What? No whip? I was rather looking forward to that…

How is it that I was previously unaware of the awesomeness of Foamy? I must lead a very sheltered life.

Oh how I feel your pain. I lift at a University gym with an extraordinarily high level of brotard. Squat rack curls, tee shirt lifters checking out their abs, kissing EACH OTHERS biceps, “its all you” bench deadlifts, and routines consisting of nothing buy arm and chest work.

I have found that being cruel to them often opens up equipment.
Oh, Joe. /holds head and winces in pain/ That sounds truly dreadful.

My gym is a suburban YMCA which attracts mainly an older, cardio-and-Nautilus-circuit crowd. Usually I only see hordes of young men in the weight room during college holiday breaks when they come home to their families. Although I knew that the local high school teams did strength training there, my training is usually not when they are around. Thus the unwelcome surprise when I had to change my normal lifting schedule.

Usually Fridays nites and Sunday mornings are quiet times, when I am often spoiled by being almost alone in the weight room.

I still love that Joe gave us the gift of Brotard.

I go to a YMCA- and another gym that is a little better, but is still ghetto.
But not even in a hardcore way- ghetto in a poorly maintained way… the brotard force is strong in this gym.

is this what your training has become- a PR in reps and then 3 pages of excellent nonsequiter?

nice work

Ah, see, this is why I train at 7am on weekdays - a few hardy souls around, but no brotards, as you call them.
I tend to train later on weekends (10 or 11am) and run into a few morons then, hence my patience wearing thin pretty quickly. I could get up earlier, I suppose but, well, weekends are supposed to be relaxed.

Oh girl, I completely hear you on this. In fact, I get all pissy if I don’t get MY squat rack. As if I own it. Yeesh. I’m trying to work on this, so come the day when all I have is 2 water jugs and a cow prong I’ll be able to get a decent work out.

Why, this is the nicest thing I’ve heard today. I’m getting verklempt.

I am completely non-functional at 7 AM. Otherwise, that would be a stellar plan to avoid untoward crowding at my gym.

Really, I’m glad its not just me. I know most folks wear headphones while lifting to tune out distractions. But music playing in my ears also distracts me completely from the lifting work at hand. argghhh!

Back to my normal lifting routine (Wed AM, Friday PM, Sunday AM) and thank goodness for that. Going away for weekends is fun and all, but it sure messes up the schedule.

Off the 5/3/1 Reservation Day

Back squats to 3 risers plus step
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
75# 1 x 10
105# 1 x 10
115# 1 x 10
120# 1 x 2 <—failed on 3, needed the spotter to give me a bit of an assist to get up.
75# 1 x 20 ← Rep PR +10
Had I skipped straight to 120#, I could have gotten more. My PR at that weight is 5. Still working through knee cave issues at 105/115/120, but my upper body felt good and tight.

Bench Press
85# 1 x 0 <–fail. I’d done 1 rep at this weight last week, but I think I burned my CNS out on squats.
65# 3 x 10

Walking lunges with 25s (dumbbells), all the way around the gym which is 71 big steps. I counted. Today I did not drop the 25s three-quarters of the way around due to grip failure as I did last week, so I was happy with that.

Dips (full ROM at dip station)
BW 1 x 25

Lots of ab work

Cable Hip Adduction/Abductions
12.5 kg 3 x 10 each leg

A workman-like training. Not exciting, but good bread-and-butter.

HI!!

Hi right back! I really appreciate the encouragement.

I embrace the heretic lifestyle. Yeah, I can’t do anything the way everyone else does.

Thank goodness for rep PRs. They keep me motivated when weight PRs aren’t forthcoming.

take you and your multisyllabic words outta here, missy!

(ok not really, im just still bitter from the stupid pple @ my work. dont mind me, i’ll be over here, in my corner, with mah helmet…)

no but seriously im glad you got back into your normal routine. I know it feels good!
CBear84 wrote:

For better or for worse, I write exactly how I think. Since I know lots and lots of words, I feel compelled to make use of them all. Getting my money’s worth out of them, so to speak.

No-one puts CBear in a corner.

How sad for them, those that are stupid. They’ll never know what they’re missing.

I don’t really think of myself as a creature of habit. But there seems to be ample proof of it.
kimbakimba wrote:

I beg to differ. Even Molly, who is as used to me as a non-family member can be, (she’s also incredibly patient and sweet) feels the need to put me in timeout on occasion. Mostly because I’m at level 10 CBear and that’s not suitable for public… Come to think of it, G is the only one who’s never put me in time out. But, he enjoys the chaos, and sitting back to watch it.

You may not actually be a creature of habit in your normal life, but bc you’re still relatively new to lifting, it makes sense that you prefer consistency and routine… you’re lifting heavy and need to feel safe doing it.

I eagerly await the day a kimba story comes along saying something like, “I told that ignorant piece of shit to get the hell out of my rack or I’d shove those dumbells up his ass”

All entertainment possibilities are open here. Even that one.

Pentasyllabic writing is only good parsed with ample use of fuck.

nice work Im off the 531 as well it works but it was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
boring.

No truer words have been spoken - I’d be lost without my little program. In fact, I’d be walking around like a chicken with my head cut off if you just threw me into the weight room and said go at it. I need definite goals/rules at each workout.

Haha! right on.

Workouts are looking good kimba! Keep up the good work.

And fuck is such a versatile word, so easily inserted in almost every sentencial position.

I’m actually all for boring at the moment. Still learning these lifts – that is excitement enough.

Thanks Masherano! I feel exactly the same way – I do much better in the weight room with a definite plan in mind.

we need a new kimba pic to get us through this long weekend.

I am very flattered, m’dear.

As a 45th birthday present to myself I am arranging a photo shoot to memorialize my current ripped status. Quick, before any age-related deterioration sets in! It will be soon, and I do hope there will be something I’d feel able to post up on the internetz.
