The Israel / Hamas Conflict

What exactly did the Visigoths in Spain do to Muslims in Syria?

Feel free to add your own.

And there you go.

I would prefer the rule of law

Conspiratorial bullshit constantly spouted does not an analysis make.

From the wiki on the 2006 conflict
Following the UN-brokered ceasefire, there were mixed responses on who had gained or lost the most in the war. Iran and Syria proclaimed a victory for Hezbollah[318] while Olmert declared that the war was a success for Israel.[319]

Doesn’t seem like anyone came out ahead and who “won” is who you choose to believe. As always, civilians lost the most in the conflict and of course Hezzbollah didn’t disarm according to the UN resolution but no surprises there’s.

I will try answering your request, but first I need to understand:

  • Muhammad (saw). What does “(saw)” mean?
  • Jesus (as). What does “(as)” mean?

Saw is an acronym for the Arabic phrase, salaa allah ealayh wasalam (peace be upon him). Usually, when writing in English people will write PBUH.

Muslims will also use PBUH for Jesus (Isa).

I will give you my interpretation of the passage you mention. From the KJV it comes from Matthew chapter 7:1-2

  1. Judge not, that ye be not judged.
  2. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

I see this as a pragmatic expectation when a person is judging others. We see that it is more of a pragmatic earthy expectation than an escape from judgment.

Note Hebrews 9:27, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

So it is clear that not judging others will not save you from judgment from God. (Actually judgment from the word of God, but that is a deeper conversation.)

Now look at the verse preceding Matthew chapter 7:
Matt 6:34, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” This is a pragmatic fact of living in this world.

So, as I see Matt 7:1-2, no one should be surprised that if they judge another, that they get judged by the other, or anyone who knows you judged another. It is sort of the old saying, “What goes around, comes around.”

Free Palestine! :palestinian_territories:

The problem isn’t the cost, it’s that nobody wants it.

I would free them from their mortal coil.

I really want to see @squating_bear explanation. I am looking for why the difference, between (was) and (as) and how he would describe the distinction.

sigh

Muhammad (saw)
The Muslims at the time of Muhammad (saw).

There is no gray in this matter. I agree.

See above, the beginning of this post

In a sense

It seemed time to type out those words finally - I have been painfully holding them inside of myself for years

I have had both a hope and a fear that this thread could present my opportunity

I hear you
How dare I

And yet how dare I to have held onto it for a single second once it had become clear to me in my mind?

The exact words that I had put in that post back then were meant for the God fearing. A part of me does hope to put something similar to humanity in general eventually - I don’t consider myself to be ready yet, on the other or same hand (can’t quite tell), I don’t consider them to be ready yet either…

Somewhere along the way one time during some deep self reflection I found something within me that was so … “charged”, I lost control for a bit

My body did whisper out loud as loud as it could whisper

I’m so petty
I’m so petty
I’m so petty

And I realized that that had been quite a thing for me to have thought - that I was so great that my pettiness could have ever been of great benefit to anyone

It shed a whole new light on BismillahirRahmanirRahim, which I had been taught to have been saying my whole life

“Good luck tho I don’t believe in luck”

Peace and I do believe in peace

Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullah

This is great for you, and I am genuinely happy that you have found a path that makes you feel fulfilled. I have no animosity towards you.

This doesn’t assuage my point.

I would like peace also.

Again, I am glad that you found this path and meaning in it for you. And I don’t think you personally would take present the “convert or die” ultimatum to anyone.

Others will tread a different path and that is fine too. You may not see that as the correct path, and I am okay with preaching to those who may be seeking a different path as long as others are not harmed in the process.
That last part is the crux of the issue right now. Both sides are committing harms (justified or not is debatable). Not just in this conflict making world news but in many other countries/areas, people continue to do harm to others in the name of religion.

This talk about Jesus and Muhammad made me realize the anti Muhammad bias that is rampant in Hollywood. I’ve seen Jesus played by Willem Dafoe, Jim Caviezel, or the ‘‘hot Jesus’’ guy, among others.
Yet, I’ve never seen a biopic or History Channel mini-series about Muhammad.

Now why is that?

I’d like to see an epic movie or series about the life and death of Muhammad.
Idris Elba would be perfect for the role. Mads Mikkelsen too. Maybe Ken Jeong if cachet is an issue.

But noooo.

You know why you won’t see a movie about Muhammad? Look who’s running Hollywood.
That’s why.

I would find that fascinating too.
My guess is that kind of a film would not be well received by US audiences (generally the largest consumer of cinema - country wise).

But isn’t it also because Mohammad is not supposed to be depicted? I don’t know the rules there but I recall something like that being a thing. Please correct if I am wrong.

I would even settle for some animated movie, wouldn’t even need to be a live action film. What is Disney waiting for? Elliot Page could voice Muhammad. Maybe R Kelly could handle the soundtrack.
