The KimbaLog

Nice work on the deadlifts! And enjoy the skiing. I’m with Alisa on this - I’m sure it’s very exhilirating but if you’re like me and have appalling balance coupled with dodgy knees and a hatred of anything cold, it’s probably best to stick to something else.

Regarding the chucks . . . Because I wear mine without socks, my feet have molded to them. It’s the next best thing to no shoes. They probably smell pretty bad, though.

so you think i wouldnt pull out the shockey monkey for the money set? ffs, woman.

you’re automatically trying harder, so the adrenaline overrides your thinking/good sense. u havent mastered being able to do both yet. you must, before you can become NINJA!! or contract assassin.

You girls are right – that downhill skiing was clearly invented by someone with a death wish.

But oh so fun. Tomorrow I’ll ski extra for you guys. Today was relatively safe XC skate-skiing. Except for the downhills. (MIM, its safe so far).

Oh. Well, I don’t do that at all! But I’m certain that I can do better than ZERO floor spreading/explosive hip movement next deadlift day. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think my issue with chucks is that they just don’t fit my foot quite right. They are too long and not quite wide enough. However, I’ve only worn them a few times, so I’m thinking there hasn’t been any molding yet. Mine smell great, though.

Oh no, I know you totally WOULD and with relish. Fear of SM apparently has limits, however.

You certainly know the way to my heart. RAWRRRR!

HAHA! That’s right! What’s your assassin name?

Awesome deadlifts. You ladies are hitting big numbers. Me likey.

This happens to me all the time I will tell someone over the phone to squeeze the bar tighten belly and they tell me they are doing it. Then we meet in person and they are doing no such thing. Then I make the squeeze there back together or spread the floor sonhard there feet hurt … Then they gooooo ahhhhhh I get it …

I remember one time I went up to lift with Wendler he made me pull my back together and hold so hard my traps hurt for days . Not to metion squeezing the bar … Nothing like getting yelled at for 45 mins. That is how Jim deals with me, he is compleatly different with others.

I might try and put some of this stuff on video. If anyone has any suggestions or requests let me
know.

Off to work I go

Jim

Mascherano, I don’t have an assassin name. “Kimba” is unlikely to evoke fear and awe in the assassin field.

I forgot to mention that yesterday before leaving, I got out of bed in the AM and grabbed the oly bar I keep in the bedroom (doesn’t everyone have an oly bar in their bedroom??)

Anyway, I decided to do my military presses in my PJs:

5/3/1 Wave 2, Week 2 – MP Day
45# 2 x 5
55# 1 x 10 <–money set Rep PR +5

Five more reps! The last rep was ugly, but I locked it out with great difficulty.

I guess there is something to be said for me trying MPs (my suckiest lift) on its own day and not after squatting or deadlifting. Of course, I should have warmed up first…

The breakfast buffet in the dining room awaits. Refeed day, anything goes. YEAH!

Oh god this could be me. I have so much trouble actually feeling what my body is doing. That’s why it’s nice to have people to yell at you. (it’s also nice if those people are Jim Wendler – lucky you.)

Alisa, thank you for verbalizing what I was trying to convey. Me too. Often I can’t feel what my body parts are doing – I have to see it on video to know. Wouldn’t I LOVE someone right there to yell at me!

Back home from a great ski trip. I have eaten more starchy carbs in two days than I have in two weeks. And they were all delicious, especially the pumpkin-stuffed almond french toast with real maple syrup…

Holy shit!! Pumpkin and almonds stuffed into the sinfully decadent fluffy goodness of french toast? I can think of a dish that encompasses more of my favorite things. I’m glad you had a great trip.

Sounds like a good day. I am hitting the slopes next weekend, I hope my frame can handle it.

mmmm…french toast…

Agreed, for me its also quite challenging to get a feel for what you’re body is doing - especially when there’s all sorts of things you have to think about - squeeze bar, chest up, etc.

