The KimbaLog

Today’s training was an early afternoon session instead of my normal Friday night. I definitely didn’t feel as tired as if I had waited until the evening. Sadly, though, I rarely can do do daytime trainings on Fridays…

Back Squat
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
65# 1 x 10 all fine
75# 1 x 10 all fine
85# 1 x 10 decent, not perfect
90# and 95# 1 x 10 each, but my trainer-guy was right behind me on both sets and I know he assisted some with some/most of the reps – don’t know exactly. So, I won’t count it. Still good practice though.

Incline Dumbbell Press
25# 1 x 25
20# 1 x 15
17.5# 1 x 11
drop sets, no rest, failed on the final set and dropped the weights – guess my spotter wasn’t paying super-good attention.

Lunges
30 reps each leg, holding two 10# plates

Neutral grip pull-ups
1 x 10 (partner assist)

Triceps Cable Pushdowns (V bar)
70# 1 x 15
60# 1 x 15
50# 1 x 15
drop sets, no rest

HS low cable row (2 arms)
55kg plus 10# in plates 1 x 20

Lots of ab work with 10# medicine ball (sit ups where partner gives you the ball and you touch it to the floor over your head then give it back, russian twists, crunches with feet up ball on feet)

Cable hip adductions/abductions
7.5kg plus 5# plate 3 x 12 reps, each leg for 2 exercises

Already looking forward to Sunday AM – deadlift day!

Now its time for dinner. Only weighed 112# after the gym and I need to eat up a pound, at least.

boooooo on spotters that spot too much, and on the ones that dont spot at all! slap that silly prat!

looks like you had a great workout, though!

I can definitely say “horrible” like that… if it’s something i practiced, my accent isnt too muddled. have a friend who grew up in england. sorry cal, cant remember where.

you can imagine the look on my boss’s face the first time i defined “nemesis” for him! ha!

Heh heh. Well I’m from South London - I grew up not far from where Jason Statham comes from (no I don’t know him) so my accent’s similar to that. My parents were working class, but both worked in the theatre so liked me to talk nicely. I ended up cultivating one accent for home, and another for my nice comprehensive in Deptford (the arsehold of London) where I’d get picked on mercilessly if I dared to speak with proper diction. Now it’s somewhere between the two, although the South London really comes out when I’m annoyed.

Kimba - nice workout - but yeah, spotters who spot too much are a fucking annoyance. Still, if you can do 10 reps with a spot, chances are you can do at least 5 on your own.

especially when they are the same person. don’t worry, he got his. luckily for him, his ass is saved from the sling by being both cute and entertaining.

So…plate slides? What kind did you mean??

Too bad posts don’t come through with audio.

I can confidently say I have no accent of any kind. Growing up in California will do that.

Hey Kimba,

Caught up on your log a bit. I can’t believe you are 44!!! You look so young…amazing. It must be your spirit because you are one determined and motivated lady. Makes me want to push myself even more:)

Seriously. Thank god someone said it. Actually, thank god you said it cbear. You chicks are soooooo much cooler.

I’ve been told I really don’t either, unless I’ve been drinking and I’m pissed off…(rare moments… haha), then some mix of southern hilbilly/east coast comes out. mom is from jersey/new york and dad is from a small town near cleveland, so I grew up with a mix.

I can be counted on 100% of the time to say the most inappropriate thing everyone (or someone) in the room is thinking. I’ve been told it’s not my best quality, but I’ll agree with that. All my best qualities are between my knees and my navel.

we’re not just cooler. we have phenomenal pedestals, and we’re strong enough to carry them around with us, and set them up wherever we are. It’s not lonely up here, we’re in great company.

Hey, thanks Shauna!

The goal is to kick ass or die trying. 24, 44, 84 – same difference. Age is more in one’s head than anywhere else.

CBear pissed off AND drinking? oh oh oh…what could go wrong there???

Good imagery, CBear.

Shauna sure knows how to make friends 'round here.

I’m no longer allowed to drink outside a residence unless i have someone willing and able to post bail.

same suggestion from a brother, a boyfriend, and a police officer friend.

(five-oh suggestion based on nights he’s not on duty.)

Yesterday’s training: 2 hr 33 min bicycle ride. My ass was a bit sore from Friday’s training, and a couple hours on the bike seat did not help that situation.

Sunday morning is deadlift day! My favorite!

Sumo Deadlift
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
95# 1 x 10 warmup
105# 1 x 5 work set
All of the above from 1 step.

120# 1 x 5 work set
135# 1 x 8 <–rep PR +3
All of the above from floor

75# 10 x 10 reps, touch n’ go – off one step

So, here is what I’ve decided to do. For the next month I’m loading per 5/3/1. But per Meat’s suggestion, I’m working EVERYTHING for speed off the floor. The speed goal dovetails nicely with the lower weight.

Today was a good form day (not perfect, my hips still come up too fast on most reps). With the lower weight I was able to continue to work chest up, butt out, keeping a good arch. I really felt for the first time that if I concentrate on sticking my butt out, that I use more glutes and hips and I squat the weight up better.

I mis-remembered BBB as 10 sets of 10 instead of 5 sets of 10. Oh well. Worked on ripping the bar off the floor fast, fast, fast. Was happy with this, felt easy. Have bruises on my shins and knees now. And mah ass is even sorer than when I got to the gym.

Seated Overhead Press
Bar 2 x 10, 1 x 7 (failed on 8) no improvement from last week

Bent Over One Armed Dumbbell Rows
37.5# 3 x 8 <–PR +2.5# I’m happy with this. My rows are slowly but steadily improving. In fact, this is the first time I’ve ever used a 37.5# dumbbell for ANYTHING. Nice!

Hopefully I will recover some legs in time for this afternoon’s bicycle ride…

Good work on the PRs!
I love hitting PRs and acting like it was nothing, yet I’m dancing a jig inside hoping everyone saw it.

Nice work. Combining 5-3-1 with German Volume Training is pretty stout. :).

very nice training!

Whoa, I didn’t know you were 44!
That’s reassuring (and inspiring) to know that people can keep getting better.

Skye – I have spent more time than I care to confess watching that little dude dance. Thanks!

jjack – that foray into GVT was entirely accidental! Next time I’m doing five sets of 10 with a harder weight!

Arachne – thanks!

Alisa – Indeed, age is not an excuse for not working it. Whatever your age, you can always improve!

I got plenty more where that came from. Laughter is part of my prehab/mobility work.

late to the party here - congrats on the nice PR!

skye how DID you get that gif of my ex?
