The Never-Too-Late Tattoo Parlor

@ironcross, I needed to learn in a hurry when I started teaching PE, because I figured if I couldn’t do it then I wouldn’t be able to teach it either. I did a Google and found they did adult classes at one of the London Crossfit gyms (I guess, since a lot of Crossfit WoDs have things like handstand pushups, people wanted to learn). I’ve had to stop for a bit due to my foot injury but it was a good class and lots of fun.

Perhaps other Crossfit affiliates offer a class - it might be worth having a look around. Despite being dyspraxic, I learned how to do a forward roll and headstand and can kick up into a handstand (I just can’t hold it, yet). So yes, you can learn new tricks, if you put your mind to it.
I doubt I’d ever be able to do what Nadia does but I’m pleased with what I can do, considering I only started last October.[/quote]

Thanks for the response. I can already do a forward or backward roll, kick up into a handstand, drop over into a bridge, do a handstand pushup against the wall, and cartwheel (I used to take tumbling when I was a little thing but then stopped and never lost those tricks. I can’t aerial or walkover anymore). I’m looking for the next level.

OMG! That last video you posted it beautiful! Im so jelly of your grace!

The background music to that video is perfect. So graceful.

The background music to mine would have been heavy metal. I was so…not good at gymnastics. I envy your abilities.

Yea, good work on the presses!! And down to a straddle hold, very impressive. Good improvement from the video in the bedroom a while back. Those back handsprings look pretty ready for a beam, I’d say. I’m not sure I agree that you’re sitting too low. Maybe a little bit, but not excessively so that you undercut. However, whenever I had problems with that I had to think about making it quicker and more explosive—imagining exploding all the way down to my toes, if that helps.

Glad you got a quick beach anniversary trip. Looked amazing.

Koub: I’m typically ready for my deload too. And in the gazillions of 5-3-1 cycles I have done, I have never skipped a deload. Just this once.

Thanks Cal.

Ironcross: The 2 gyms near me have adult open gym times and/or adult classes. One of the gyms only allows adults on the floor–not on the other events. That change came about because of insurance issues. You’ll just have to call around and find out what’s available near you. Hopefully, something. You certainly are not too old to start doing gymnastics again. There is a guy in my “class” who started gymnastics when he was 40. He’s getting pretty damn good now. I was watching him last night and was inspired to see him working on his back handspring.

Thanks Dasher. There’s not a lot of metal on my ipod…and really the only time I can listen to that is when I’m DLing.

Lula: Thanks for the tips. I don’t feel ready at all for beam. But, hopefully soon.

Tomorrow I’m hoping for a good morning run. I could use an endorphine high.

prisoner art

Oops missed you there snap. We didn’t have the level system when I was a gymnast. So, it’s hard for me to say. I probably would have been somewhere btw level 7 and level 8, I’d guess. Nothing special.

Right now, I could be a really bad level 6 gymnast. I can do all of the skills except the flyaway on bars.

I tried gymnastics when I was a kid… That was a fail.

For some reason… not all of your videos show up for me.

Yay for the Rep PR!

i think you’re looking stronger- more built?? (in the last gymastics vid) than when you started. you notice any size increase? shit i dont want to give you a complex- but i mean to say i think you look fantastic. i’d love to learn the handstands from you.

That prisoner art is creeping me out a bit because my mother was sent a rose exactly like that by a prisoner she used to write to as a missions project when I was a young thing. The only difference was that hers was in color.

It’s exciting to hear that I could do adult gymnastics! I used to adore it as a kid and due to finances was never able to persue it.

I took tumbling as a kid and LOOOVED it. My Mom yanked me out due to constraints in her schedule…grrrr

I think I got up to 6 cones I could dive roll over

2busy: Not sure why you can’t see the videos… some I link in from youtube and some I just post here directly. I’m guessing you can only see the ones with the youtube link? Sorry.

Bre: I was in a dressing room last week under the harsh flourescent lights, with all the mirrors, where I had the “holy fuck my back is huge” experience. But then I took a pic today and it doesn’t at all look the same. Really, I’m not at all bogged down by aesthetics. I’m attending to my bw, but only because it is relevant to the pullups, which are my focus now.

