about the direction of the country, but I don’t buy the “doomed” talk (or from the article, we’re all going to die). The USA has been through a lot worse.
20 trillion in debt, the Middle East falling apart Russia on the rise. The growing threat of Isis. More people on food stamps than ever before. About 96 million Americans out of work some no longer counted in the unemployment statistics. There are other issues but my point is that America may be doomed with a Hillary win. And of course that is the point of the article.
Let’s me emphasize this, because I agree with Drew.
The Republic not only survived; but came out stronger after: fighting a divisive and devastating Civil War; a Genocidal and Racists Past; (that we are still working through); and all of the social and cultural changes of the 60’s. (These are just the ones I can recall off the top of my head).
Neither Trump nor Clinton is going to “destroy” this great Country, that I’m sure of.
First of all not to re-plow old soil Obama has done much harm to the country with his ineffective economic policies. He has further harmed race relations as I have pointed out several times. As for his lack of leadership world wide that has certainly done harm.
Moving on past that we need someone who will NOT follow Obama’s policies. Not any of them. In fact we need to undo just about everything including Obamacare which is also a complete failure.
Why is HRC maniacally persisting if she actually does have an illness like Parkinson’s?
A So devoted to money that she will squeeze every last drop even if it kills her in the process
B So power hungry and entitled that nothing nor anyone else matters
C So desirous of beating Bill just this one time and forcing him to submit
D A wild ass conspiracy so Bill, Chelsea, or Huma can truly be President like Wilson’s wife
E God is using her to punish the US

I commented on that article when it was first posted I think a week ago, Zeb.
As I stated above; I disagreed with the authors ultimate “doom” scenario if Trump was not put into office.
Also if we have learned ANYTHING from History; (which in many ways we apparently have not); it’s:
Understanding what is “cause” …and what is “effect”…; and
putting the “cause” of issues like unemployment, suicide and crime on a group or groups of people…instead of looking at the true causes. (which are often much more complex, and impossible to change like Technology and Globalization).
Prime example: Detroit (and surrounding areas like Flint) were stripped of their manufacturing base.
They are not in the shape they are in because of Black Males, President Obama, Democrats and immigrants.
And while you are at it why the lack of success of every major city run by democrats over a long period of time? The reason that I keep pushing this is that in the end political philosophy does matter. It must matter or there would be no differences.
You are right some things cannot be blamed on Obama and I never blamed the lack of manufacturing in Detroit on Obama. But there are other far reaching problems that he simply didn’t handle properly. Even the most ardent democrats have admitted that.
There you go again, Zeb…not appreciating cause and effect because of the narrative you wish to pursue.
Chicago
It’s economy was never tilted so one-sided toward manufacturing the way Detroit was.
And what about the 500 homicides (and rising) so far this year?
These areas; (mostly in large Urban Centers); are essentially the epicenter of where the battles are fought to control the distribution of Drugs that America has an insatiable appetite for.
Every white kid snorting Coke at a University of Illinois Frat party is as guilty as anyone else for the carnage that is going on in inner-city Chicago.
Agreed. She is corrupt to the core – we’ve survived that. Her domestic policy ideas range from ok to stale to dumb – surviving that is kinda what we do, regardless of the POTUS. Her FP is a center-right hard-power hybrid Hamiltonian-Wilsonian stance – again, nothing we haven’t seen before (and, barring a few spectacular errors, maybe the best we can do in terms of geopolitics).
I’m not convinced, however, it’s been through worse than this (there’s too much to paint the full picture, so I’ll just choose one issue and create a mosaic from the tiles; the headlines alone will generally suffice):
And a very interesting one that ought to be read in full, not at face value but instead through an aggressively corrective lens that accounts for the fact that this guy literally works for the Kremlin and this changes the meaning of every sentence in the piece:
To reiterate: I don’t believe we’ve been through worse than this, not with stakes like these. Ever. And I hope we never have to.
I read that piece on FP the other day and was going to post it but lost the link. Kind of a fascinating viewpoint to read and contemplate. The Russian slant was obvious but I wasn’t aware the author worked directly for the Kremlin.
Pieces like this about the perception of our elected leaders and the actions that justify those perceptions- especially from people of such value, don’t get nearly enough attention here in the US.
