Congrats for taking the plunge. Now let give you my condolences for the likely pain, haha. Just kidding, sort of. ;-)[/quote]

I love training myself into the ground, I can’t wait to see what he has in store.

It’s a different kind of training for sure - vastly different from the way I used to train. My lifts had gone to shit when I started with him, but I’ve made some pretty damn good gains over the past 24 weeks. You’re not going to regret your decision.

Dude, take Friday off. You aren’t training for anything right now, don’t fuck yourself up. You know I know all about low back injuries, so I don’t keep pushing it until you create a real issue.

I know you know, I am convinced you are the reason I got hurt. Your friend Chris spotted me on bench on Tuesday and we talked about you and your back injuries. So just this morning before training I was thinking about how I have been lucky to have not tweaked my back for a while and then this happens. You jinxed me, you fucking jinxed me.

But yeah it is getting worse as the day progresses, getting around the house is a chore right now. We will see what happens, I am not an idiot and I won’t do anything I don’t feel comfortable with.

5s Wave- Week 3

August 28th- Shoulders

Today was my first day back in the gym since Wednesday. Thursday my back hurt, Friday I couldn’t fucking move all day, Saturday it hurt, today it feels good enough to do some stuff that doesn’t directly hit my lower back. Hopefully by Wednesday I will be able to deadlift again.

Dude, bump your log more frequently, I see it bimonthly. That’s pretty funny that it happened like that. Glad to know you and Chris are getting along. Mike Chase texted me about you but didn’t really say anything of substance.

We should Facebook chat too and round out the communication trifecta.

August 29th- Biceps and Calves

The gym was so damn busy today with rando people that I just wanted to get in and out.

DB Curls
1x10 30s
1x10 40s
1x10 50s
1x10 60s

DB Hammer Curls
5x10 40s

Barbell Curls 3-Sec Negative
3x8 100 -these felt really weird because I had to use one of the fixed barbells where the weights don’t rotate, they were really weird at the top.

Seated Calf Raises
1x12 70
1x12 80
1x12 90
1x12 100

Alternated with

Standing One Leg Calf Raises
2x20 BW
2x15 BW

August 30th- Bench and Triceps

Today was incredible, I wanted to dance out of the gym after all was said and done. Set my mind on a number for my last set on bench and hit it, really big day.

Close Grip Bench
1x5 160
1x3 190
1x2 220
1x1 235
add belt
1x1 250
1x8 270 PR +3 Reps -I think I have hit 270x5 before if I remember right, either way I haven’t done this before and my bench is the strongest it has ever been. I hit all of the reps clean and grinded out the last rep to lock out.

Lying BB Extensions
1x10 55
1x10 75
1x10 95
1x10 115

Rope Pushdowns
3x15 50

August 31st- Deadlift and Back

Not a great day, but a really good day when you take into account that I couldn’t even walk right due to lower back pain just four or five days ago. If my only goal was getting a good back workout then this session was a success.

Deadlift
1x5 235
add belt
1x3 285
1x2 330
1x1 355
1x1 375
1x4 400 -This was supposed to be at least five, but I was too worried about my back to pull the bar off of the floor with any kind of speed so I was spent at four. Had I have been fresh I would have been able to hit a lot more, but it is what it is. I don’t think I have ever pulled more than 2 reps above 400 so this is some type of PR. Next wave I will just leave the working max the same and hope for better results.

Kayak Rows
2x20 50

Seated Cable Row
1x10 120
1x10 140
1x10 160
1x10 180
1x10 200
1x10 220

Close Neutral Pullups
5x8 BW

Wide Neutral Pullups
5x5 BW

Glad to hear you had no serious issues with your back. Don’t stop being cautious just yet though!

Thanks, I will be cautious squatting on Saturday and then the week after that is a deload so by next wave I should be back to hitting it 100%.

September 2nd- Chest

Continuing my journey to be the T-Nation member with the most unread posts of all time.

DB Bench
1x8 65s

1x10 60s
1x10 70s
1x10 80s
1x5 90s

Dips
2x20 BW
1x15 BW

I am getting really bored with my current training set up, I can’t wait to start training with Josh Bryant.

I am seriously excited to see what he’s going to cook up for you. I honestly think that if you train with him for two twelve week cycles you’ll be pushing 5/4/6. I have the much confidence in him (not so much in you though. lol jk <3). I really want to see the Nine Day Work Week thing him and Chad Smith are doing together as well.

I agree with you, those are my goals for next summer, hopefully there will be a meet at a convenient time and place that we can both get in on.

If all goes well with this upcoming training cycle, which I have a lot of faith it will, then I will either hire him for another 12 weeks immediately following, or possibly wait and have him do 12 weeks for me leading up to a meet. You are a fucking mind reader knowing I was planning on probably doing more than one.

Edit: Oh yeah and thanks for your confidence in me.

One more thing, if you haven’t seen this, the 9 day work week is going to have something to do with this-

Ehhhhh, hate to say this but at this point I don’t see myself competing with you this summer. I’m planning on taking at least a year and doing bodybuilding-focused work. I’ll still be trying to bring up my numbers on bench, deadlift and front squat though so I guess the plan can always change. If I can start back squatting again I might switch gears back to powerlifting. Sweet inconclusive post, Sid!

Yeah, the reason Josh Bryant seems to be so good is that he keeps his guys injury-free and lets them reap the rewards of his training. If you can sustain your gains from two cycles with him you’ll be in great shape. Another guy I think would be great for you is Brian Carroll. He’s been doing offseason (raw) squat cycles for people and has been getting great results. Offseason gains are usually sustainable so it sounds awesome.

Oh, I remember this post. Strong search skills brah. Lifting so infrequently seems like it would bore the hell out of me but if it gets you stronger than I would do it without a doubt. Chad reminds me of me, getting big carryovers in meets.

You are a dick, it is alright I have a way cooler friend that wants to compete with me next summer, he also is strong as fuck and can squat 6+, so take that! But yeah that is cool, getting swoler is always fun and is a good change of pace to keep you interested and progressing. Just don’t give your abs a nickname and we’ll be good.

For a while my training setup has been kind of “powerbuilding” oriented so I will be interested to see what kind of gains I can get out of doing something more devoted to just increasing my powerlifts.

Literally all I did was go to his training log and find the beginning of his training cycle, I am very familiar with his log though because he is basically my fucking idol at this point.

Right now I couldn’t do that type of training setup anyway due to the fact the only way I would be able to train Thursdays is if I got up at 6 AM, fuck that.

Is the friend Lokey or is there an even bigger freak at UNO I’ve never heard about? Too late on nicknames for my abs. jk not serious.

Wendler always says, powerbuilding = powerbottom. I think that’s stupid because Efferding is basically a powerbuilder but whatever. It will definitely be interesting to see how you do on a straight powerlifting type deal.

You won’t wake up at 6 AM to train?! YOU DON’T WANT IT BAD ENOUGH. You also don’t want it bad enough if you won’t squat everyday, if you won’t get unnecessarily fat, or if you don’t lift in multiply gear. I guess we all have our crosses to bear.

Chad Smith : Cody as Stan Efferding : Sid. Both of them are some freaking badasses and match our bodytypes. lol.
