That video is about incarceration for petty drug crimes, addiction and mental illness.
WTF does that have to do with,
So many problems with this video. First, we get these anecdotes about somebody getting a life sentence for stealing a pair of pants or some such thing. While there are cases like that, they are not even remotely representative of our incarcerated population, most of whom are in prison for pretty good reasons (murder, sex offenses, other violent offenses, high-level cocaine or heroin trafficking, etc.). We also get this curious argument that because prison populations kept increasing even though crime was falling, that just shows how wrong-headed incarceration is. As many have pointed out, that’s like arguing “I eat pizza and ice cream every day and I’ve stopped going to the gym, but I’m getting fatter.” The cause of falling crime rates in the 90s and early aughts is a matter of some controversy, but a good candidate is the fact that we started locking up a lot more violent offenders.
I’m too lazy to explain, but I’m trying to bring up the point of systemic racism. I only posted that video because it mentions white flight.
-Slavery End
- Great Migration 1910-1970 (which was awesome cause we got cool things like the harlem renaissance)
“ The Great Migration, a long-term movement of African Americans from the South to the urban North, transformed Chicago and other northern cities between 1916 and 1970 . Chicago attracted slightly more than 500,000 of the approximately 7 million African Americans who left the South during these decades”
2013 Chicago Crime Rates I believe: 90.1% of victims were male. 75.3% of victims and 70.5% of offenders were African American, 18.9% were Hispanic (20.3% of offenders), and whites were 5.6% of victims (3.5% of offenders) . Murder rates in Chicago vary greatly depending on the neighborhood in question.

Article on growth of suburbia post WW2
Suburban Growth [ushistory.org].
“ Between 1950 and 1960 Chicago’s population shrank for the first time in its history, as factory jobs leveled off and people moved to the suburbs. Poor neighborhoods were razed and replaced with massive public housing that solved few of the problems of poverty and violence.”

No Jobs in cities/areas with a lot of black people which means poverty

Violence and gang culture erupts
“Chicago’s largely African American gang problem exploded in the 1960s, with more gangs and more
violence.”
Makes sense to me, I mean how did all those black people end up in those “ghettos” in the first place. I used the example of chicago just cause. I’m sure there are other examples out there as well.
That which you mentioned, and:
Nobody commits crimes toget their psych meds or see a therapist. They commit crimes to feed their addictions.
As trendy as it is to say “Well, they are an addict and self medicating” they still committed a crime or crimes.
Motive may change the sentencing recommendations but they’re still (or should be) responsible for what they did.
Ive seen way too many people start going to rehab & meetings after the fact only to cry “This is bullshit! I shouldn’t have to go to jail too!” like getting their notebook signed a few times give them a do over or some shit.
Exactly. The reverse is much more common.
Of those I’ve spoken to who are lax on punishment, they speak as if prisons are overflowing with non-violent offenders, as if there are millions rotting away for smoking pot or “victimless” crimes.
You supplanted “black” for “poor”. It’s okay, Biden made the same mistake so I forgive you.
You still can’t actually explain why white people are at fault for black Americans cultural acceptance of violence and crime, which is interesting considering that is your firmly held belief.
Why are Nigerian immigrants the seeing the largest generational increase in education, if the color of their skin is holding them back?
Well you clearly did not read my post so I am going to disengage from any frivolous online argument.
You’re also making a lot of assumptions on my beliefs.
I don’t disagree that there’s a culture problem. Even the black church/old heads recognize this a lot, lol.
It’s more productive to troll.
I guess they never heard of Al Capone.
The question is, why aren’t more trying to get out. People abandon their homelands, some of which make Chicago look like Beverly Hills, to take advantage of the opportunities in America.
The problem is that the woke and the activists want to look back at history to find their culprits and villains. They are too ignorant and/or afraid to look at the immediate causes of the violence and other dysfunctional behaviors in the inner cities. One of the immediate causes they want to avoid confronting is single mothers being, in general, a scourge on this nation.
This is also a cause of a lot of the problems. It turns people into sheep who get impressed by performance over substance.
Why would I? All you do is troll, despite some folks genuinely wanting to help you see the world for what it is.
Would you rather church or shooting people?
How to avoid assault or death on subways: Just be rich bro! ![]()
It depends on who’s getting shot.
How this guy managed to create a following still baffles me. He talks like a gay man on the spectrum and offers the world nothing.
In a world desperately trying to feminize men (and succeeding), he happened to be the most inflammatory - and therefore famous - voice calling for masculinity to return.
He certainly wasn’t the first and won’t be the last, but he was the most inflammatory. Sometimes that’s what matters most RE popularity.
He seems to counter degeneracy with his own version of degeneracy. Perhaps not offering morality, which requires discipline, but rather, offering a villain and narrative is what the kids want these days.
This statement goes to the heart of the issue. The evidence linking crime and poverty is spurious. And it’s not at all clear why poverty should lead to the types of crimes that plague our cities. Why must poverty lead to astronomical murder rates? Same with segregation. As John McWhorter (one of the most incisive social commentators around, who also happens to be black) has stated, “I myself have always been dismayed at the idea that when poor black people live together, we must expect social mayhem.”
