The Man In The Cellar...The Return

Good morning, all. I hope this finds you all doing what you love and thriving. I’m currently surviving college, however, I’ve got two weeks left until winter break, so that is a plus. A little about me for those that don’t know/remember me, I used to be on here heavily about 11 years ago. I am currently retired from the military, and am a full time student here in Virginia. Under normal, ideal circumstances, I can be found in the gym every morning doing Oly lifts and other staples. Right now…I’m fat and out of shape, as I put all my focus on passing this semester in my return to college. A return because I suffer from mental illness, as well as diabetes. The latter came as a result of a two-year depression where I absolutely did not take care of myself.
I am thinking that when I get back to work, I’ll go with my bastardized German Volume Training. I had success with it in the past, so hopefully it works for me now, although, I am a bit older now.
So…with all that said, I’ll try to keep my log updated in here. Complete with photos and video. Feel free to drop a comment or ask a question. I’m here for it!

So the semester finally came to a close on the 17th. Passed two of my three classes. I absolutely despise Exercise Physiology. I’m not a scientist. At 41, my memory isn’t the same as it was when I was 21, so the amount of shit I had to memorize did me in. Oh well…better luck next time. I finally got back into the gym yesterday morning. Felt damned good to be back. Lots of familiar faces along with some new ones. I didn’t get around to recording the work, but I typically don’t record chest days…seems a bit weird, unless I had a partner. But here is what I did. Keep in mind that I haven’t dived into GVT yet, as it’s been close to three months since I’ve trained consistently.
Assault Bike x 10 minutes
Warmup/Core Work x 10 minutes
Incline Bench Press- 135 x 10 reps x 5 sets
Alternating Dumbbell Bench- 45 x 10 x 3
Dips- BW x 8/8/6/5
This was a relatively safe workout to start. I learned pretty quickly just how out of shape I am with the dips. Gotta get right. Also have to start getting it in earlier, as 6am is a bit late for me. Didn’t get in much cardio, as Wifey had to work, so I was a little pressed for time. I didn’t have that excuse this morning, so I got to continue getting back in the swing of things, along with cardio at the end. Not as many people at 4:30am, so that was a plus.
Assault Bike x 10 minutes
Warmup/Core x 15 minutes
Cleans- 95 x 5 x 2; 115 x 5 x 2 (Kept it light to work on form. Also rehabbing a sprained knee)
RDL’s - 135 x 10 x 3
Barbell Rows- 135 x 12 x 4
Lat Pulldowns- 100 x 15 x 3
Arc Trainer x 20 minutes
For this month off, I’m going to take my time in the gym. I’ll keep my heart rate up, but I’m going to go for volume. I’ll also be incorporating more stretching. Pics will will forthcoming.
