The KimbaLog

Looks great and would look terrific on you.

Congrats on the PR’s. I too have been thinking about getting the belt but I am convinced that I will kill my self with it some how.

I can cause anything to break.

it was great to catch up in your log and see you still hitting PR’s. WTG Kimba. I keep forgetting your so tiny seeing you lift all that heavy stuff.
Cheers
N

deja, thanks for the encouragement!

MIM – you are funny…hot yoga. I am a yoga dropout.

Cal and Alisa – Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I can wear that outfit just fine. But I’d be super embarrassed to wear this for reals. Its just too little.

Joe, you are funny! I think a belt would be safe for you.

N, thanks! I try for some sort of PR every time I hit the gym. I want to lift even heavier stuff!

Today’s training: nothing. Rest day. Foam rolling, tennis ball rolling, scapular wall slides. Couch sitting.

Alisa, I’m glad I’m not the only one excited by COLORS!

Jim, thanks for the reminder to roll out my feet with a tennis ball. This helps my flexibility alot, but I’ve been forgetting to do it along with my nightly foam rolling.

Enlightening belt discussion. Whatever the benefits of a lever belt, I am hopeless with a screwdriver. I have many talents, but figuring out tools is sadly not one of them.

As for belt colors, I am drawn to the red. Forest green is nice too. My favorite color is orange, but I don’t think the orange of the Inzer belt is bright enough. I detest light pink, although the statement-factor of a pink girly weight training belt does appeal to my contrarian nature.

Although, in the interests of full disclosure on the pink issue, I did just buy this very pink “hot yoga” outfit for my upcoming photo shoot:

But I promise never to do “hot yoga”, and certainly not in this get-up.

Your welcome for the reminder. Don’t feel bad i hate foam rolling stretching and mobility work … I would much rather just lift. I make all my clients do all that stuff but sometimes i get lazy. Molly’s trip to Indy was big reminder of how important that stuff is in the long run. I ran some self testing on myself from asses and correct and i have been working on some of my weak areas and some of my imbalances it has already made a big difference esp. my injury from my car wreck.

work on the small things today = avoiding big problems in the future …

I am liking the red belt … It wouldn’t work for me but you can pull it off

Jim

Nice work on all those Pr’s

Jim is right rolling the feet and peroneals is a must.

I got the inzer economy its plenty of belt but its two prong
a bit of a pain in the ass sometimes.

truth be told hot yoga isnt all that bad, if it fixes your shit.

I used to do hot yoga and it was enjoyable but it had its issues.

I am as flexible as rebar and the little hippy girl instructor would just pat me on the shoulder and tell me I was “too heavily muscled” when I had problems with a pose.

Its always scheduled first thing so the studio can cool down for the other classes which was not helpful for me making the classes.

Then theres the fact that its so hot people tend to wear almost no clothing…

solid training Kimba! yeah for all your PRs. i hope you enjoyed your day off yesterday. cuuuute outfit-you will look smashing i’m sure. when is the photo shoot?

and i know i don’t have to ask if you WILL be posting some pics. it’s a requirement you know.

oh, yes…you do appear taller than 5’4"-you look quite long. at 111 you really have something to say for your numbers!! high-five

Jim, I am really grateful that nothing hurts me at the moment. So yeah, whatever it takes to keep it that way.

kmc and Joe a/k/a defenders of hot yoga: no way I’m doing hot yoga. Yoga is just so not ma thang. Notwithstanding the “almost no clothing” situation.

T – the date for the photo shoot isn’t set yet, but I’m hoping to git er done this month. And yes, I understand that pictures are expected here, and I promise to find something that I can post on the internet without regret.

high-five right back atcha.

Today’s training…um, nothing. Another rest day. I thought about doing an extra workout now that I’m feeling well again (I usually rest Monday and Tuesday and train Wed./Fri./Sun.) but decided against it. I don’t need to lose any fat or gain any muscle, my strength is coming along fine and I couldn’t think of a reason to forego the recovery day.

