It began a facetious tongue-in-cheek joke that Putin used to mock the Muller investigation. “It wasn’t us, it was the Ukrainians”, said with a wry smile.
Seeing that the Cult of Trump believed literally everything Russian propaganda would say, they took their mocking joke, added some semi-plausible details and started preparing documents for Solomon, Hannity and co.
This relates to the second thing I want to communicate. Based on questions and statements I have heard, some of you on this committee appear to believe that Russia and its security services did not conduct a campaign against our country—and that perhaps, somehow, for some reason, Ukraine did. This is a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves.

Trump didn’t want an investigation, he wanted a public statement of CNN. Guilani and his made it clear to Yarmak and the rest of Zelenskyy’s team that they didn’t give a shit about investigations and only wanted public statements mentioning specific phrases like “Burisma”, “Biden” and “Clintons”.
So that it can be played endlessly on a loop on Fox and in conservative circles. Basically, a 2020 version of “lock her hup” , “Seth Rich” and “but her e-mails”
Even with this impeachment, Republicans will be chanting “Burisma” at Trump campaign rallies in the summer of 2020…

To act like that’s actually possible given the current breakdown of Congress is kinda silly imo.
You have to worry about beating a real republican. Beating a crippled Trump should theoretically be easier now that he has political dirt on his face. Especially considering he couldn’t pull anywhere near a majority last time.
Plus they need the optics of DEFEATING Trump’s entire platform at the polling station to really make it all stick.

The only thing I heard from Mr. Giuliani or otherwise was that they had to be announced. … President Trump presumably, communicated through Mr. Giuliani, wanted the Ukrainians on-record publicly that they were going to do those investigations.

Presumably. There’s a whole lot of that in this whole thing. Trump’s own words, though, are about actually doing the investigation rather than just announcing it.

Are you looking for a smoking gun? 100% positive, gotchya evidence? Putting aside whether it can be proved, if you had to bet one side or the other, which sides story is closer to what actually happened?
What level of proof do you think there should be here? Commensurate with a civil trial? A criminal trial?
Occam’s razor says the story in which you have to assume the least is more likely to be correct. In that case, Trump looks pretty guilty.
