The KimbaLog

Exactly what Cal said. I’ve heard a light workout isn’t so bad when you’re under the weather though - so good on you! Keep getting rest, you’ll be your sprightly self in no time.

Question: I think you said you tried NROLW. If so, can you remember, in the final stage, they ask for 4 sets of 15-20 reps - I’m assuming that means I’ll have to drop weight to at least 75% of what I can normally manage. Does that sound right to you? Or should I just feel it out?

Feel better mama!

Nice progress on the bench, Kimba. How’s your form? And was that 70 consecutive walking lunges? That’s nice!
My bench form is probably crap. As soon as I get my squat and dead form in order, I’ll work on bench form.

And yes – consecutive lunges. This is what it takes me to go once around the gym. No stopping!

You’re doing well considering you’re under the weather. I’d have just taken the day off. (That’s probably why I weigh 50% more than you do, though).
Thanks Cal. I wouldn’t have trained if I felt as bad as I did yesterday or the day before. I’m hardcore, but not stupidly so.

You might weigh more than me, but you are taller. Personally, I think you are a stunner.

Rest is my friend, indeed. Today’s training took an hour, only because there was lots of client-trainer chatting going on to let me have alot of rest between sets. Now its sitting down time. Perhaps going to see “Avatar” tonight.

Although I tried NROLW, I never stuck with the program to the final stage. I would surmise that you are right. If I need to crank out 15 reps, then the weight will have to come down to 75% of my max or so.

weird, I had the same kinda weird cold thingy last week…felt like I was going to get a cold, but it wasn’t full blown…just tired and blah…

glad you are feeling better!!

Heh. One end of my gym to the other is 18 lunges.

on each leg?

I’ll have to try that Friday! :stuck_out_tongue:

No, 70 total steps, so 35 each leg. It sure hurts, though!

with or without weight?

Holding two 20 lb. dumbbells. Usually I do this with the 25s, but I wasn’t feeling up to it yesterday!

I used to hate lunges! But now I sorta like them…
I love how they hit the ‘problem,’ areas like nothing else…

squats are good, but I dont really get sore from them, do you?

I know soreness isn’t a good indicator tho. Im rambling…kbye

Nothing gets me as sore in my butt and legs as walking lunges. Squats rarely get me sore, although I do really feel sumo deadlifts in my butt and inner thighs.

And I know that soreness is no indicator of effectiveness. Frankly, I probably wouldn’t do walking lunges at all if my trainer didn’t make me, but I do like they are good for me. Another plus to not having completely control of one’s workouts!

Hi, I’m back.

think maybe you feel a little safer with lunges and are willing to push yourself harder than with squats?

Good to see you back!

I think the answer is simple fear of looking weak in front of the entire gym. In order to do 70 steps of walking lunges, I have to pass every single cardio machine in the place.

But I am actively considering ways of pushing myself harder in the squat rack.

shockey monkey

I’ve done walking lunges on a treadmill before now (not holding dumbells though). I’d set it to 1kph and just kept going for 10-15 minutes. I might start doing that again - my ART lady said one legged stuff would be good for me. My main issue is that I’m mildly dyspraxic and have appalling proprioception so one legged stuff also makes me prone to losing my balance. Not ideal when I’m trying not to injure my joints.

Did you manage to see Avatar? I still haven’t seen it yet - I’ve been waiting for my damn boyfriend to get his arse down here but he’s about as reliable as a peri-menopausal woman’s period.

excellent simile

Only if you give it to me in person.

My balance sucks total ass. But walking lunges – perhaps due to the forward motion – don’t suck for me as bad as regular lunges, or god forbid – reverse lunges. Its one of the few one-legged exercises I can reliably do.

Saw Avatar last nite in an IMAX theater, 3D, with a 60 ft screen and speakers in each chair. It was GREAT, which for me is high praise for a movie. I rarely see them. Definitely seek out a 3D showing – well worth it.

Quit waiting for him and go.

Agreed, and I happen to know something about that.

Squats destroy my quads, so I envy those who don’t feel them.

I finally started feeling better today. YAY! But had to leave the gym quick-like for a dinner reservation.

5/3/1 Wave 2, Week 1 – Deadlift and MP Day

Sumo Deadlift
From 2 steps on each side of the bar (someone stole my second riser from the weight room and I didn’t have time to steal another one from the aerobics room)
65# 1 x 5 warmup
75# 1 x 5 warmup
95# 1 x 5 warmup
110# 1 x 5 working
From 1 riser each side:
125# 1 x 5 working
From floor:
145# 1 x 10 ← money set, rep PR +2

I am feeling more comfortable with my setup and with trying to keep an arched back/at least straight back. I think I could do a better job of pulling back, and I probably am still hyperextending my back some.

Military Press
45# 1 x 5 working set
45# 1 x 5 working set
55# 1 x 3 money set

I was disappointed in my “money set”, not even making 5 reps. :frowning:

Alternating DB Shoulder Press
20s 4 x 5, 1 x 3 reps

Couldn’t quite make 5 x 5 before running out of steam. My left side is significantly weaker than my right side.

Back raises
20# dumbbell behind head 1 x 15 reps

I could have done this for sets, but ran out of gym time.

Dinner was a delicious margarita on the rocks (no salt), guacamole, chilli rellenos, and a few tastes of the following three desserts: flan, fried burrito cheesecake and chocolate bread pudding. All delicious. It is now couch-time.

Looks like a great day!

back/arch looks gooooooood!!!

still hyperextending and still not pulling back enough. but shit, 1 outta 3 aint bad!