Time to foam roll and stretch a bit. Tomorrow, its game on!

Oh yes, pictures are most definitely expected here.

“my strength is coming along fine and I couldn’t think of a reason to forego the recovery day.”

Your PRs are a testament to this fact - if its working for you, then what more can you ask.

Oh I’m not saying people should do hot yoga, because the hippies drove me nuts and lectured me when I wore my Marine Corp t-shirt to the classes.

I will say the heat was great for the joints and relaxing though, which is why i want a hot tub. Hot tub and tequila is a fantastic recovery tool.

im so, so glad you’re as into the foam rolling/recovery “voodoo” as you are.

with all of the injury threads and limitations that most of us have from NOT doing it for so long, i love seeing that you’re paying attention to it early in your training life.

and the photo shoot outfit- delicious! do you plan on it being a 1 outfit deal? thought about settings?

Joe, that is hysterical that you wore the Corps t-shirt to hot yoga! I love that.

CBear, I actually started foam rolling BEFORE I ever picked up a weight because my PT made me do it to rehab my ITB from a cycling over-use injury. I just roll more parts of me now.

The photo shoot will be a multi-outfit deal, fancy-hotel boudoir setting, lingerie with some fitness model-y stuff thrown in. Just memorializing this body before age takes its inevitable toll. A belated b-day present from me, to me.

so wise and spicy.

oh damn i have to see this.

Today’s training was weak-sauce, but I’m going to attempt not to bitch about it.

5/3/1 Wave 2, Week 2 - Deadlift Day

Chinups (waiting for rack)
1 x 5, 1 x 3

Felt weak.

Sumo Deadlifts
From risers:
65# 1 x 10 warmup
85# 1 x 5 warmup
95# 1 x 5 warmup
From floor:
120# 1 x 3 working <–form sucked, should have pulled this from risers cause those 35s are small.
135# 1 x 3 working
150# 1 x 7 money set <–Rep PR +1

The bad: that was it. Time ran out, felt weak sauce. This training evening suddenly turned into “I’m not doing jack shit.”

The good: a rep PR. The last one wasn’t the prettiest, but it went up.

Jim’s warmup suggestion is helping alot, and I’m going into the working sets properly warmed up, but not too tired to give them my best. I have a vision of CBear taking out her shockey monkey when I hyper-extend my back, so I avoided doing this up until the money set. What is it about the heavy weight that makes me want to super-lock this shit out???

So, I spent alot of time taping every set. I need to be on myself like this because I still need to consciously work on butt out, knees out, squat the weight up. If my chest is up and my butt is out and the bar is in the right place, and I don’t set up too low, then in that perfect state I can FINALLY feel like I’m squatting the weight up with the correct muscles (inner thigh and butt).

Tonight I wore chucks for deadlifting instead of just socks. I didn’t notice any traction gain, but I’m going to try this again to continue testing this out.

Leaving tomorrow AM for two days of skiing, but I’m hoping to squeeze in my military press workout with my home oly bar before taking off.

A PR’s a PR.

Highly impressed with the skiing – I tried once, fell and couldn’t get up, and am never going to deliberately fall down a mountain again.

Glad I could help

There is nothing wrong with “I’m not doing jack shit” every so often

When I say spread the floor i mean push out so hard that you feet feel like they are going to come out of the sides of your shoes. That will really bring the hips … Most people don’t understand just how hard you to have to spread the floor or squeeze the bar (squat/ bench) until they see it or experience it in person.

have a great time skiing … I grew up near Banff Alberta and I lived in Aspen CO for six years I miss boarding sometimes

it is a good thing you didn’t feel like doing “jack shit” tonight you are going to need those legs for them hard turns

Jim

Oh don’t think of it as a squat think of it as and explosive hip movement and the bar just happens to be along for the ride

sorry, Im laughing at Alisa, deliberately falling down a mountain, hahaha!!

Have a safe ‘trip,’ Kim!
