I was impressed with Kasich last night. I know he doesn’t have a chance of winning without a brokered convention, but last night hopefully helps him win Ohio.
The Trump University allegations were amusing to see Trump defend. From an article:
Rubio and moderator Megyn Kelly challenged Trump’s contention that the school received an “A” rating from the Better Business Bureau, and Kelly went on to read a passage from a Court of Appeals ruling comparing the Trump University plaintiffs to Bernie Madoff’s victims.
“Oh, give me a break,” Trump shot back. In the end, however, the best Trump could manage to say was, “Let’s see what happens at the end of a couple years when this case is over, OK?”
Walls around us, crass discourse, and torture, that’s all it takes. I’m beginning to believe Trump could seal up the nomination by promising he’ll have the families of illegal aliens water-boarded. And the border-patrol will carry it out because…Well, because people just do what the Donald says. It’s gonna be yooooge!
I have to disagree with some peoples thoughts on Kasich’s demeanor last night. The idea that he should be applauded for having “risen above the fray” doesn’t fly with me. Trump must be brought down, and he must be brought down now. Kasich’s attitude seems almost cowardly in the face of a potential Trump nomination. This bringing low of Trump can be done without implications concerning the size of Trump’s penis (Rubio, what the heck…). Politically, there are things I disagree with Cruz on, but he was easily the most effective last night. He bloodied Trump with every single exchange. And, he managed to do it as civilly as such things can be done. Rubio at times did…ok. Still, I can’t help but believe he’s going to be on the downslide now. He seems tired (as other have noted) and too easily shaken by Trump’s bullying.
My favorite part of the debate was when Kelly and Rubio tag teamed Trump on the Trump University issue.
On another topic I wonder if all of this Trump mania, hate him or love him, takes away from the story on the other side. The democrat party heads are actually unified behind a well known liar who fronted for her husband and attacked innocent women that he accosted, among her many other scandals. Of course there is that whole FBI investigation she is undergoing.
The republican establishment is trying mightily to prevent Donald Trump from capturing the nomination. The democrat party heads on the other hand are falling lock step behind a liar, influence peddler and someone who has been engulfed in scandal since she stepped on the public scene (lest you have all forgotten about Whitewater).
Everyone talks about the republican civil war. Well, where is the democrat civil war? There is none, they are happy to be associated with a liar and her husband the rapist.
I have to respectfully disagree with your comment that Hillary is all the democrats have. I think it is better said that it appears to be Hillary’s turn. There are certainly other more talented younger possibilities. Certainly there are Governors or Senators who would serve the democrat party far better than Hillary as a Presidential candidate. But, it seems to be her turn so they will all forgo the process and attempt to shove Hillary down the country’s throats. In fact, if we take a good look at the democrat party she is probably the single worst (or very close) candidate that they can nominate. So bad that there is even a question as to whether she will be able to run as she may be under indictment. Honestly, that’s their very best candidate? No way.
In fact, in many ways the two parties have switched identities. It used to be that the republicans would more or less fall in line behind the person who’s turn it was. We saw it in 92’ when Clinton beat Bush. We saw it again in 96’ when Clinton beat Dole (did anyone at the time really think that old Bob Dole was going to take out a sitting President? Pure nonsense!
Anyway, that has been their modus Operandi for many years. Now enter Donald J. Trump and he has thrown the entire picture out of kilter. Granted, it was heading that way without him as the past few republican elections have been rather raucous. However, none of what the republicans have done in the past compares to the democrats coronation of Hillary Clinton. If it were not for an old stoop shouldered Socialist named Bernie Sanders there would be no nominating process at all in the democrat party.
Like who? The only options person that was close was Joe Biden, and he’s not exactly ideal either. I don’t disagree with your “hillary’s turn”, but it was also supposed to be her turn in 2008.
I’m not arguing that she is a good candidate, only that I’m not aware of anybody else who was a serious competition for her other than Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders.
Honestly Drew you can’t possibly think that Hillary is the best the democrats have to offer…I know you don’t think that. She is probably one of the worst that they have to offer and the only reason she is headed toward the nomination (unless she is indicted which is becoming more of a reality every day), is because it is HER TURN.
You don’t know of anyone else in the entire democratic party who could pick up the mantle of leadership and run with it other than old Joe Biden?
Here is a list, you can begin with New York’s Governor Andrew Coumo and skim right on down just about any one of them would have been better than Hillary (I’m a walking scandal) Clinton.
