The Never-Too-Late Tattoo Parlor

63 pullups @ 122lbs is 7,686lbs that you pulled up to that bar.

hows THAT make you feel?[/quote]

Like I’m a real load to pull up? Ha! I’m just kidding. I like your math. I certainly never thought of it like that. Interesting. In any event, I think my pullup pyschosis might be remitting.

Ksnap and Koub: Got it!

Tues night I went running. Maybe 5 miles…

Wed–gymnastics. Flashes of brilliance on bars. Okay not really, but I did a couple of really good drop kips, which made it apparent that it is not just strength I am missing, but technique as well. I’m hoping to be able to start busting out sets of 10 of those. They are excellent for the core and back. Ripped the shit out of my hands–like half dollar size. I need to buy grips.

Thurs–I am up early. Insomnia doesn’t bother me—it just means that I get some me time. I’m so fucking busy right now. Planning to run when I stop logging. My hamstring is a littly unfriendly. I’ve thought it was sciatic, but I’m not so sure anymore because my back is really awesome…

It’s still dark here, but I’m going to get going…I hope the coyotes have all been fed.

Sciatica can stem from the piriformis. The sciatic nerve goes close to it but in a small percentage of people, it passes through the muscle itself. If the piriformis gets tight, it squeezes on the nerve, causing pain. That’s the issue I have to deal with when running. It got significantly better when I started doing all my glute 'hab stuff like clams and whatnot.

Cal: You are fucking brilliant. I first thought my hip pain and my hamstring pain were related, but then the hips got better, but the hamstring not so much. Still, I think you might be right. Hopefully, some targeted work will help.

Training: Felt good through my morning run. Decided to abandon my 5-3-1 week and deload early. I had a good 3s week. And I feel ready to rest. Tommorrow is a COMPLETE rest day. Kids have no activities. And I have the day off. I think we will do nothing or go swimming. How glorious!

go swimming, and soak up the sun. go grab a lacrosse ball, and one of then sand balls. sit on it. and mash the shit out of your piriformis. mash an area for 5-10 times, and then move it. i have lots of issues with my sciatic nerve on the right side. i do this daily, and keeps me away from the chiropractor for 2-4 months. before, i was going every 2-4 weeks…

swimming sounds glorious - enjoy it!

enjoy your day off!

i know you are motivated as hell - i certainly didn’t mean to suggest that you weren’t. guess i’m just trying to convert ya to 1rm PR’s rather than rep PR’s lol. the oly competitions (informal rather than formal admittedly) were totally me against myself. trying to meet or exceed training maxes. to do better than i did before. either prettier or more weight or hopefully both.

glad to hear you had some nice moments with the gymnastics training.

Koub: I am on admission to resolve this sciatic thing. I’m sick of it. My lacrosse ball and I are going to be BFFs from now on.

Frenchie: Swimming is fun with the kids now that they are strong swimmers. … I can relax.

Alexus: I have heard the siren song of 1 rm PRs. And it is enticing. But still, I really just like sub maximal training … I’ll compete though. I like to try new things. Why not?

+++++++++++++

Had fun with the kids yesterday. Today, my husband is taking them camping. And I have the day (and night) to myself. This is the first night that I will be completely alone since before September 2001. Ahh. I hope the dog and especially the cat leave me alone.

I could work and be productive. Clean my house. Do yard work. Hmm.

After swimming pic. Last years suit. The drawers are a little droopy. BW in the AM was 121. Good enough for now.

Very nice. I have severe hip envy.

wow - your log caught my attention because of your gymnastic goals and your gymnastics video is very inspiring. Honestly, at 38 I thought my gymnastics days were long over. I gotta check if I can get some adult time at the place where my daughter goes.

very inspiring, keep up the good work.

Looking awesome! I’m just envious that you got to play around on the bars. Those used to be my favorite. I spent at least half of my recesses grade 3-5th pretending I was in the olympics on them.

