The Life of a Fireman?

I’ve been looking at changing careers for the last year or so.

If anyone is, or has been a fireman, I’d be interested to know how they feel about the job. Especially interested in how their life/work balance is, how the job differed from their expectations, how they deal with big crashes, loss of life, huge fires, how the public often treat them on the job and if you left the fire service, why you chose to leave.

I know its hard to get into, but I’m seriously considering giving it my best shot.

I’m very pleased with being a professional firefighter. The schedule works great with having a family, yes you miss some things but being able to have the time off is great.

The public loves you, except when you block the highway or close it down. Then they seem to get a little angry.