Ironcross: The pic is a little a creepy. I’m not sure why I posted it here. Probably because it is work stress (not quite the right word) that has me skipping my deload and feeling bogged down (also not quite the right words). I hope you can find a gym to do gymnastics at. Call around and keep us posted.

Mim: I have some recollection of seeing you do bridges in your log. You’re very flexible. I’m sure you would have been a great gymnast. Sorry, you didn’t have the opportunity.

Yesterday: Training 5 mile run. Felt solid. It’s much easier for me to gauge how my body is feeling/recovering through running…this run was reassuring. Body is holding up.

Today: 5-5-5 Deadlifts

Bar x15
135x5x2
155x5
175x5
195x15 (+ 3 rep pr). Previous rep pr was set in March so I went in with a mindset of absolutely having to do better than that. Fuck it was hard. And my first reaction was WTF why is is so hard to break a 4 month old rep pr? And then I remembered-- who I am and how I train and that the 195x12 previous rep pr was probably one fuck of grind too.

Didn’t do much else. HLRs x20, tkes, hip shit, balance shit. Maybe gymnastics later or a run…something.

Here’s my WTF happened to my back pic. I swear on Wed of this week I was fucking hulkish huge.

Your back looks fantastic and your butt is adorable!

Since I have thoroughly stalked you, I feel qualified to point out that you are looking more and more athletic. Well done, little miss!

Yes, your back is awesome and you definitely have a nice bum. I’d squeeze it.

Its almost unfair…
you look great!!!

you have one of those physiques where people just know you ‘work out.’

I agree with all statements posted above.

Yum. Double yum on the ass.

yeah, your back side looks great!

heh about the PR. i find that, too. expect my PR’s to feel easy but need to remember that getting the last one damn near killed me so why would i expect this next one to feel different?? except for my last deadlift, oddly enough. but that was a technique breakthrough more than anything else.

i still can’t believe you run before lifting.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

Mim: I like to think that I train pretty hard. And I have been pretty active my entire life. However, it is fair to say that my diet hardly supports the physique that I have. So, it probably is unfair that I’ve never had trouble with my weight. My entire adult life I’ve weighed btw 120 and 125–except when I was pregnant or when I dieted last year in an attempt to reach my pullup goal. But many (most) people in my extended family struggle with their weight. I don’t know why I’m so lucky.

Alexus: More and more I’ve been running after I lift. But, running before I lift works for me too–it just gets me feeling ready and warm. When you’re used to running, there are such things as easy runs.

Training yesterday afternoon: I took my kids to open gym. We were the only ones there so I got in a pretty good workout, and happily, I felt good. Gymnastics used to leave me feeling wrecked, but not anymore. Definite progress.

Training Today am: 10 mile run. I haven’t run that far in awhile. Again, I felt suprisingly good. Tonight, I’ll do some handstand and flexibility work.

I’m thinking of dropping BBB through the rest of this cycle. That template just ruins me. This week without it, I’ve had so much more energy for gymnastics and running. And this cycle, I’d like to add a track workout in and bump my long run up to 12.

Actually, I think I’ll do BBB once this cycle, next week, on my 3 week. Then, heavy singles on my 5-3-1 week. Maybe that will work… BBB is so damn awful, but I’m scared to move away from it. I know it’s making me strong. Actually, it’s probably more that I feel like a quitter moving away from it. It’s fucking hard. And I hate it. FUCK.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Diet: BW 121 today. This was a tough week, with the kids out of town, we ate out quite a bit. Still, generally, the quality of the food I’m eating is substantially improved. I’ll probably have to lose a few more pounds to reach my pullup goal, but I’m going to hold off doing that for now. I think I’ll be more apt to keep up with the healthy eating if I’m not eating at a deficit.

You can tell you have a low body fat level by the definition you show in the back.

That’s just awesome.

You don’t look freakish big, you look strong.

A 10 mile run is nothing to sneeze at.

I hope to be back to those by next spring.