I really just like sub maximal training

hahaha. i wouldn’t call rep PR’s ‘submaximal’. I sure as hell don’t have the mental fortitude for them (yet!)

was watching gymnastics last night and thought of you!

always reminds me of how much I loved watching it as a kid too…my daughter wants to take tumbling class.

CaL: I am slim through the hips. But, I am also short waisted so I can look kind of boxy or top heavy on a bad day.

Koffea: I like your avatar. Totally reminds me I need to look into buying some grips. Of course 38 is not too old to do gymnastics! That’s about when I started again. Getting the flexibility back has been the most difficult for me. And I’m a real chicken. But, I’ve decided to focus on perfecting some basics. I’ve made progress. And I’m having fun.

Iron cross: I know I love bars. It’s a tough event for me right now. I rip all the time, and I’m not well-conditioned. So, I can’t replicated that feeling of swinging effortlessly for any period of time, which is what I want. But, I’ve made progress and doing gymnastics is a great reminder to me that I have lots of room to improve on lots of different levels. Keeps me hungry–and striving.

Alexus: I guess I don’t what to call rep prs. But, I do think the rep pr game has done a lot for me in terms of building mental fortitude. And that’s why I like them. You learn a lot about what you are capable of when you push yourself.

Mim: Get your daughter in a class. It’s good sport for building strength, flexibility and general body awareness. And maybe you could do some stuff too…handstands, bridges. You have really good back flexibility. I’ll coach you from a far.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I’ll second that. Gymnastics is also great for a child’s poise, confidence and discipline. And PS, if I can have a go at 44, I’m sure you can! You’d do a lot better than me I’m sure.

Just checking in with the awesomeness here. Very nomable abs you’ve got goin’ on. I think you need a new bikini that fits your ass tighter. Just a suggestion.

Your log is always a good one for me to read before I train. I find your determination to better your lifting efforts very motivational.

the hottest thing about your bikini pic is knowing you can deadlift 275!!! at 121lbs!!! that’s so cool! you’re ffffffffffing strong nads!

hip dip! you are a strong lean power machine.

Hope you used that alone day to do plenty of Nads stuff rather than the “to do” list.

Cal: All true, but only with the right coaching. And even then, one of the problems with gymnastics is that it doesn’t have seasons, and at way too early a level (here in the US anyway) kids are required to do it to the exclusion of other sports. Right now my daughter is swimming 2x a week and doing gymnastics 2x a week. If she advances much further in gymnastics, the time demands will preclude swimming. I don’t want my daughter to have to choose a sport at 10.

So, I intend to fight that battle with the coach. I already know I won’t win. I’ve talked to her about it. Her response, “You’re either on the team or not.” Yes, but if she can do the skills–and if she accepts the reality that she will advance more slowly–why can’t she move up to the team and simply continue to go only 2x a week? I’ll even pay the full freight… BITCH.

Thanks Kimba. I’m very flattered by your comment. And a new bathing suit bottom is just the tip of my wardrobe problems. Too bad I hate to shop. I’ll slop around in ill fitting clothing instead.

Bre: Agreed. I love my body for what it can do. I think about BW in terms of bench and of course, with respect to the pullups. But, as far as squat and DL go, I just pay attention to the weight on the bar. I don’t think of myself as little. Just ask my husband. When ever I see a picture of us together it always surprises me: How is he that much bigger than me? I think I’m a big dog.

Frenchie: I did take a good amount of time to myself–only one thing crossed off the “to do” list. I had to do it. It frees me upt to spend some more time with my kids during the week.

Training:
Sunday 6 mile run

Monday: Off. I didn’t even stretch. Shit.

Tuesday: 5 am 5 mile run.

Then breakfast. Then squats, finishing off my 5-3-1 week. I’m going to reset MP and bench, but keep going with squats and deads.

squats
bar x25
65x10
95x5
105x5
120x3
135x12 (pr) but I cut some of these on the high side…oops.

HLR 2 sets of 25

Front squats: some. still working on feeling these. Blegh.

Press handstand work. Still cannot get my effing hips up. I’m really good through the straddle stand, but from the sit…I got nothing going on.