Now go take a look at the many democrat Senator’s. You and I both know that Hillary Clinton does not represent the best that the democrats have to offer.
More to my point, at least the republicans are trying to defeat their worst candidate. The democrats are putting their worst out there as if she is actually “the nuts” and I think that’s hilarious. Honestly, if there is one person who was not created to run for public office it is Hillary Clinton.
Horrible personality comes off as cold and unlikable
Caught up in many scandals from day one of her public rise.
Can’t seem to tell the truth. Sometimes with very simple questions.
Cannot think on her feet.
Comes of as screechy and harsh.
On the verge of Federal Indictment.
Sure Trump is a sideshow a buffoon who is completely out of place on the political stage at this level. But as I said the republicans recognize this and are fighting to keep him from getting the nomination. Hillary on the other hand is getting the sweet kiss of acceptance from her party heads. While the republicans are having a “civil war” as the press likes to say…the democrats should be having one!
Those who think she is the perfect choice for the democrats are either stupid or they’ve been smoking something that distorts their judgment.
Zeb, I’m not trying to get you ranting about HRC again as you love to do. My point is that no other democrats expressed interest in running. Really, that’s it. If you are a democratic voter you have no other options. People tried to reject her with Bernie, but there was no realistic chance of that.
This is really the people’s repudiation of both parties, who only serve the extreme ends of the economic spectrum. People finally see that Democrats look to help only the poor with redistribution while Republicans look to help the rich and their bottom line, so you have middle America who feels like they are getting bent over. Look at the Trump’s numbers with the middle class, he is killing it, because he is talking about what most easily resonates with people. Rubio mentions unifying the Party, but how does that help my wallet ? People can see how the ill affects of uncontrolled immigration (both legal and illegal) have either sent jobs overseas or imported cheap workers in blue collar jobs and white collar jobs especially in the tech industry. Ford and Carrier moving jobs to Mexico, even the simplest of simpletons understand what it’s all about. Businesses wants cheap labor all day long, every day of the year (pounding their fists), keep that pipeline of workers flowing to fuck over the middle guy.
No one is talking about this but Trump, he may be vulgar, that doesn’t make him wrong.
Ha ha ranting? It seems that this entire thread has devolved into one big rant about Trump. Not that there isn’t good material there. All I am trying to say is that what the democrats are doing is worse. The republicans found their snake and are trying to root him out. The democrats found their snake and have exalted her to the highest possible position. That’s all…
By the way, there would have been other democrats throwing their hats into the ring if the word didn’t go out from the crazed feminist who is in charge of the DNC Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Bernie is too old and too nuts to care what the higher ups want at this point in his life. The others like Cuomo for example actually want a future with the party.
To review, here is the structure of the exchange: Wallace asks Trump how he would offset the deficit increases incurred by his tax plan. Trump says waste, fraud, and abuse. Wallace asks Trump to be specific about cuts. Trump says he’d cut the Department of Education, and the EPA (but calls it the Department of Environmental Protection). Wallace says that even if you eliminate those programs entirely, it doesn’t even come close to offsetting Trump’s deficit increase. Trump doesn’t respond directly, changes the subject, and brings up drug costs. Wallace points out that Trump’s numbers on drug costs are also completely untethered from reality.
And then Trump insists—well, it’s not totally clear what he ends up saying. He will negotiate and believe him, it will work out.
It’s unbelievable. I’m completely baffled as to how this guy is still the front runner. I mean, I understand the appeal early on, but at this point, I just don’t get it.
HaHa, love Megyn Kelly. Thanks Trump for pointing out how she’s not very good lol.
Fox News i.e. Roger Ailes…did he just punk Trump again with that anti-Rubio story the day before the debate, or am I ascribing too much to the man? In any case…
To Maximus’ point, it is well known that when the economy is doing well, The People do not “revolt”. So, how are those trumped up (heh) economic stats doing?
As an ex-New Yorker, I’ve been aware of Trump’s overrated business acumen from the get go, but I have to admit that I missed the Trump Mortgage and the Trump Vodka LMAO!
I have not seen it pointed out anywhere (not sure why) but the last time the real estate market dived in NY, Trump was effectively PERSONALLY, as well as professionally bankrupt because he had personally guaranteed a lot of the debt that he had. But he was too big to fail (sound familiar) so the banks kept him on to manage his business, renegotiated with him, and he was actually on a stipend of about $100K+ or so for a while. Imagine the Donald living on $100 K, The Horror! Then the rising tide lifted all his sunken boats…