Like Cbear said, the mind body connection is a beautiful thing. I’m sure once that connection clicks then everything is like second nature.

Actually, Kimba is a great assassin name - deceptively sweet

That there is hardcore food porn. awww maple syrup. I think my quebec blood must be half maple syrup.

“Kimba the lunge beaast” might evoke fear as an assassin name…

glad to hear about your great ski trip…lucky girl. (i swear i’m gonna try at least once this year)

pumpkin-stuffed french toast with maple syrup…my mouth is watering since i’ve been carb depleted since monday…oh nom nom nom nom…

You have no idea how that french toast sounds to me on my whey protein and canned tuna diet. I’ll go cry on Talenaah’s shoulder.
Glad you had fun skiing.

i have a box of tissues for us Cal. i’m crying for you already…

Glad you all enjoyed the food porn. There was more…lots more, but I did not want to be overly cruel to those cutting.

After today’s training, I am ruminating on the following concepts: lifting weights as a character building exercise, and the idea that building strength is a long, long process measured not in weeks, but in years.

Some days I get to the gym and think I’ve slept great, feel rested and I’m going to have a great day. And then I get under the weights and everything feels heavy and difficult. Other days, I’ve slept crappy or my nutrition is messed up or I feel unmotivated, and everything I touch goes up easy. Lifting performance feels totally random to me. Actually, I feel the same way on the bicycle – I never know what sort of legs I’ll have until I start pedaling.

Oh well.

CliffsNotes: weak sauce day.

Wave 2, Week 2 – Squat and Bench Day

Back squat to 3 risers plus step
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
65# 1 x 5 warmup
85# 1 x 5 warmup
95# 1 x 3 working
105# 1 x 3 working
115# 1 x 5 ← money set was totally lame with lots of knee cave
BBB 95# 1 x 10 (last rep UGLY), 85# 1 x 10, 75# 1 x 10

I forgot my notebook at home, and had to figure out the weights today from memory. I messed this up and lifted heavier than I should have – correct numbers were 85/100/110. I have done 115# for 10 reps in the past. Not today, though. Not by a long shot.

Bulgarian split squat
12.5s 3 x 10

My balance sucks, to the point where I fell out of the position on every set at least once. I decided to do these because I hadn’t done any single leg work all week. Perhaps my left side weakness is hurting my squats, so unilateral work certainly couldn’t be bad.

Bench Press
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
65# 1 x 3 working
70# 1 x 3 working
80# 1 x 5 ← money set, equaled my best effort, but failed on 6

Dips
Dip belt plus 10# plate 1 x 9, 2 x 10

First day with my new dip belt (I bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Harbinger-28900-Polypropylene-Weight-Belt/dp/B001P0S3XU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1262566039&sr=8-1). The belt says “one size fits all” and it did indeed work. I just have to get used to a new position for the weight and keeping the belt around my hips.

Weak sauce day: I’ve dipped a 15# dumbbell for 8/8/5 before, but the 10# plate was all I could handle today.

Back Raises
15# dumbbell behind head 15/12/15 ← Rep PR +3 something, anyway.

Pushups
10/7/7

I am weak on these. Haven’t trained them in awhile and it shows.

Pullthroughs (3 sec. pause top and bottom)
47.5 1 x 10

Keeping my eye on the long-term ball. Cause there was nothing much to see here today.

Hey Kimba I’m checking in everyday wondering if this is the day we get to see you awesome boudoire pics and such:) We all have days like those but you kept pushing. That builds muscles in the brain, super strong character muscles. You just don’t see them as much as biceps.

“Some days I get to the gym and think I’ve slept great, feel rested and I’m going to have a great day. And then I get under the weights and everything feels heavy and difficult. I can so relate. I just hope that the dice roll right on meet day.

You are perfectly normal
as you spend more time in the weight room you will
become more consistant. It will become easier to judge when to push and when to back off.

Keep plugging
