I happened across a video of you rowing your heart out in Meats, advice thread.
uhm once I regained my composure - I was impressed, Nice work!!
then ur going to be mighty happy to see the nekid chinup video that’s coming next.

I like your rows. I like rowing in general – always makes me feel triumphant.

Thanks Alisa. I’ve grown to like rowing too after initially being quite cool to it. One of the things I was happiest about rowing the 40# is that my grip was strong enough to hold it.

Bench Press
70# 1 x 10 <–Rep PR +2, 1 x 7, 1 x 5 (failed on 8 and 6 respectively)
Finally got 10 reps at 70#. This made me happy.
Back squat to 4 risers plus a step
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
65# 1 x 10
80# 1 x 10
90# 1 x 10 – some knee cave during the last few reps
100# 1 x 5 ← Rep PR +3 – some knee cave. The first couple reps were nice.
65# 1 x 20 – all looked good
There is some progress here. Upper body form was good and there wasn’t forward lean. Meat’s cue of forcing my elbows forward during the lift really helps me with upper body stability. Still need to work on knee cave, though.
Lunges with 18# body bar
30 each leg
Seated Overhead Press
Bar 1 x 10, 1 x 5
Bench and overhead press do not mix for me. Today I did OK on bench because it was first. Last week I did OK on overhead press because it was first. Useful information.
Dips
BW 1 x 21 <–Rep PR +1
no rest, then a burnout set of triceps pressdowns with the V-bar.
This PR made me SO HAPPY. I struggled mightily for that last one because today I WAS NOT GOING TO BE DENIED! I still want 40 dips as a long-term goal, but that is gonna take some doing.
Lots of Ab work
Then I went home and, just like Bobbi told Talennah, I ate. Guacamole and corn chips, peanut butter and banana sandwich (sequentially, not together).
awesome on the dips!..i think i can barely do one…good to make note of the fatigue setting in from one exercise before the other. i try to remember those things as well.
and food…i have already stated how much i love tortilla chips…and guacamole…MMMMMM! i always, always grub down after workout! what if you had mixed the PB, naners and guac and spread them on the bread…then layered the chips…?
you guys can call me t if you like…it’s easier and you are my internet friends after all…
oh yeah, i wish i had a bike…i loved riding. i’m jealous of your rides…maybe not the whole 2 hour bit…but just to go for a ride would be nice…

Where you live, you should definitely have a bicycle. Good weather, scenic vineyards…I love riding there.

i’ll give them cyclists riding in wine country some props…too many inebriated drivers abound. we talked about getting bikes. i’m thinking we will this spring.
i lived in davis, it was like the bike capital of the world…stop lights with bikes in the lights(to differentiate from normal intersection lights), there own lanes, tunnels to bypass traffic, it was sweet riding in that town.
CBear, the mere thought of oreos and ranch makes me throw up a little in my mouth. Thanks for that.
talenaah, those of us who ride accept the risk that drivers actively want to kill us or don’t really care if they do or don’t. There are some beautiful routes near you that are fairly safe on a bicycle.
Joe, thanks. PB and banana with a little honey is my favorite snack during a long, long ride. On a century, a couple of those at mile 50 or so gets me through to the end.
So, I think I’ve mentioned here that no-one really ever talks to me at the gym. Everyone goes about their business with barely a glance at the other folks in the weight room.
Imagine my surprise when, after warming up my deadlift up to 135 or so, when I was going to grab another plate some dude says “hey, you are training hard over there”. In a tone of voice that indicated he was being straight serious, not condescending or coming-on. When I mentioned this to my husband later, he said he wasn’t surprised at this comment because the first time he saw me lift the bar with the 45# plates he did a double-take as well.
Apparently the average guy thinks that someone my size has no chance of lifting a bar with 45s on it. I think this is very, very funny.
AlisaV wrote:
I also think that’s funny … but a lot of people your size can’t do it.
True, although more to the point, most small women don’t even try.
Maybe six hours, with rest stops. Actually, I feel the best from mile 60-80. Prior to actually challenging myself to do this, I never knew that I had good endurance capability. You never know until you try!
After mile 80, its pretty much a slog to the end. Once I was riding a tandem bicycle with my husband and he had planned his nutrition and hydration very poorly. So poorly that on this very hot day, his legs cramped up so bad at mile 85 or so that he couldn’t pedal anymore. Guess who pedaled both of us in. And yes, this incident does still come up in conversation, as appropriate.
