The Mike Mentzer Evolution?

This sounds fatal!

I used to ski, a lot. I will maintain that you missed the boat here. I am not arguing Mike Mentzer, or HIT. But to get my legs strong for ski season, particularly in my middle years, I did static wall sits. They make your legs
stronger. In my case particularly for skiing.

LOL, yes it is. However, we were speaking in the context of intense, rapid, muscular fatigue. Maybe I should’ve stated it another way? You don’t wanna reach the inability to continue, performing the repetitions in a set because of respiratory insufficiency.

I knew what you meant!
It is a fact that aging decreases lung respiratory ability. Why HiTers have been historically against cardiovascular conditioning is beyond reasonable logic! Great cardiovascular conditioning prevents respiratory insufficiency allowing harder training sorties.

Not all Hiters are against cardiovascular conditioning. Dr.Ken was not. Mentzer was not either.

True!
Mentzer did cardio for the Superstar’s competition. It didn’t help him very much!
There is Discover Strength with the argument that cardio is not effective for fat loss. The truth is that cardio is good for weight loss. So is resistance training. High intensity business always minimizes cardiovascular conditioning, even though the CAROL bike is a proven commodity. HiT always champions resistance training machines since 1970, when AJ built Nautilus machines.

What does it mean for something to be good for weight loss?

Like, you’ve listed resistance training AND cardio as “good” for weight loss. Compared to what other activities? What would NOT be considered “good” for weight loss? And on a scale of goodness, does cardio rate above, below or equal to resistance training?

Effectively proven over time by people.

Activity that brings results less effectively than the above.

What would NOT be considered “good” for weight loss?

——-

More than maintenance calorie diet, and slothful lifestyle. I haven’t found HiIT very good for long-term weight loss either.

This question leads to arguments.

Effective in what manner? By what metric?

Could you list these activities that are neither resistance training nor cardio?

In this case, the argument is that resistance training and cardio are better for fat loss compared to overeating and being slothful? I cannot imagine there is anyone making a counter argument to that.

I believe you’re correct,
Sorry, pressed for time !

I don’t know how many Superstars competitions Mike Mentzer did, but I recall the one in Miami (Key Biscayne if I recall correctly). My swim team hosted the swim event, which meant we held the timers. I was Mike Mentzer’s timer. I was 15 or 16 and his biggest fan. Mike Mentzer was a bit of an ass.

Useless trivia for you.

God I hated that Pancho Villa (Charles Bronson?) mustache on Danny Padilla!

It’s funny people even question any form of exercise for ‘weight loss’ , bodyweight is based on calories in vs calories out with some differences in the ratio of macros and how they can be store. But at an equal macro ratio, more calories ‘out’ so to speak would always lower the amount stored, whether it be cardio or weightlifting.
the only thing exercise does ‘better’ than just cutting calories, is it can alter the portioning of where calories are stored. Studes show adding exercise, even without any change in caloric intake, will still reduce visceral and ectopic organ fats vs no exercise with a caloric reduction.

A few comments above on availability of MM’s earlier books - it looks like John Little and Simon Shawcross (the HITuni guy) have got the rights to the Mentzer books/archive from Joanne Sharkey’s daughter and are republishing HD1, HD2 and some other stuff as “Heavy Duty Legacy Edition”, $35, on the website www.mikementzer.org
Web address didn’t show in search, I had to type in address box. iirc website used to be some Drew Baye/John Little attempt to maintain some of the content from Joanne Sharkey’s old mikementzer.com site.

I went to mikementzer.org and was able to place an order, but i canceled it because it appears to come from the U.K. and with shipping it was gonna be about 70 bucks
too steep for a book in my opinion

You can select different shipping options at checkout. The cheapest to the USA is 14 bucks

So your looking at 48 bucks total
