The 'New Year Crowd' Has Arrived!

Ahh yes, the new crowd is so much fun i love to look around in between my sets and see full body bicep curls, jump shrugs, half bench presses, and 1/2 squats…wait just kidding they dont even do squats
Aren’t jump shrugs a movement used to teach the Oly lifts?

…and newbies, it is retarded to put a 25lbs plate on the bar…and THEN put 2 45lbs plates on afterwards and then leave all of that shit on the bar.

I for one actually LIKE when I find 45lbs plates already on the machine. That’s less work I have to do. However, if I now have to strip EVERYTHING off because you slipped a fucking 10lbs on first, nothing pisses me off more.

ROFL! I’m not sure what’s funnier though… the moron who did that or picturing you steaming the whole time unloading and loading the bar.

this guy wasnt an oly lifter he was flopping about swinging his arms wildly and getting off the ground when doing DB shrugs with 45lb

DEFINITELY choice B.

I hate how every time I go into the gym this month, the 10 lb plates will be on the 25 lb pegs, layered between a 2.5 and 35, etc. The pegs are labeled. Is it so hard to match the number on the plate to the number on the peg?

I don’t mind. I always hope they make it. I am not crazy about the crowds so I just adjust the time I go. I do shake my head at some of the things I see.

But then I wish everyone would get off the freeway for me. I wish I had a remote control that could control other cars. That would be heaven.

Yes.

Where do you work out? Or if that is too specific, what part of Houston are you in?

jump shrugs,

Awesome.

Noobs are noobs, they’re entertaining for the most part. I get tired of looking at and smelling the same people all the time.

Hey, Brad’s with me! I guess I’m not COMPLETELY alone…
I agree. But then again my gym isn’t typically super crowded either.

I wish them well. We all had to start somewhere.

I think the new people are kind of fun to watch, like a circus. Public gyms are zoos all year in my opinion and there’s always something funny going on (sadly). Nothing cheers me up more after not having a good set than watching some middle-aged dude in super short red shorts try and do leg curls on the leg extension? Hmmm.

Shoot, people probably think I’m a noob because the other day, I smacked my chin with the barbell doing an overhead press.

I do that with push presses all the time. It’s why I don’t do O-lifts, I’d probably kill myself.
Yup, been there done that while doing thrusters one day, damn near knocked myself out.

Were you wearing a red shirt?

There’s no noobs in the weightroom at 6:00 AM most any time of year.

3 months ago I was doing push presses and took off a very large portion of flesh from the inner part of my lower lip throwing the bar up. (I was lucky not to knock myself out.) Blood was trickling out of the corner of my mouth for the rest of the workout. Thank heavens no one saw but I felt like the biggest jackass in history.

(The blood was great later. Especially when I smiled.)

My problem is the re-treads who never took the time to learn any gym ‘manners’ and still train without consulting anything more than a magazine. I do excuse people from equipment who take calls while I am waiting for them to finish. Take a call and you are done.

Not racking weights bugs me but when I worked at the gym in college no one had any respect either so I am conditioned to ignore it.

My new challenge is too many trainers and too little room. With bands flying, bosu curls, head stands and impromtu ‘floor bar’ sessions I am trying to aviod getting socked or kicked at every turn.

Blue tank top. Want a video?

Don’t hate just because I overhead press twice as much as Prof X…eats for breakfast. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have until Friday until people start returning to use the university gym. I’m savoring every moment of the peace and quiet

What, you plan on working in?

This is the (possibly only) good part of lifting at 6am.

The joy I now have is all the newbies at my BJJ class tonight, you can’t beat the look of total confusion on a newbie 220lb meathead’s face when they are getting handled by a 16 year old 150lb school kid.

My gym is full of pensioners and play Shania Twain ALL THE FUCKING TIME. There is this old man that has appeared in the last 2 weeks. Wearing a belt that is easily 10 years old really loosely on every exercise. lol

Cant wait to get back over to uni on friday its exam season until feb so I hope it will be quiet.

I understand why people hate the New Year Army, but you’ve got to love them. After all, I am under the impression that a lot of gyms would go bust if it weren’t for the New Year Army. In a couple of more weeks, you’ll have the whole gym to yourself. Just think of them as contributors to your gym that show up for a couple of weeks and then are gone. Do what I do, use the first couple of weeks of the New Year to take time off from your workout to give a good rest to your muscles.

Maybe on your warm up from what I’ve read about your lifting on the forums.

Just curious mostly. Or maybe I will “flame” you and curl in your gym’s squat rack. J/k.
