Your squats humble me. Then again, most of what you do humbles me. I can now squat 132lbs for 1. A whole 1.
Last try trying to attach that squat video.
Today: Weak and weepy 5-3-1 bench. Not much to give today. Did the minimum. Did nothing well.
Bench
Barx8
65x5
70x5
80x3
90x11 (missed on the 12th rep–stupid to go for it, as 11 was a grind, but still I thought that if I squeezed that bar and my body hard enough, I could not miss. I could. I did. Damn). I never really recovered from that disappointment.
Heavy singles
95x1
105x1
115x miss. I’ve hit this weight enough times that I figured even on an off day I could still own it. Alas, I was wrong. Again. I dislike being wrong.
Rowed some.
oh ya! A little late on this, but I think the wide grip pull ups are harder on the shoulder. But you can do em, no problem!

i read that chin-ups are supposed to be easier because your biceps get to help your back whereas your back has to do it all by itself with the pull-ups. that pull-ups were harder… but what you say does make sense. [/quote]
I can do 10 chins if under the gun but only one true-to-form pullup. So chins are WAY easier for me. I think that’s true of all women I know. Except, perhaps, you. And I suspect that’s the case because of your gymnastics background. Gymnasts constantly train the pullup as a part of other moves on the bars.
Nice squats. Wish I could see the video. Out of curiosity, what 1 RM do you have dialed in for squat in your 5/3/1 program?
I think pull-ups are easier than the chin ups. I don’t know if it’s the gymnastics background or the fact that I really only do pull ups and have never specifically done chins.
I love that picture of you doing the pull ups-seriously some beautiful form there.
Good squat day indeed, nice work. What runs have you got on the horizon?
Mim: I can do wide grip, but I don’t usually do them. My grip is a bit more than shoulder width apart.
Snap: Could be the gymnastics backgroun–uneven bars is a lot of back/ lat work–so I have some experience using those muscles. I also train pullups like a mother fucker. THey are a primary lift for me. And I have worked them hard week in and week out.
Lula: I have a half marathon in October. After that, I’m not sure. I have the itch to run right now. I’m thinking of trying to do another marathon next year, but I’m not sure my body can take it.

Gymnastics today.
Boring video to follow. Lots of chickening out before I finally do my back walkover on high beam. I still have to clean up my form, but it’s progress. Then, some quick and dirty tumbling runs to get some work in. I’m getting quicker off my hands and feet. So, I felt pretty good about tonight. Unfortunately, not much time left for bars…
Hmm. I have know idea how that prowler video got on my log, but I like it! Now I’m really wondering where my squat video went…
lol. i think tnation hates you. i can barely do a somersault, but the backovers look great to me. lol. the flips at the end made me feel like Tuesdays squat session…
AWESOME.
You have an amazing work ethic. When you “chickened out” but got back on and did it, I thought of this:
"Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.

And…I hope your husband is a religious man 'cause he should be thanking the lord every day for having a beautiful, weight-lifting, gymnast wife. Super sexy! Too SAMA?
I want to hijack your iTunes for myself.
Nice bar work! I AM working on my handstands. Mostly outside in the grass. I can stay up for a few seconds but still not secure yet. Also, going running shoe shopping. Anything you recommend?
hitting a tire with a hammer seems like fun.
you did it! haha. deja vu… i was trying to muster the confidence today to jump onto a step about knee height. your gymnastics vids really are fun to watch. you make it look easy!
Snap: Forgot to answer your question about my 5-3-1 squat max–It’s set at 145.
Koub: There is joy in movement. I’m starting to feel like my young self again. And that makes me happy.
Thanks Mim!
Git: Great quote thanks. And thanks for the compliments. Skill progression is a mental game for me. I’ve learned that if I don’t get up and go right away, if I give myself time to think, I’m better off backing down to the low beam, doing some more reps and then trying again. And yes, my husband appreciates and supports me. He frequently moderates his schedule so I can make it to gymnastics.
Bre: The grass is a great place to learn handstands. Good for you. It sounds like you’re doing well–jumping right into the free standing sort. With regard to running shoes, it depends on your specific biomechanics, your mileage, the surface, your BW…check out Running Shoes | Runner's World
Alexus: I remember being scared of jumping up on to a 24 inch box. I had to back down and practice jumping up a stair step. It was such an odd feeling. ANd horribly disconcerting…when I had stopped jumping and become so grounded? I’m over that now. Jumping is fun again!

Training yesterday 5 mile run.
Today DLS.
On an unrelated note: After about 7 years of wanting to paint my house, we had it painted this week. The delay was caused by the fact that we are true do it yourselfers. Everything. My husband is capable. I do the unskilled labor. But, we haven’t found the time. ANd the paint had started to fail. So, now I was in the deligtful position of getting to have my house painted. Sit back, relax, and let someone else work.
And this is how it went. The body color went on, and I thought. Ugh. I don’t really like that. NOw of course, if we had been painting it ourselves I would have called it off right then and gone back to the paint store. But,with contractors on the job and ready to work and the paint purchased–I felt stuck. As the day went on, I convinced myself that the body color was not so bad. I told myself that the the trim will make it look better. But, the trim went on, and Fuck it is ugly. And then the accent color. Uglier still. My son says, it looks like we eat a lot of tacos. Dear me. When did he pick up that racial stereotype?
THey also stained the deck. That was the one thing that I liked. But it rained hard before it dried. And now the deck is a tacky sticky mess, the ground and the grass are covered in stain, and my husband is grumpy.
My thought, why couldn’t the house color fail instead…My second thought I should have painted it myself. Painting is the one home improvement skill I have developed over the years.
DOn’t tell my husband, but I will live with it for one year. But next summer, if I still see it–I’m repainting at least the trim. I don’t like tacos.
sounds like a crazy week!
I like painting. I used to paint submarines when I was in the Navy. Not quite the same, haha!
ahahaha. must see pics of the taco house. lol i feel you on the movement part. glad you are getting out your younger self. always makes life better.
Mim: Your hired! Do you have a good eye for color?
Koub: No taco house pics. The humiliation of my poor color choices are still too fresh. Let me heal a little.

5-3-1 Deadlifts.
I love deadlifting. But more than anything, conventional dl hurts my sciatic ridden hip ass area. As I warm up with just the bar and then 135, I think that I SHOULD NOT be doing this. My stomach feels sickish with worry. I promise to use better judgment AFTER this workout–after I get my 225x10 (at least)–I’ll back down for awhile. Maybe take a break from Deadlifts until after my half.
Deadlifts:
Warm up
barx8
135x5x3
185x5
205x3
225x10 (+ 5 rep PR). No pain during these. Just desire. Felt the thrill of success. And that promise that I made not to DL for awhile–already voided. I’m such a helpless addict.
GMs just the bar. Some. Close stance felt ok, athletic stance=pain in my ass.
HLR 2 sets of 25; 2 sets of 15
GHRS 2 sets of 15; 2 sets of 10
Ha, a few years ago I painted my bathroom bright yellow. The colour looked so cheery on the tin, but dear god is it intense in a small room.
Video of 225x10. First time dropping the bar–it scared me a little, but I was too tired to bend down and put it down…
225 x 10 = Fuck yeah!
And, I had an SI joint issue (thought it was a spinal disc problem initially…which scared me a bit) from deads that was pissing me off. I used to feel a dull pain down the side of my leg. Decided to go to a chiro for the first time ever. First time getting cracked made it 75% better. Next time fixed it. Note sure if chiro is relevant to your situation.
